    Thanks again

Thanks all for the response, really appreciate any guidance on this….

My Diverge frame is pretty hammered now, the BB30 has always had the clicking issue, the lower headset bearing in stuck in the frame and one of the threads for the rack is kinda stripped – the bike has served me well – my longest audaxing, bike packing tours along with winter chaingangs etc ect.

I’m not really interested in titanium frames due to additional weight, alu or carbon preferable.

I’ve spotted the Paralane frame but it’s 1x, do you know if it’ll take a front mech, I’ve emailed the seller but yes, it looks to be an ideal swap for the diverge and what I’m looking for – we’ll see, reach 12mm shorter, stack 8mm lower and wheelbase 15mm shorter than my 56 diverge, unsure what the impact of those numbers would be on feel/speed.

I really like the look of the Datum but unsure if it’ll take a pannier rack?

I had a hugemongus old Coleman sleeping bag that I’ve been lugging round with me on tours for the last few years.
Rating of 10+ comfort and a weight of 1.5kg it’s not ideal.

I’ve just taken a pop and ordered a RAB Neutrino 200 + silk liner (links below)
I chose the bag as it’s incredibly lightweight and temperature rage is there or there about what I’d need.
Colder and I can wear more layers, I think the liner will help a bit too. Plus it comes with a compression dry sack and cotton airing sack. –675g–

The site is very similar to Blacks, lots of other sleeping bags are on sale but this is the one that was most suited to my needs.

Use the code CA15 before the end of the day and get 15% off.

    Great thanks for the advice!
Planning routes on the Garmin itself would only be a last resort, as I mentioned I plan through Strava and export the TCX file to the Garmin and go.
Looking into the Edge Touring rage or an older version with off road maps loaded.

I dislike having to stop and fumble round with my phone for directions.

I’d have worries about taking carbon wheels, personally I’d use the Alu brake surface ones.

    This might be a stupid question but;
Can the stock SS wheelset take/be adjusted to take an 11 speed shimano cassette.

I’ve been doing the steel snobbery thing and overlooked this frame, I’ve got a 105 road groupset that needs a home, I’d need to swap out the hydro brakes for mechanical.

I love the paintwork on the SS model.

    Interested in this bike much!
Which front mech are people using with it?
I think the Cinelli Zydeco comes close too.

Also, somebody more qualified than me..
What are the differences in geometry between the Kite (top) and RLT (bottom) in words rather than number and how would the feel differ?

Great suggestions, the London Road frames is appealing but I’d rather Steel.
Not so much a fan of the Orange, really interested to hear more about the Kite…
Would it be super pricy to build a reasonably light full build, and how do you get around the top pull only mech?
    What’s APF?

You should do an Audax, SPD jesus creepers aplenty and the friendliest “tough as old boots” people I’ve ever come across.

I’m confused by this technical chat, but very very grateful all the same!
So is it advisable to have it changed ASAP now?

    Thanks all!
I’m going to have it done in the next month in that case!
The car only cost £400 but it has been very reliable so wish to keep it going rather than running into the ground and getting a lemon. I’ve called for a couple of quotes and they are around the £300 mark, pricey but worth the piece of mind as the car has been good to me over the last year.

No clue as to if I can extend the forks, sounds scary 8O

    They are Rebas

TurnerGuy thanks, I want to keep it as simple as possible to change but agree that the 100mm forks are the limiting factor so might look at a frame and fork swap to get the bike I’d like to ride. I’d looked at the Anthems before but not the others.

Z1ppy I think I’d be hard pushed to demo a full sus 26″ these days, could be wrong though. I’m just looking to pick up a used frame and whack the components over in all honesty, I’d love to try lots of different ones but the reality is different I think as I’m quite limited by the wheels and fork travel as to what is available to me.

    Hi Gringo!
I was in your position last year, also riding a CAAD8 with the flimsy factory wheels.
I too was looking for a bargain but wanted something that was proven, I brought a set of Campagnolo Zonda wheels when they were on offer for around £245 I think. The change is outstanding, it is honestly like day and night, can’t recommend them highly enough.
The wheels you have posted look like a great deal but I have no experience of them, they are slightly lighter than the Zonda’s and are tubeless compatible if you fancied that in the future.
Hopefully somebody will pop along and give you some better info on the wheels but failing that consider the Zondas.

TBH it won’t be as effective as even a little squirt of washing up liquid and some warm water in the chain cleaner.

    Tip:
I use an empty bottle of Muc-off filled with a diluted solution of this, spray it on the all the drivetrain and chain and clean the rest of the bike, then run the chain cleaner last containing washing up liquid and warm water mixed, works really really well.

We are doing Flanders in 2015 and hope to to Roubaix in 2015.
Interesting to see what people say in this thread, Flanders cobbles aren’t as harsh as Roubaix but still keen to be more comfortable.

Also does anybody know if you can spin around Roubaix velodrome on a normal weekday/weekend?
We are staying 10 miles away for Flanders and thought it would be a nice thing to roll out to on the Friday before riding the Sportive on the Saturday.
    Sorry to hijack!

Ah brilliant thanks for all the info guys. I did a couple last year (G10/42 & H10/17r) so they are out there lazy!
Keen on doing more and agree it’s against the clock but also good to have a bit of competition rather than being down on anybody riding with tri bars.

Interesting phil CTT are talking about making a rear light compulsory and the helmet issue has been brought up again as far as I know.

I’m not sure if it’s any help but I had an email from Ribble saying if you spent £100 between now and Christmas they issue you with a £50 discount on any groupset.

As far as I know it’s not an annual thing and not dated in anywhere to happen again.
I say this as I needed to replace my helmet early this year and spoke to my lbs about it and this is the reply I received.

However recently they ran a Kask promotion offering the same thing so perhaps you could keep your ear to the ground and wait for a similar promotion?

Would missing links work in a SS set up, I could get two sprockets and perhaps just add a missing link to the chain when adding a larger?

    dsb181
    Free Member

Will that chain run with the chainring and sprocket I want, it says it’s 9 speed spacing.
I’m thinking 42/17 is a good starting point for what I’m after

    dsb181
    Free Member

NW because I would run a 1×9 set up in the future or for touring ect.

The gearing on the ride to work I’m willing to compromise and more a little slower to prevent grinding my knees to death every time I’m off road. To be fair 42/18 or 17 seems workable.

The 9 speed chain choice was because the nw chainring works with that spacing, as does the on one sprocket.
