I’d get a Wahoo TICKR Fit – it goes on your forearm rather than chest, comfortable to wear and easier to put on/take off than a chest strap. Seems to give consistent results with other HRM’s that I’ve used

🙂 Yes, I’m good friends with anyone locally who sells CR2032’s!

I’ll chuck the strap in the wash with my next load (nothing to loose) and if that doesn’t work buy yet another one. Are Wahoo any good?

I’ve been using the Wahoo TICKR FIT for some time now with no problems; it’s forearm rather than wrist mounted but seems fairly accurate based on some side by side testing I did with the Mio wrist mounted one I used to have

I’ve been using the same set up with a Joystick for several years. Obviously I lack the the branch dodging skillzz gene as mine’s come off several times. In all but one event the lanyard held; the time it failed was in daylight…

Exposure wouldn’t sell me a replacement though, instead sent me one FoC. Top guys!

I’d go for a Wahoo ELEMNT; it does have mapping which I know you don’t want but is useful to have. I’ve been realaly pleased with mine: simple to set up; easy to sync with my sensors; customisable screens; simple to use and reliable.

No problem with Hermes here either, local guy is really good. But like any business our perception of their “quality” is based on how well our interaction with the person at point of delivery goes

    That depends.

If I’m fast it’s blindingly accurate; if I’m slow that it’s shockingly random

Just back from the section to the West of Wantage: generally conditions were good. A few puddles but other than that fine

Fatbike season is almost upon us…

There’s a season for fatbikes? Does that mean I’ve broken a rule by riding mine year round?

It might be pushing the definition of budget at £30 but the Bontrager Flare City is a nice light: compact, USB chargeable and bright.

I see a good rear light as essential so am prepared to pay extra for one

Heart rate is useful as a simple way to start structured training without going to the expense of a power meter. Cadence is great if you’re a numbers geek but less useful on a mtb.

If you want to dip your toes in the water with heart rate I’m selling my Mio wristband HRM here:

    https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/mio-link-wrist-band-hrm/

The ELEMNT’s great piece of kit, mine arrived last week. The side LEDs for heart rate zones are an easy way to keep track. There’s also a £50 cashback offer on it at the moment.

Had a similar sounding problem, Ergon grips sorted it for me. Or Bontrager do a cheaper alternative.

Yes, just fit a sensor and go. Don’t know about the others but I’ve had the Topeak one and it worked flawlessly. Beware of the unbranded one that you sometimes see on eBay. I had one, it worked fine but didn’t go into sleep mode so needed a new battery every few days.

If they are a complete git over it, take your next steps wisely.

This, if you have plans to sell the house at some time in the future make sure that you do this amicably as you have to disclose any “disputes” with neighbours.

Wahoo! You don’t need their sensors, works fine standalone and does just what it sounds like you want

Check any extensions that you may have. We had a dead one in our house, when I removed the cable from the socket the speed doubled, from 2 to 4 mb/s so noticeable!

Simple answer is yes, because I have that setup. Just a couple of caps that sit on the hub. I think that you also need a spacer to move the disc out but easy to come by.

If no one gives a more helpful answer I’ll dig out the details, but as I managed to do it, it’s not hard.

22mph is 10m/s (sorry about the mixed units) if as above you have an accuracy of 20m on a gps and add in a sample rate of 2s it’s quite easy to see how errors arise especially on short segments. Or how your mate who was slower on the trail can beat you on Strave.

Where’s the smug smiley when you need it?

Was out this morning on my fat bike and surprised how dry it was, mud in the usual places but generally quite fast running. Bit further West than OP, around Wantage.

    How about a Swift?

Horizontal dropouts but you can tension the chain with the EBB. Also means brakes will always be in the optimum position

When I spent a portion of my younger days carrying telegraph poles round there I was grateful that it was so flat. Think the nearest high ground to Cranwell is Siberia? At least that’s where the wind came from!

I’ve been in a similar situation for the last 5 years. How well it works depends on how efficient you are at doing your expenses, how efficient the company is at paying and when your credit card bill is due compared to when your expenses are paid. When my company’s payment department got lax the FD “gave” me a float that was about 20% more than a typical expenses bill to cover any lag.

The only other “gotcha” is how they report the expenses to HMRC. Some years (but the company isn’t consistent) they get reported as a benefit. I then need to put an equal sum on my return as a business expense to balance it out. Minor niggle but just something to be aware of.

I need to change the very stuck in place rear pivot bushes and axle thing. Both bolts have been trashed by a previous owner.

I’m after tips for reaming out the new bushes as much as anything ?

@orangeboy There was a thread about this recently on yacf.co.uk: https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=23380.0

I think it’s the same issue?

As a cheap option you can often pick up On One Midge bars for £15 or so, I like them but would prefer a longer flat section at the end. But overall very comfortable. Will probably switch to Woodchippers when they need changing or if the come up cheaply.
