Good thinking, I’ll have a look.

Searched around on the Sram site for S900 manuals to no avail.

After cold setting, any ideas on bending the trackends so that they are straight? Thanks

Does the block of wood need to stay wedged between the dropouts for any particular period of time?

Thanks for the responses, I bought the frame.

I’ll post up build pics when it arrives, it’s going to be a slow burner though, one major part per pay check.

Thought about single speeding it, but then thought why get a road bike and limit myself on flats/downhill. So Campag or Shimano?

Unless its serious DHing you won’t notice the lack of suspension after a couple of rides. To me rigid feels more direct, gives you a lighter front end and more control.

I’m planning to build my 5ft 2 Mrs a small Pompino, the more I think about it though a 14″ inbred like the op’s makes a lot of sense. Ooh err.

Yes, I told the guy that I drove it (completely) flat to the garage, it was probably 1/2 a mile. He didn’t seem to think there was any damage to the rim.

Thanks for the wheel removal tips.

Just got back from the tyre place, the guy got the wheel off with embarrassing ease. There was a huge effing nail in it. Just on the inside edge of the tread. He ummed and ahhed, I was waiting for him to say “new tyre”, he eventually decided to patch it. Very interesting process. 20 quid later I drive off a happy man. Thanks for all your advice.

My family and I moved to the US in September. I won’t bore you with our healthcare experiences other than to say that we recently took our baby for her 4 month check up which included a 45 minute wait, 10 minute ‘consultation’ and 3 vaccinations. Total cost to us, $911.

The NHS is good, believe me.

Currently running Schwalbe Duranos, 25mm. 1 puncture in 6 months so far which was a pinch due low pressure, otherwise bombproof, they’re not the fastest feeling tyre.

Previously used GP4000s, lively feeling tyre but cut up badly and got shed loads of punctures.

Also used Maxxis Detonator which were ok, bit slow and some punctures.

Ultra sports rolled nicely but were too flimsy, cut up badly and got they’re fair share of puncs.

Next on the list is Ultremo tubeless, when I save enough dosh

They do seem to have a chronic problem with not having frames in stock. I’m after a 14″ slot dropout Inbred, can’t find one for love or money.

I remember On-One sent me two Pompino frames, when I only ordered and paid for one, I thought long and hard about it before my conscience got the better of me and I called them up to tell them of the mistake, felt a little better as at the time they still seemed to be a small company.

14.5 miles each way for me on a SS Pompino, 42-18, 25mm Schwalbe Duranos. It’s a new job, so still getting my bearings /routine down with showers, changing and routes.

Work starts at 7am, so leave at 5.30. I’d be interested to know how early people set off.

Great, thanks for the info, I suppose oiling the bearings would require more regular maintenance (re-oiling).

Here’s a quick rundown of bikes owned.

    Raleigh Burner

    Grifter

    Raliegh Massif (nicked)

    Raleigh Apex (nicked)

    Edinburgh Bike Coop Courier (nicked)

Edinburgh Bike Coop Courier Race (given away)

    Specialized FSR XC Expert (sold)

    On-One Pompino (current)

    On-One 456 Summer Season (sold

    On-One Inbred Slot-Drpout (sold)

    Singular Swift (current)

    next ????

They all have their own pros and cons, I suppose I’ve had the Pompino the longest, and it’s had the most use. The Spec got me back into MTBing in earnest – I came of age on the Raleigh Apex – the Swift is a keeper, I can’t think of anything it won’t handle (within reason).

Next?? Maybe a Cannondale Caad something? Or a Giant Defy?

New dad here too – day 8 today. All your stories sound familiar, wife planned all natural birth, ended up being a pitocin-epidural-mammoth labour-baby stuck-emergency c-sec type deal. All well in the end though, wife’s still trying to get over it, on top of having a newborn around.

Good luck to all, as i sit here burping the little one, something tells me we’ll need it!

I used a bike bag on a trip around Lewis, I stashed it in this salt bin just outside the airport, luckily it was still there when I returned a week later.

On various transatlantic trips I’ve used bags and boxes in equal measure, had buckled wheels, bent rotors (remove them now), dented frames, bent chainstays, scraped/scratched paintwork. I reckon the only fail-safe way of transporting is with a rigid plastic/metal box – however this eats up weight allowance and they are considerably more expensive to purchase.

If anyone’s interested, I have decided to take the more stressful hossie job, I feel good about the decision.

Thanks for all the advice – if it doesn’t work out then I’ll know where to find you. 😉

The SS I speak of is a Pompino, being used on a city commute of 15 miles. I’m trying to talk myself out of purchasing an uber light road bike by convincing myslef that it won’t be substantially faster…

Kryton – so theoretically could I use a single ring up front and a retro-fitted cassette with the smallest cog being 18t?
