Thanks for the comments. Had a look this morning and the cable is ‘Stupidly Long’ ™ and flexes when I pull on the lever.

So it looks like it’s out with the cutters when I get a free weekend

Thanks – yes they’re the road version. Cables look fine and move smoothly

Yes they contact but no power. With them fully on I can still force the wheel round by hand!

    1. Open the USB Stick in Finder

    2. Open iTunes

    3. Drag the songs (not the album but the individual songs!) to the USB Stick

    4. Eject USB stick and insert in PC

    5. Open iTunes

    6. Select File>Add to Library and import songs

    7. If any of the songs were bought from the iTunes store you’ll also need to authorise the PC

48/16 for the road bike, 32/18 offroad

The manufacturers generally recommend that the sensor is within60-70cm of the display so probably not :(

Another rec for a Singular Swift – always brings a smile to my face when I ride it, comfortable, responsive bike.

I’ve a set of Tora’s on mine. In comparison to the Darts that I had on my previous bike (I’m comparing steel vs. alu and 29 vs 26 here so hardly scientific :) ) I find them a much more comfortable ride than the Darts – when set for the same amount of sag.

Like druidh says what’s the problem? I get very slight overlap on my small Peregrine but only at very low speed and after a couple of ride I learnt to deal with it. Choose the right frame and adapt.

I’ve got 2 road bikes geared and single speed. I can’t honestly say that i prefer one to the other. The singlespeed is lighter and nippier. Both are comfortable enough for all day rides it just depends what mood I’m in.

So not much help I’m afraid

But getting a geared bike and leaving in one gear isn’t the same. Trust me on this.

SE Lager’s a great bike – I’ve one (albeit badged as a Dawes  but same frame and components). It’s mainly my winter commuter but I did my first (and only!) century on it.

Tyre moaning is just another excuse – “oooh I would have tackled that section fine with my Mud XXXX badger print thermo gripper tyres – must fit them next time…”

Same with the vast variety of MTB categories – “dammit, I needed my 20″ full sus rig for that DH bit and my 16lb super rocket whippet for that bit”

Don’t know about anybody else but I always have my ‘man’ following discretely behind carrying a selection of alternative bikes and wheels so I always have exactly the right equipment for the conditions.

I thought that’s what everybody did

Think that they may have meant Apple’s MobileMe service where Apple host your e-mail, calendar etc. which you can then either access via your iPhone or the website

Last year in Banff I hired some “springs” that fitted over the sole of my walking boots and gave amazing grip on snow and ice. When the East Coast get into work I’ll ask a colleague what they’re called

I lived there last year but it depends what you want to do. Most of our visitors did:

    Empire State Building
Statue of Liberty (both of these you can avoid the queues by booking online)
    Horse Carriage round Central Park
A museum of some sort – there’s so many that there’s bound to be one that you like
Pop into Grand Central Station, it’s very impressive
If you’re there in December the Christmas decorations in Rockefeller Plaza
Staten Island Ferry, but get the next one back. great views of the city from the water

Obviously the friendly groups I met on Leith Hill this morning weren’t mountain bikers then….

I got a pair of Rockshox Toras from On-One for £180 a month or so back which give a very smooth ride. Worth a check to see if they have any left.

Well since I did my first mtb single speed 29er ride on Saturday I feel well qualified to answer :)

I run 48:18 on my road bike which is fine – I can grind up most things on it. My 29er is 32:16 which seemed fine on the loops that I used to do on my geared bike, I was able to get up stuff that I used the granny ring for

    Thanks – it’s a Rockshox Tora

    I would but:

    a. am currently bikeless
    b. would probably hold her up

I think that the clubs that rhys_gibby mentioned are more road based

She’d need to get out of LOndon to find anything decent. The only vaguely interesting stuff on Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park is ‘cheeky’

Numb hands suggests that you’re putting too much weight on your hands, try to support your weight more with your back if that makes sense?

    drofluf
    Free Member

Yes, you can. But to anticipate your next question :) I don’t know where from as my LBS built up the wheel

    drofluf

Just make sure that you leave enough of the ‘drop’ to mount the levers

    drofluf
    Free Member

If you go to a flat bar you’ll need new levers – how about bullhorns instead? You can keep the shifters but get a more upright position. I did that to my Peregrine as I was never happy on the drops that I had originally fitted.

Some will say that you mess up the handling by putting flats on a bike designed for drops and vice-versa. I’ve never tried so I don’t know

Unless you want an excuse to buy a new bike could you not put a disc fork on your Crosscheck? A cheap way to upgrade a bike that you like

    drofluf

To answer the original question last year my LBS charged me £100 to build up my road bike from a frame and a box of bits that I’d sourced myself. If they’d sourced the bits they’d have done it for nothing.

At the time it suited me as I saved more on the parts than the labour cost.

I'm undecided. That's why I ride a road bike with a Roadrat fork.

I'm hoping that it will grow up into a full Roadrat. :D
