@rs. Go to Laguna Cycles. They sell a map of the local trails and will rent you a bike! Lots of stuff accessible from town

2:1 is boring on road, but the OP wanted it for a road bike. I run about 3:1 on my road bike which I find fun enough :-)

I can see 2 potential issues with Campag.

    1. Sprockets have a different spline pattern from Shimano, if you’re happy to dismantle your existing cassette and use a sprocket from there then that shouldn’t be a problem.

    2. The DMR kit spacers are a set of rings that replace the sprockets from your cassette – I don’t know what the diameter of the splines is on a Campag freehub. If they’re larger than Shimano then the spacers may not fit, smaller and they’ll rattle

You’ll need a tensioner unless you’re very lucky with the sprocket/chainring sizes you choose and the length of your chainstays.

You shouldn’t need a new chain to accommodate the deeper teeth, only issue may be if you’re running 10/11 speed, then the chain may be too narrow depending on the sprockets

.. Are the sks race blade guard thingies any good?

Not as good as full ‘guards but they do a pretty decent job. Got a pair on my winter bike, bit of spray onto my feet but no worse than my other bike with proper ‘guards.

I also usedNashbarwhen I was living there. Good prices and delivery times (for the US) at least then and to me in New York.

Oddly I found it was sometimes cheaper to order from a UK supplier and pay international postage than to use a ‘local’ retailer.

A couple of years ago I was charged 100 quid to build up a frame and box of bits, they would have done it for free if I’d bought the parts from them

The bit from Chertsey/Kingston was a guess! As I’d go through Kingston to get home but thanks for the endorsement :)

I did the reverse (but started in Wimbledon) and found the A31 very busy with lots of slip roads to cross with high speed traffic.

Doing it again, I go to Basingstoke via Picket Piece, Whitchurch, Overton. A30 to Blackwater then frimley, B311 A319 to Chobham, ottershaw, Chertsey, Walton, Kingston on Thames, Twickenham, Brentford and on to Chiswick

According to Singular Swift the head tube is 120mm. Then add what you need for headset, spacers, stem etc. Does that help?

Running a set of Toras on mine which I’m very happy with but the only other forks I’ve owned were some Dart 3’s so probably not qualified to comment!

The only 100 miler I’ve ridden was after little training: rode 10 miles each day before work ( I could walk to work) and the just did it. 100 hilly miles on a singlespeed. Not that far really

[More energy is expended in arguing the merits of 29er vs 26er than is gained or lost in actually riding them :)

    Thatvis a fact!

Because Shimaon delayed delivering the Alfine 11 for so long I got bored waiting and had my Swift built as a singlespeed “until the Alfine arrived”.

Now I’m not bothered when the Alfine arrives
