All I managed was a ride to the shop today. Still enough to put a smile on my face ;-)

Thanks for a really helpful response, Mister P. That’s above and beyond what I expected.

Off to speak to the people at my LBS now!

I asked a similar question recently, and got some good responses.

I’ve been experimenting since. For what it’s worth, I found that I preferred a softer spring than I used to have in the forks for most of my riding. However, on days where I knew I was going to be pushing myself a little more on bigger terrain and specifically, jumps and drops, I wanted to go back to a more firm spring, as Skyline-GTR’s response in my thread suggested.

I can only advocate doing the same really, play with your set up until you feel as though you have it right for your style of riding. In doing so, I’ve found that I’ve come to understand bike set up a little more which is a good thing too in my opinion.

    Hey,

I’m having similar thoughts currently and ride in similar locations. I started out really wanting a S/C Bullit but have recently heard that they’re being discontinued (not that that’s a problem per se, I was just hoping to buy a new one – you can always go the 2nd hand route.)

At the moment, the bikes that I am considering are as follow:

    Transition Bottlerocket
    Santa Cruz Butcher / Heckler
    Orange Patriot
Knolly Chilcotin (not too sure about UK availability at the moment though…)

    Another vote for Jedi here.

I’ve done both his singletrack and jumps and drops courses, and followed up with a 1-2-1 coaching session with him. I’ve worked with some fantastic coaches before (not sport related though) and was, and continue to be, blown away by Tony’s natural ability to determine the best way to implant the knowledge necessary for me to improve.

I cannot recommend a visit to him enough.

That’s impressive stuff. I saw this on my twitter feed earlier and was going to send it on to you Tony – – the riding’s not as insane but video and music is still cool I reckon

Swapped them out earlier and it was as easyvas you guys and the manual suggested, thanks again for your help.

Thanks for the responses all. Will ride them and continue to experiment until I get the right feel I guess.

I can only do weekends at the moment as I work away during the week. I’d still be grateful of a tour of riding spots local to Tring having only moved there recently. How does the weekend of the 11th / 12th of June suit?

B r, if you fancy a trip to Swinley again in a few weeks, drop me a pm. I’ve not been and would be grateful of somebody to show round and to ride with.

Incidentally, I’m finding it really hard tonfollow this thread without an alerting system. If any of you need to get hold of me as I haven’t responded you’ll probably find it easier through twitter -@danrough

22nd still works for me, and 10 is a respectable hour too. Count me in.

    Hey b r,

Keen to meet up for a ride if you are still. I work out in Copenhagen during the week though so wouldn’t be able to do an evening ride. Could you do something in a couple of weeks, on the Sunday (the 22nd)?

I’ve got an XL Chameleon which I’ve had for circa 8 years or so. It’s a bit of a Trigger’s broom and in its current incarnation, I’m running it with 160mm Fox 36 Van Rs and a pretty short 80mm stem. Previously I had RockShox Psylo’s (120mm IIRC) on it and a longer 120mm stem.

The ride has changed dramatically, it’s more difficult to climb on, that’s for sure, but it doesn’t preclude me from doing long day rides on it. It’s certainly become more point and shoot when going down a trail.

I’ve not got much experience on frames other than an Orange P7 which is even older, but I really enjoy riding it, more so than the Orange, that’s for sure.

I’ve recently moved to Tring and have found some really nice singletrac between there and the Ashridge estate. Still in the process of exploring though, it would be good to see people’s route maps / GPS data if they have it.

    Hey Monsta,

I realise that I’m a little late to the party on replying to this post ;-) but have just moved to Tring and am keen to get out and see what singletrack there is on offer. You still in the area and interested in people to ride with?
