This was from snowboarding yesterday for 2 hours (average HR 91bpm, maxHR 130) – If I do any less I’ll be stood still.

I do go out for 2-3 hour MTB rides too which are a lot higher intensity – MaxHR 180 and AverageHR 140-150.

When did you last snowboard? If it was last season it could simply be that whilst you’re cycling fit in snowboarding you’ll be using different muscle grops that aren’t as fit?

That does look like a stunning ride, but I’m not sure trudging round the flatlands of Cambridge would seem worthwhile even with a fatty. Though maybe they would deal with the clay better?

I think so – on the last group ride I did my Pugsley was coping better with the clay than the others on their ‘skinny’ tyred bikes. Kept more grip and floated over rather than sinking in.

Only down side was noone wanted to ride beside me on the really wet parts because of the bow-wave of spray I was putting up

Send us a postcard from Guantanamo :D

Seriously, you’re not the first and you won’t be the last, the Consulate are fairly used to sorting new passports. I don’t know how long it takes but depending how long it takes to get an appointment travel on Thursday may be tight! Just a gut feel though

    I assume you’ve seen this link? http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/short-notice

I buy stuff online to try on for size, use the free returns service and then buy from my LBS.

Is that not what you meant?

Simples! Don’t let on that you’ve worked out what she’s doing, add lots of BSO’s to your watch list. She’ll then think that bikes are really cheap whilst on your other account you watch your carbon/titanium/whatever dream bike. Win the auction and pass it off as a BSO. What could possibly go wrong?

Alternatively MTFU and buy what you want :)

Settled on the second one I tried; a Brooks B17. Needs a little breaking in but comfortable for all day rides. Got a good deal on a Swift so put it on my Swift ( see what I did there :) ) on balance not as comfy as the B17 but I’m giving it time. Got a Charge Spoon as well that I put on for when it gets really muddy but maybe I’m over protective of my Brooks’?

I know had the same thing taking my son to school. I waved at all the other car drivers and none of them waved back.

Grumpy sods the lot of ’em. They could tell I’m not a proper driver, just a cyclist in a car….

Cycleworkx in Southfields serviced my Rockshox – don’t know if they do Fox as well.

Good price and turned tehm round in a day

4 hours on the Anthem, in prep for next week’s Brass Monkeys. 3 hours out off road on the Ridgeway, and hour coming back on the road.

Coffee and bread pudding in Lambourn.

Bit of a mudfest up there isn’t it?

I was up for about an hour testing out my new gears, think I brought most of the Ridgeway back with me :)

@cinnamon_girl, What do you mean by that? I thought I’d be ok to commute as long as there’s an A road to where I work from where I live. Perhaps a bit naive on my part though. I understand that some A roads are probably busier than others but in my experience there’s always been a route you can plot to get where you need to. Interested in what you think.

I think cinnamon_girl makes a good point. Any A road within 30 miles of Twickenham will either be rammed solid with traffic or a race track at commuting time.

Singular Peregrine? I’ve had ‘guards and a rack in mine or you can run fat tyres (well fatter :) ) as well – I’ve got 2.2″ ish tyres on mine at the moment.

My son played it yesterday in the car, it seemed to trigger, what I can only assume was, an allergic as my eyes started streaming

I’ve got mine at the junction of top tube and down tube. Velcro strap round top tube, other strap round down tube. Skinny tubed Swift and no issues

There’s not a lot of pressure on a top cap (you can use an alu bolt after all, if you’re brave)

    I’ve got one of these:

Which I like, despite its naffness, but the white’s coming off so it’s been retired. Might need to see if Jo will get some custom made out of silver for us.

Not sure about a stem cap, but maybe a key ring would be nice!

Cheap is a relative term :) your best bet is probably eBay. Fat front on an Inbred will work but you won’t get a tyre in the back.

I’d be wary of them. I fitted one to my bike and the bottom bracket died.

I’m not sure it’s linked but it seems too much of a coincidence :D

I lost round one of “New Bike for Christmas” and my then, 7 year old got a gas pipe special which was heavy and the gears too stiff to shift. Consequently he hardly rode it.

My wife noticed how heavy it was and why he wasn’t interested in riding anymore. 2 weeks later a shiny Islabike arrived….

Mountain Flyer did a test recently – last issue but 1 IIRC. They took 2 similar bikes a 29er and a 26er and did back to back loops over a range of loops. The net result was about even with the smaller wheel performing better in some areas and the bigger in others.

As others have said there’s too many variables to be able to make a truly scientific test valid

Yet another thumbs up for them here. I’ve got them on my road bike, front end of pub bike and fat bike. Easy to set up, great stopping power.

As others say they do need adjusting regularly but it’s a thirty second job with no tools required (although a Torx bit helps if you need to move the inner pad) so not a deal breaker.

Cotswolds? Is that down past Birmingham?
Never ridden it and if it means I can ride through Clarkson’s garden and annoy the grumpy old twunt, I could be very tempted.
Would I need jabs and visas etc?

Only need the jabs if you go through Clarkson’s garden :D

Forgot to ask, anyone got an idea when the On One fatties are available?

Was originally supposed to be this month but I think it’s slipped a little. Brandt put up some photos of the frames in the factory so I’m guessing the answer is ‘soon’.

There’s a big Mountain CoOperative close to downtown Vancouver. You need to be a member though, costs about CA$10 from memory. Probably not quite Halfords though. The mechanics there, or at least in Toronto, know what they’re doing and even phoned round local shops for me when they didn’t stock the part I needed!

I bought one of those over the summer. Only done a couple of rides and it didn’t affect the handling too badly. A little different but I soon got used to it

Depends on how fit you are, where you ride etc. 36:18 will be a good starting point, then fine tune if you find it too hard/easy. I started on 32:16 on my Swift before, eventually, settling at 34:18 as my ‘sweet spot’

Not sure that conversion is that easy – the rear triangle needs widening on most bikes to fit the tyres. I managed to squeeze a Pugsley wheel into my Swift but getting it to turn was out of the question!

How fat do you need to be to get one?

The ‘fat’ refers to tyre width rather than rider width

    , it’s the 47mm wide SL’s I’m looking at.

    These one

Haven’t tried them but they seem to get a thumbsup here on the Fatbike forum of MTBR. The advice there is usually pretty sound.
