Same setup as me, decided not to buy a clutch mech to see how it goes. Dropped once but not too concerned that I want to spend another £50 on a new mech.

Ton, you’re posts are always spot on. I’ve just had some of the best of Cairngorms brewery ale and then hitting the red wine. Cycling at 10 tomorrow and will suffer but having a good night in watching movies with the good wife.

Top tip – lightly double tap the home / fingerprint sensor and the screen comes down so you can reach the too, ideal for the address bar in the browser.

Just to big up Audi’s, my Q7 requires the entire housing to come out, which in reality means you disconnect the power, pull up some latches, release the catch and it slides out. 5 min job.

Excellent, will try that tonight. Anyone want to buy a crank puller, unused?

+1 for all the marketing BS stopping people buying bikes. Have been looking for a new bike for my 40th and all the wheel size choices, drive chain choice, all the niche disciplines, ‘standards’ changes etc have just made it too difficult to pin the right bike down. Therefore I still go out on my ‘old’ bikes and have a great time.

Rik, has anyone ever put it to the powers that be, that it’s an excessive charge for MTB only. Surely a tiered ticket, grounds only, house only, combination ticket setup is the way forward? I deliberately don’t go to drumlanrig with my 2 mates as we’re £13.50 (many years since I last went to highlight my point)to use the trails, no interest in the house, plus we don’t spend as much at the cafe. Surely attracting more MTB’ers getting their extra cafe spend and telling their mates is the long term aim?

First of all, put a lottery ticket on.

Second, contact local police station and report RTA with all details

Third, Do you have any insurance, British Cycling, legal cover on house? Might be worth seeing what their t+cs are

Lastly get some pain killers in as you’ll develop some aches. Good luck.

I’m in the market for a new FS, have been for a couple of years, but wheel size / ‘standards’ changes (1×10, 1×11 / 15mm thru, 20mm) meant i’ve held off. Also to buy a ‘better’ bike than my current one would cost me about £4k

Use IMAP, all emails kept on server, subset (i.e. last 7 days, 2 weeks etc. ) kept on phone / tablet depending on settings on phone. IMAP allows updates between devices, so delete on phone, it deletes on all devices. Read on tablet, its read on all devices. Send email from computer, its in the sent folder of all devices. You get the idea.

Me and a mate did it last April over 3 days. Got good weather, no midges and thankfully no mechanicals (we got off and lifted our bikes over the water bars, from previous experience they are inner tube eaters). The hike a bike from Inversnaid is basically horrible, avoid if you can. We stayed in the Drovers Inn, Kingshouse on Rannoch Moor and Cruachan hotel. We drank beer at night and started later than the walkers, overtaking them before long. The bag carrying service is great, i used AMS and the guys said if we had any mechanicals or problems they would pick us up and put the bikes in the truck. Top blokes. We met another group who had asked them to get them a rear mech hanger and the AMS guys had it waiting for them in Tyndrum. Well worth the £45 we paid. Its a great few days, we could have maybe done it faster, but we wanted to enjoy it. And we did.

I have the cir clip out and it seems undamaged. Strangely it was on top of the wedge bolt and came out easy. Is there another one?

I’ve looked at the diagrams and the wedges appear to be connect to the main BB via some ‘teeth’ so I’m not keen to force it out.

It’s a 2014 model and the docs are from circa 2003.

Frank, it’s a great bike, but Cannondale assembly workers must be allergic to grease as it’s comes with a mere rumour of the good stuff. The creaks that come off it! It’s less than 6 months old and I should have checked this given the other issues! Anyway bought the tool so shall see how that goes.

Just cycled home through Hovelville, while I have some reservations that it’s not the cycle friendly games they claim (closed cycle routes, dangerous poorly signposted diversions and a lack of awareness from pedestrians stepping into cycle lanes without looking), there is a great atmosphere with lots more cycling, foreign visitors and a general buzz and proudness from the people of Glasgow about Glasgow. Glasgow was jumping tonight and hopefully will be throughout the games. It’s a great city.

