Anyone know what he’s riding? Heading up to the Ridgeway later so will give him a shout!

Conditions look pretty great for this, trail fast and dry, what wind there will be should be on your back on the last leg.

    Good luck!

I spoke a bit too soon :( Just had a massive, unforecast, downpour here

    Can’t stand mine :)

Really versatile bike. I’ve had mine single speed, with an Alfine and derailleurs. Been used as a commuter, Audax, light off-road and just riding around. Comfortable for long rides, couldn’t ask for more

Haven’t ridden either but here’s my ha’pennyworth any way :)

When I came back to mountain biking about 5 years ago I wanted a Swift but bought a Rockhopper because it was cheaper. The Rockhopper was a good bike but I still wanted a Swift. Fast forward to 4 months later, test rode a Swift, put a deposit down when I finished the ride and sold my Rockhopper for a loss.

So my advice is follow your heart, save you pennies and buy the bike that you really want. Doesn’t matter which one people here think is ‘better’ you won’t be happy with a compromise.

Fantastic ride by Alex Dowsett but what a shame he was pipped to the post.

Said on the BBC that he gave Brandle the stage:

“I spoke to Matthias and we made an agreement he would go for the stage because I knew there was a good chance I would take yellow and it was a risk I was willing to take,” Dowsett told ITV.

Sounds like we’ve got a fair few locals in the area!

May come and cheer you on as I live just below the Ridgeway, you got an ETA to cross the A338?

But what sort of UV protection do they give? My understanding of cheap/fake sunglasses is that’s where they’re not as good as the genuine items.

Not used a Diablo but I find the Joystick perfect as a helmet mounted light, not enough power for serious off-road on its own in my view.

Upgrade from Elixirs? How about putting a foot on the tyre?

Another cracking day yesterday with some more natural riding:

Had a great day too yesterday!

Whinlatter Red run. Had it practically to myself, just saw one other rider – having said to my wife, I’ll be fine on my own, it’s a trail centre on a sunny Sunday, it’ll be packed! Great fun as I minced my way around, stunning views, just a great day to be outside. Even overtook a guy on a road bike on the way up Whinlatter Pass. Bit of a hollow victory though, as they were half way through the Fred Whitton. Still the roadie got some flack from his mates for being beaten by a fat bike.

How long’s this ‘silence’ been? How much longer than the agreed timescale?

Yes, would be road with Ultegra shifters, cable pull would be wrong on the mtb ones

OK, I’ve done a circular route starting from Lambourn that goes through Aldbourne, Whiteshard Bottom and takes in part of the Ridgeway. It’s easy to add on extra loops.

    Would you like a gpx?

I would please, if that’s OK?

My email address is in my profile

    Thanks

The 30:40 set up will feel pretty much the same as as 24:32 on here existing set up, 30:42 somewhere between that and the 24:36.

So if she can manage without the largest cog on her existing setup should be fine

I’m half a mile away and it’s just stopped raining!

Forecast looks dry for the rest of the week so I’d say it will be wet in the usual places. Which is pretty unhelpful :) but the usual places (for the middle section around Wantage at least) are limited to a few puddles.

Conditions should be fairly good I’d imagine as with the exception of above the bits round here are fairly dry and fast.

Let me know if you need anything more

    Depends on the bike….

If you’re careful it’s doable. Depends how hard it is to get the old tyres off. I use a syringe to suck the fluid out of the tyre on the old wheel before transferring to the new wheel.

If you have to move the rimstrips across make sure you don’t tear them. I ended up with a pinhole on mine which didn’t seal and took ages to find (but fixed with a patch). If your wheels are tubeless ready you might not need the rimstrip, I don’t know as I’ve never used tubeless ready rims!

Not going to help either :)

Buy the bike your heart tells you. WHen I got back into mountain biking a few years ago I wanted a Swift: loved the look of it, had great reviews and everybody seemed to rave about them. But I bought a Rockhopper to ‘save money’. Fast forward a couple of months I test rode a Swift and put a deposit down on the spot.

On the other hand there are 27.2 droppers (if I understood correctly your Latitude takes a 27.2 post?). I’ve got an RSP one. It has 2 positions, up and down, but frankly that’s all I need

I’ve got an Exposure Redeye, if I use it in a group I’m made to ride at the back which is probably as good a recommendation as you’ll get!

It does need another Exposure light to take its power from which may be a problem with your setup but if you already have an Exposure up front it’s a great light. Min’e on my helmet but they also have a long cable version that can go on a seatpost

Doubt it will be a problem since your wheels will explode before you get to the first corner ;D.

Seriously though, as others have said there’s more to manoverabilitymanourveibility how well a bike turns than the wheel size

Yes, unless you can find a bargain singlespeed wheel, getting a geared wheel and some spacers is your best bet. That way you can also experiment either ratios more cheaply.

Realised this morning that it’s all about the smiles.

Went to bed last night planning to do 30 miles on the road bike before work but woke with a massive case of cba. Instead got out the fatty and did a very gentle 9 miles, took in the views and took it easy.

Sorry was a bit frivolous last night.

On the road I run 42:16 , but that’s on a road bike. On an mtb I guess you’d be limited to a 34T up front so I’d start at 34:13 or thereabouts and see how you get on.

As others have said, make sure you get something legal drawn up so you know where you stand.

It’s not clear whether they’re giving you the house outright or renting it to you at a minimal rent?

Don’t want to be morbid but if they die within a set time of giving it to you you may be liable to inheritance tax

    drofluf

    46:13, probably unless I use 32:45. Or else it’s 36:19

Where are you riding? How hilly or flat is it? How fit are you? Are you a spinner or a grinder? Too many variables for a sensible answer.

Not saying you can’t convert to tubeless but there are so many threads on here with people asking for help as they’ve been huffing and puffing and can’t it the tyres up.

Perhaps that’s because those convert without any issue don’t come here asking questions?

Another non-tubeless rim/non-tubeless tyre success story here. Mavic and Stan’s tape again.

Far prefer them to any other drops that I’ve used. Prefer mine with the drops horizontal as that’s where I spend most of the time on them.

The drop portion is quite short which may bother some people. Not a problem for me and I only mention it because it often comes up when Midges are discussed :)

@hora You can get stove top espresso makers that work with induction hobs. I got one in Italy – the shop owner didn’t speak English but heard the word induction and appeared with a magnet to show me which pots would work
