Magic Rock had the temerity to build a great brewery and superb tap room less than ten minutes from my house serving awesome ale.

Now I read this and find they are into biking as well.

Is it possible to live there?

Dave at CycleFast built me a pair of excellent Hope wheels. Two years on and they are running as true as the day I picked them up.

I’m still riding my 853 lurid green Altitude 6 years on! I’m loathed to part with it as I love the frame. In the last year or two it’s had a new fork and some new hope wheels so there is life in the old dog yet……..

I live in the top end of Huddersfield and have a few good loops North of the M62 taking in Stainland, Norland, Scammonden etc…

The local challenges like the Pennine X and the Colne Valley Challenge are worth a go as they both have cracking routes and introduced me to areas I wasn’t familiar with.

I’d be up for a ride out at some point.

It’s a no for me, but I’m going to take a charity place with the good people from Beating Bowel Cancer.

I got a Medion Tablet before Christmas in Aldi. 32gb with a 32gb SD card included. Some stores still have them in.

A second vote for the Arkose 3. It’s a very versatile bike. I’ve used it for off road commuting, off road riding and its currently got slicks on and I’m using it as a road bike.

Another recommendation for Dave at Cyclefast. He built me some Hope Wheels and a year later another bike shop said they’d never seen wheels as true after a year of abuse. You’ll get a good price and he’s a decent bloke to boot.

Terrific series. It was a great finish last night.

I just bought a cheap one off Ebay to use with Trainer Road and haven’t had any issues so far after 12 months of use.

    I have one of these:

I can recommend it. Great value for the price.

I’m in, but none of my mates are.

I’m going to have to adopt some Valverde patented wheel sucking tactics.

I’ve used snow socks for a couple of years. They are impressive. The last time we had snowmaggeddon I managed to overtake a number of stranded cars on the big hill near my house.

They’ll get you out of trouble and are pretty easy to get on and off once you reach a clear road.

I bought an Arkose 3 with the same intentions. I stuck some slicks on for commuting. I have been more than happy with it. Its a really versatile bike that is happy off road or on.

I have been struggling post Christmas after suffering with a cold. I was into week five on the MTB low volume plan and I suddenly found week 6 very difficult. I’m thinking of dropping back a week to regain some form.

TrainerRoad recommend finishing the sessions if you can and if you are struggling, manually drop your FTP down a bit to make it possible to get through the sessions. You can always put it up again once you’ve regained some form and fitness.

I’ll second CycleFast as well. Dave built me some Hope wheels last January and they have been flawless. Another local bike shop took a look at them recently and said they were the truest wheels they’d ever seen.

I’m using Trainer Road and its been a revelation for me.

You use your FTP to determine the intensity of the work outs. You choose a training plan and go from there. I’m currently five weeks into the MTB XC plan doing 3-3.5 hours a week on the low volume plan. I’m already feeling the benefits.

There are plans for just about every aspect of cycling.

Thanks for all the advice. I’d better get to Go Outdoors this weekend.

Sonia had better be bloody good after all this….

I bought a Mazda 6 in 2005 and I’m still driving it 140,000 miles later. The front right bearing went and that’s about it. They have huge boots, ideal for filling with mountain biking gear. No complaints at all, when the time comes I’ll probably go for another 6.

I’ve got a 91 944 S2. It gets driven nearly every day. We will never get rid of it, it’s part of the family now.

My company bought a folding bike that it allows the staff to use for commuting purposes only. If anyone pops down to the sandwich shop on it, it would become a benefit in kind and would have to go on a P11D. That’s what my accountant advised. Our folding bike has only been used for commuting.

My battery life has plummeted on my N4 thanks to the Kit Kat update. Google Play Services seems to be the culprit. If you Google this issue there are a number of people in the same boat.

If you haven’t already I’d hold off the upgrade on the N4 until Google sort this out. My phone was flat my 2pm yesterday without any serious use and Google Play Services was responsible for about 65% of the battery use.

War of the Worlds, HG Wells
To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee.
    Hamlet, Will Shakey.
The Tiger that came to tea. The most surreal book I’ve ever read.

@wittonweavers, I bought Catch 22 when I was travelling and the bloke in the book shop said ‘Stick with it, the first 100 pages are hard work buts it worth it.’ That was good advice, its certainly worth persisting with.

Iain, I have. Every now and then my heel clips the adjuster and winds the pads closer to the disk. I wouldn’t say it’s a major problem.

I’ve got one. It’s a more than capable bike. I’ve used it for commuting and big days out in the Pennines. I’ve not encountered any problems in the eight months or so I have had it.

I bought some insoles from Boots for about £20. They seem to have done the trick.

I also kept a can of coke under my desk to roll my foot over. I did this mostly during the period when I could still feel pain.

Its a long job, it took me over 12 months to become pain free. I now wear the insoles in all of the footwear I have.

I love the Sportsman, was in there till late last night.

The Kings Head always serves an excellent pint, although it is like stepping into an episode of Life on Mars.

I spent most of my student years in the Rat and Ratchet. They are brewing their own beers now.

A less well known pub for a nice pint is the Cavalry Arms on Halifax Road. They usually have a couple of ales on and it’s a cosy pub with a friendly Landlord.

It rides well, good grip from the Kendas, no problems with the drive train.

Damnit, it starts to download the track then freezes at 8%. I’m seriously considering sending this back now. I’m getting nowhere fast.