I ordered a Trail SS 2014 from Evans on cycle scheme, by the time i got the voucher (Feb/Mar) for £750 for some reason Evans had 10% off for that weekend only, even latest models! So I got to choose £75 of stuff from the shop, which the wife promptly spent part of it on herself. Btw its a great bike, but if your commuting you’ll need to change the rear cog as its in an uphill gear ratio. I bought a cog from Evans and they changed it at the 1 month service FOC.

Wife and I taking my 12 yo daughter and 11 yo step son on train to start of cycle path to Loch Lomond, 13 mile cycle to Balloch, meeting my mum and dad and then a big lunch when the two older daughters arrive on the train. Weather looks like it might hold out as well. Train all the way home as well so one or two pints to be had.

Sounds like the UPS wasn’t protecting everything and backups were not sufficient. DR testing also skipped by the looks of it. IT at fault for not being prepared. UPS will handle spikes and brown outs.

In safe mode, open the command prompt and type msconfig. This will give you a wee program that let’s you stop loading program’s at startup. Disable everything, reboot and if it works, add then one by one. Or if it’s just happened, open program’s in control panel, order by install date and uninstall the last program or update.

You could park in Strathclyde Park, junction 6 end in one of the free carparks. Make your way through the park west towards Glasgow. Come out the park at junction 5 of the M74, massive roundabout. Stay on the pavement / cycle path. Follow it round left crossing the onslip south bound to the next junction, the offslip from the M74 onto the roundabout northbound. Cross this road at the lights and keep an eye out for a path heading off to the left. Take this path that disappears into trees and bushes but follows the road, this will take you under the bridge along the River Clyde and over a raised walkway. At the other end you will come out at Bothwell memorial.

You’ve now got a choice of heading across the road and left, cross the bridge and head right along the cycle walkway to Blantyre. From Blantyre you can follow the A724 straight into Glasgow or divert left at Drumsagard onto country roads further up in the hills. (You could if feeling fit get to Cathkin Braes this way). Nearer Glasgow you come in through Bridgeton, Glasgow green and the River Clyde. This is my commute. Fairly safe even at night in winter.

Or you could head right up the hill towards Bothwell, pass through to Uddingston and take London road into Glasgow. London road is a 2 lane, 30/40 mph not too busy carriageway through Parkhead and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. Take you straight into Glasgow at the Barralands.

If you decide to stay for a few beers one night just get the train to Hamilton and freewheel down the hill to the park, cutting through the Palace grounds.

I used to work for one of the big UK companies. Had a few members of my team get it done and all raved about it. Very safe procedure although there is always a risk. Complications range from dry eye and halos driving to infection and more serious issues needing corneal surgery (very rare). If I remember correctly you need to be over 21 with a stable prescription for the last 2 years. Various measurements are taken to ensure you have a thick enough corneal and map the eye. This mapping is what’s used in the custom procedure to reduce you risk of higher order aberrations like halos. Treatment will probably be LASIK (creating a flap) as that has the wow factor and more commercially viable. Lasek (effectively dissolving the outer layer of cornea) has longer recovery time and more irritation. Creating the flap (aka slicing the top of the cornea and leaving a hinge for the flap to put back down) can be down mechanically (blade) or by laser. Using the laser creates a more consistent, cleaner, less raggedy edge to the cut making replacement easier.

The laser will track where it is and shut off if you move too much. The smell is carbon atoms created by the laser and not necessarily ‘burning’ of the eye.

By mid 40s you’ll need readers and there’s no cure yet for that.

Btw I’m not a surgeon, just worked in the IT dept of a provider. Now moved on.

ahwiles +1, i assume we all have other outdoor interests or generally just enjoy being out. I would like to see a feature once a month on a different outdoor topic. Trail running, rock climbing, anything outdoors. Buy it in, get the team to do it, all good.
