Citizen Chain is one of the most friendly shops I've visited. Within a couple of minutes of going in they gave me a discount on the shirt I wanted and offered to lend me a bike for that night's Critical Mass.

    Top guys!

The Smart rear light is great value for it's brightness

Run 2 lights at the back as you might not notice if the battery runs out mid ride and hopefully both won't fail at the same time

Thanks. They are more for a commuter so they should be fine. I didn't like the plastic clip on bits when I tried them

Found a pair in the shed when I was tidying at the weekend – interested?

Does look good. I'll have to see if I can negotiate a pass

Think that 23s would be pushing it – I wouldn't go narrower than 28s

How about a threshold of say more than 100 posts? Obviously wouldn't stop the determined seller only types but may weed out the casual sellers.

Great – I cycled down that street earlier this summer. The landing is probably the steepest road that I've been down. In a car you just see sky through the rear window when descending!

@bonj in map options you should be able to set orientation to either North or Track up

Now, from memory, there were two ways of doing it … can anyone tell me, in simple terms, what they were?

    Thank you so much!

Flickr has recently made it much easier. There's a new option "Share This". Select that and choose "Grab the HTML/BBCode". Check the BB Code button and copy the text it gives

Don't know if it helps but I ride a small Peregrine and I'm 5'8".

    your a giant, Mrsbeanz only 5`2" …

Should have said it's a bit tight, about on the limit for what I'd want but fine with a longish stem

    Thanks, confirmed my thoughts.

@andsy am I missing something? I'm using a normal BB7 on my right handed roadrat fork. But it's late for me :|

I'm eBaying a 17" Rockhopper at the moment – probably shouldn't post the link here but e-mail me for details.

I moved out to the US for most of last year with my family (wife plus then 5 year old son) we had ups and downs but on balance don't regret it at all. Mrsgrips raises some relevant questions, if you can resolve those then go for it!!

This probably sums up the debate between any 2 'niches' whether 26 vs 29 or MTB vs Road

Yes I give it a week, all the cool kids will be riding 69ers

Can't see why. The perceived benefits (and drawbacks of 29ers) will still be there in x months time.

because the zip has failed on the bladder compartment after 1 ride

User fail, IMO I didn't do mine up properly once and it leaked. I didn't send it back – I learned.

No, not the ziploc on the bladder iteself (although I managed several 'user fails there before I learnt 8O ) but the external zip that holds the pocket that the bladders goes into. Twice at the same point. TBH I don't think that the quality of the zip is that high.

…It's a shame the Swift is specced for an 80mm fork(I was hoping for something that could take 100-120mm), they have XL in stock at the moment.

Think that the Swift is actually specced for a 100mm fork :?

Don't even think about it. I've sent 2 back to Wiggle because the zip has failed on the bladder compartment after 1 ride, the bite valve is clumsy and doesn't deliver much liquid per suck. For £40 I got a Camelback MULE, way better quality despite the lack of tools a much better bet.

Dobo, I have emailed you some GPX.

    Anyone up for 'Part 2'?
Might be a bit heavy & greasy at the mo, but can't see it drying out any time soon

Cheeky request! Any chance of a copy? My parents live that way so I'm sometimes looking for a new diversion….

    Thanks

I bought one of these in the States

It's made by Twofish great product (no connection!) Don't know if they have a UK distributor.

Velcro holds the cage securely to the frame

If you have a USB drive use that otherwise enable the iPod for disk use, if necessary clear the songs from it and then use it to copy from computer 1 to computer 2. Job done.

In a word no. Even if the bars are OK you'll never feel confident on them.

And will feel worse for my pointing it out

It's a nice looking bike, Sam's a great guy to deal with, Singular frames are well made and if it's as good a ride as the Swift or Peregrine you won't regret it!

So what brakes are being used for CX disk combination?

drop bar shifters are of course cable brake…

I use Avid BB7's with STI's. There's also the BB5 but that's not as adjustable. I think that Shimano also do a cable disc that's compatible with road brakes.

As others have said you're probably putting too much weight on your hands. Tilting the saddle so that it's a little nose up helped me as did gel under the bar tape – I used the Fizik product. But these only treat the symptoms not the cause, work on your 'core strength' so that you're not putting your weight on your arms. Look at it as resting on the bars rather than leaning on them.
