Just thought I'd give you guys an update.

Decided to send my Luu light back to Planet-X.

Just to re-assure anybody that has bought or plan's to buy a Luu, it's certainly a nice light – good quality and great burn time.

I would stand by my impression that it's not really putting out 900 lumens though, but then I then I think it seems pretty clear that the Soeul P7 is never actually going to do that in the real world.

In essence, I think my expectations were a little on the high side.

So, nice light, good quality – probably plenty bright enough for most situations, but PX offered me a refund so I thought I'd go for that, save a few more quid and get some Ay-ups.

    Cheers

Indded robgarrioch, I was expecting 900 Ln to blow my socks off – and it hasn't.

My mate's Hope Vision 4 is mighty impressive and kinda what I was hoping for with the Luu.

    Hey ho.

    Yup, I think I've got a duffer.

I was "on the brakes" the other night as the light did not give me enough confidence on a particular decent. Not good – and that was on the road!

Seems plenty of people are happy with them so hopefully mine is just sub standard and in the minority.

    Cheers for all your opinions.

Thanks Luminous – I agree with all your comments particularly about the beam strength and fragmented pattern with the narrow lens.

Really not what I expected for £175.

I'll put this one down to experience I think and start saving for some Ay-ups!

    Thanks Guys,

Some interesting opinions – but I'm confused.

I'm thinking I must have a sub standard unit then, because there is absolutely no way mine is anywhere near as bright as my mates Hope Vision 4. That is in a totally different league – I'm talking twice as bright, wider, whiter – just way, way better!

    Thanks Guys – interesting!

Does anybody have any idea what theoretical max lumens equate to in the real world??

Let me know how you get on matey.

Maybe I was expecting too much?

I dicked around with the different lens' for ages and finally stuck with the spot beam – the others were just too wide and diffuse?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong and haven't yet found the secret "mega power setting"!

Maybe post a review after a few rides? I would value somebody elses opinion.

I've never had a problem with Avid's pad retention system? Seems pretty simple to me and works well – That said, I've never had to change them out on the trail.

I run Juicy Ultimates and they are pretty minimal. No complaints but sometimes feel the lever has too much travel and the pad contact adjustment really doesn't seem to do much?

Mmmm, I'm no Steve Peat, but I ride routes like Rushup Edge and Jacobs Ladder.

I tend to stay on the ground but have been known to get a little air when I'm feeling confident.

I agree, you can also add on "cover away from home" so if you are staying with a mate or get the bike pinched out of a car – you are also covered.

Good policy. I had 4 bikes stolen in one hit and they paid out – eventually!

Quality mate – mine was much the same – shame it’s only 0.8 miles though :(

Thanks Stoner – I’ll look into that long term, but I was kinda hoping for something for nowt, just covering the dark peak. Just a PDF or hi res JPEG.

    Cheers

    Flip,

I have a Spark and fitted Juicy Ultimates no problem. As I recall, the cable guides are two part jobbies held together with an allen screw. Just take them apart, lay the hose in the lower part and re-assemble.

Not sure if Minis have bigger hoses though?

Elan? Not a real Lotus – wrong wheels driven.

OK, a bit harsh, admittidly, one of the best front wheel drive cars ever.

    But no Elise…….

    Nixie,

I drive a Series 1 111s and it still brings a stupid smile to my face every time I get in it. Hell, it even makes me smile just seeing it on the roadside.

If you’ve got the “Elise thing” in your blood, none of the negative issues matter. Noise, harshness etc etc, all just adds to the experience.

Mine has given me 4 years of completely trouble free, reliable motoring.

Don’t believe the hype – well looked after examples are very reliable and if you treat it with care when cold, HGF is simply not an issue to worry about.

The only down side is you cant carry your bike. The only proper bike rack I’ve seen needs modification to the rear clam!

If you want any buying advice, feel free to get in touch.
