“Acpo was concerned about the starting salaries range proposed and the outcome of these negotiations means that chief constables will now have the flexibility to pay a starting salary of up to £22,000 depending on skills and qualifications. Officers can also reach the top rate of pay three years earlier than under the current arrangements.”

    Not all bad news then?

Quieter, but there’s no “civilization” en route ;-)

Tagging this thread. I’ll be cycling it in the Spring so I’m interested in any feedback.

I drove up it again recently and it was as Captain_Sponges description. Quite hilly in places and quite busy in parts. Not very wide either so I expect some close overtaking.

The NCN route goes away inland to avoid it.

I still buy CDs (online) – they are often cheaper than the downloads.

Is Leptin available over the counter?

That doesn’t surprise me in the least. Still – it’s on my Bucket List.

Deciding early would be good. The WHW in particular gets booked up – and the Scottish school holidays start at the beginning of July. Train spaces for bikes are also limited.

The more information you can provide on the sort of riding they want to do, the better route suggestions will crop up. I’d not rule out some of the quieter roads too – especially on the islands.

I’d assumed about half that! (only based on having walked a bit on the West coast and walked/ridden some of the central stuff)

Like walking past the obstacles on the Olympic XC course?

It has its moments (Polmont Young Offenders Institute for one). It’s also part of the new Scottish National Trail – an end-to-end route (primarily for walkers) gong from the border to Cape Wrath. It’s the most sensible route out of Edinburgh if you want to avoid roads and it takes you to within spitting distance of the West Highland Way.

Your friends might want to know that the Loch Lomondside section of the WHW includes a little carrying. If they are travelling light it shouldn’t be a problem and they’ll get lots of advice on here.

Ooh – while we have the Spanish contingent available…

I have access to an apartment in Calahonda in April. I was thinking of popping over with a bike to do some gentle off-roading, possibly mixing it up with quiet roads etc. I would hire a car or van for driving to any good spots. I’m more interested in doing some decent distances and getting good views than hooning down rocky passes. It looks like there are some tracks up from Marbella that would be a good starter. Any other ideas/resources/other websites I should investigate? And what are the access laws like – am I likely to be shot for trespassing?

I think this might be a pre-cursor to doing the full circuit of Andalucia, mibbe next year.

Never happens to me on my Android phone – but then I’m normally logged in. I’ll have to consider that when I lose my P.

OK – just tried it logged off. Still not happening.

You get it even with your P?

The EWM serves it’s own “niche” customer base – mostly the well-off elderly. I reckon they are safe for a while – especially as the pensions are going up.

I’ve thought about it a few times but not sure the reward would be worth the effort. Be aware that you’ll have to skip the first section along the shore at Portpatrick in any case.

Towpath almost all the way – apart from a couple of very short on-road sections. It varies in width quite a bit though – and surface. The two canals meet at the Falkirk Wheel – well worth a visit in its own right.

I’m struggling to think of any other companies that always have some sort of “sale” on, either through issuing discount codes to everyone or just advertising it on their website.

I’m sure that if I think long and hard enough about it whilst browsing this site, something will pop up.

Aspartame is a methyl ester of the dipeptide of the natural amino acids L-aspartic acid and L-phenylalanine.

So what ingredients of aspartame or NOT natural?

If I didn’t have the Amazon, I reckon the Fargo would do my touring/softroading/bikepacking roles – so two bikes into one. That would just leave the carbon road bike and the Blur XC.

    And the fatbike. :-)

Alasdair – mirrors my thoughts almost exactly. The other option would be to head North West from the Great Glen and do some sort of route to Kyle or along that line somewhere.

If you got one would you ride it more than the Stumpy? If so, that’s a good enough reason.

Endura. They’ll do fewer than 15 but it gets expensive.
Good range of stuff available and you can mix up garment types to get the numbers up. Handy if someone wants both short AND long sleeved tops.

    Build your own?

Shop around for the best price for the components and buy a truing stand. It’ll be as cheap as getting them built for you and you’ll have a new skill that will save you money in the long term.

I’ve used a 9-speed SRAM Powerlink on a Shimano 10-speed road chain and it works fine. Is HG-X any different?

Time on site will be less now that there are only 35 posts per page as it’ll take less time to read. Mind you, that will have increased page impressions, so it’s not all bad.

Unique visitors by cookie and up address? Sadly, the growth in mobile devices is making this number a bit difficult to assign weight to. I’m not sure how that one can be resolved other than by enforcing log on.

Dunno what it’s all about either. Bleed when fitting and leave alone. Mind you, all mine are Shimano and nothing newer than 775.
