I’m not in Berkshire but does anyone know if Berkshire Carpets and Blinds would come out of the county? I think that these are the correct details:

BERKSHIRECARPETSANDBLINDS or berkshire carpets and blinds ?
    Is their telephone 0118 907 8799 ? and email enquiries@berkshirecarpetsandblinds.co.uk

But if they’re wrong perhaps someone would correct me?

Had mine done a year ago went back to the surgeon after a month and his first question was “did you ride here?” – he was also a cyclist.

But at the end of the day it will depend on the exact nature of the surgery and how quickly you heal. Follow the doctor’s advice

I missed the bit where the journo said he’s actually tried one?

Don’t you think the ‘review’ would have been more favourable had he realised how much fun they are!

So how many of the haterz have actually tried one and how many are thinking “that’s different, I’m not sure, best I just push out some tired cliche about how many days snow we get or how far we all live from a beach”.

Actually thought it was a well written funny article :)

Funny but I think it’s a fake! None of that powder that they pack in airbags plus I think it would take more of an impact than that.

    But funny all the same

Went out for a ride with mine today, felt great. Much better when you’re standing up pedalling as it felt like one foot was always in the power position, something which was particularly noticeable if beasting it up a steep section. Also felt easier/quicker to accelerate as matt mentioned above. Initial snap one decent ride reaction is that I’d definitely recommend to anyone with a singlespeed. Just need to get another one now to go on the yelli

Just did my first ride on it in my lunch break and I’d echo the above.

Before I mess this up and come back posting about how carp they are can I check I’m fitting it the right way up?

I’m pretty sure I’m right but a little confused :)

When the crank is at 4 o’clock the widest axis of the chainring should be vertical. Is that correct?

I love my Swift, did a test ride on one and it just felt right. Ran mine briefly with an Alfine 8 but prefer it single speed. Comfortable bike for all day rides, handles really well, looks great. What more do you want?

I’ve been wearing ski googles with a regular (not full face) helmet in the snow. One downside is hat they limit your peripheral vision which is a problem on the road – for example when looking over your shoulder to turn right.

Is the gyroscopic effect more on a bigger wheel and thus it is harder to turn? Just wondering as they had some spinning wheels that you held at a science museum I went to today and once a wheel is spinning fast it does take a lot to shift it.

A bigger wheel at the the same rpm will be harder to turn than a small one at the same rpm – all other things being equal.

But at the same bike speed a 29er wheel will be spinning more slowly than a 26″ wheel. But what the balance between the 2 is I don’t know.

Thanks – I’ll go with a 34 in that case I think. Can always put a smaller freewheel if I need to.

Anyone know if a 36T will fit on a Swift?

    Have fun on it!

What did you decide gear wise?

Late to the party but I’ve just switched my Pugsley from singlespeed to an Alfine and I don’t regret the change, lower ratios gives me better traction when seated. Before I had to stand up when it got steeper which meant my back wheel lost grip and I was walking up stuff I should have been able to ride up.

I’ve got a DogCam Bullet HD wide – cost about £100. Used it a couple of times and been very impressed with the results. Even on a gloomy day you can read numberplates

I run an Alfine 8 on my Pugsley and have plenty of range – as with the 11 you get 30% more range having 2 rings with the overlap will be over-complicated!

they do direct mount uno version for middleburn, or the normal ones work with the standard 4 arm 104 bcd middleburn spider.

Thanks – is that the one they describe as centrelock here? Bought the vranks this week second hand and still making sure I understand what I need :)

I got some back in March for £56 from Winstanley, about the only ones that I could find. Don’t know if they meet your criteria of cheap and light

Blimey, some people’s take on “cheap” is different to mine

Bearing in mind that a GoPro is around £300 then the Roadhawk starts to look cheap to me.

You get a bollocking when you spend money on upgrades???

Upgrade the wife, not the bike then!

How well do they stay put with the rubber o ring?

Seems fairly firm but I haven’t used it in anger as the sweep of my bars points it out to one side :( Instead I used a Hope universal clamp which does the job perfectly.

Would one of these be overkill for a roadbike? My normal evening ride of 20 miles is 10 miles with street lights and 10 miles without.
On the lowest setting ,would one of these be ok for for road use with other traffic?

I reckon so. On country lanes you’ll be able to see the potholes, in town you need the extra brightness so all in all it’s win-win :)

I think it’s a great light, rarely need to use on full power. My only niggle is that as you cycle between the different powers it goes from High to Off before going to Low, but I guess that’s a personal preference.

Aren’t 29er wheels prone to spontaneous explosions?

    Best play it safe :)

According to the site you can get 32’s in with ‘guards.

Another vote for the Peregrine, mines served duty as commuter, Audax bike and currently running in monster cross mode. Very comfortable bike for long days riding, may be not the lightest but very capable. Sorry doom_mountain I’m probably not helping :)

On the other hand the Pugsley always brings a smile to my face it just rolls over whatever’s in its path, floats over the mud and has great grip.

And then on yet another hand I took my recently neglected Swift out for a ride yesterday…

In fact I like all my bikes!

Don’t do what I did on my first one: sit on the wheels of some fast rides for the first 40 miles then blow up on the first big hill! Work out a pace that you’re comfortable at and stick at it. Which Audax are you planning to do?

Disappointing but I’d take the vouchers if they’re just superficial paint chips on the basis that I’ll have added my own chips after a few rides.
