I’m in the oil/gas/energy sector making capital equipment for processing purposes.

Over the years, equipment heading to the North Sea has dwindled, now just repair and maintenance – no projects.

However, middle east and far east….companies that I work with are stacked out with work at the moment.

Saudi National Oil (You know, big sponsorship of F1) are spending shed loads of money right now.

Problem, and its huge, just not enough skilled designers, not enugh manufacturing engineers or technicians – all are always desperately looking for staff.

Money is not always the issue, its the skills, and the motivation.

When I bought my Tripster the LBS kindly ordered in a 54 and 56 from the Kinesis demo fleet.

I had a ride out on each for 1/2 day.

5′ 9 1/2″ 32″  inside leg, I  like to sit up a bit, and the 54 was a good fit.

When I got to spend some time riding ‘my’ bike, I put a shorter stem on it.

Been set up like that for 7 years now.

Make it yourself from a piece of suitable solid 12 x 20 section.

    – Buy a woodwork router from Screwfix. Probably one for a 1/4 shank tool bit.

    – Choose a router bit for a 9mm cut (Your 12 – 1.5 side – 1.5 side=9)

    – Clamp up securely.

    – Take a number of light cuts and remove 18.5mm (Your 20 – 1.5)

    – Keep the router for another job.

    @convert.

A TIG machine is on my shopping list.

Will be interesting to hear more from you.

R80’s series are better than the R65.
Properly set up they will last ages and are very reliable.
Plenty of spare part sources for this range.
    Avoid GS models…..expensive.
R80ST are good but rare (I have one, but I’m not selling).
    Year 83/84 no tax required.

PM me if you want some guidance on the BMW’s.

I found similar issues with Rail Europe, where they only listed certain trains and certain times.

In order to get around the complexity of the train ticketing you have to devote an amount of time to be inventive about the routes to your final destination.

You have to devote the time, no rail company will tell you the combinations.

One of my clients, a manufacturing business with a plant in the UK, still makes ‘aero derived’ gas turbines.

Its a good example of precision engineering that we can do so well.

Producing around 60MW at >60% eff.

Generally used in the oil/gas industry on platforms that need to drive an electrical generator or a ‘big’ compressor.

Still plenty of RR Avon turbines operating world wide for similar duties.

    Qwerty.

Where abouts in the country are you?

I have previously cut up empty 25 litre black creasote drums.

Have a search around for people using 20 or 25 litre containers. Car wash people etc.

What about an old plastic mudguard?

Use a hot air gun to bend and shape.

Good find on the Adhesive Back Sponge / Foam Neoprene / EPDM on ebay.

Going to stick with plan A – Floor tile.

    Thanks all.

Going to the Winter Classic/Vintage Motorcycle show at Newark Showground tomorrow.

    Might find something suitable there.

At the moment, floor tiles look the favourite. I have found a pack – unopened- left over after covering the workshop floor. Should get enough out of just 1 tile, with a 50mm join down each side, avoiding a join in the centre.

A wooden top does look nicer for cleanup but I refer the rubber/foam at it makes any small screws, washers etc ‘dead’ and less likely to get lost.

Deltamart and esedirect interesting, but too spendy for what I need.

Stumpy 01. Yes there is a foam rubber top that has been used as a cutting board, sawing on, gluing on, painting on etc., hence wanting to replace the whole piece with new.

Use a 1 inch wide webbing ratchet strap round 1 or 2 opposite locations on the frame and strap down to the boot floor tie downs or the body mounted ‘hooks’ that the rear seat backrest locks to.

I have just been given a Moleskine A5, page per day diary.

    Lovely. That will do nicely.

    January filling up already.

I had 2 of the Screwfix NEBO.

    Both returned.

The batteries don’t last a year.

    Changed tack and bought:

    https://www.toolstation.com/gp-discovery-ultra-robust-work-light-head-torch/p20650

Takes AA batteries, which seem to last ages. Bonus is, you can tell when the batteries are dying, then you have the chance to fit new ones, whereas the rechargable in the NEBO just went out.

Had it a couple of years now.

    Recommended.

    How about:

    Use gaffa tape to secure.

Take some spare tape for the return journey.

Ask the supplier to confirm the details by sending you the relevant product spec as a .pdf, or giving you the Wurth part number.

Whilst we are on this subject, what can I do on a 2 year old ipad to improve its performance?

Mrs Nosh can get on all the shopping web sites for clothes etc, funnily enough, but claims to be unable to load and open essential shopping such as Morrisons and Tesco, only Waitrose !!

I tried the ‘developer’ fix on an older Samsung Touch and it improved the browsing. Next is to load one of the lightweight browsers.

Is there anyway of removing Chrome?

Going to have a play with the Pixel 6a phone as well.

Rear brake lever arm is wrong though.

    Its gone past 180 deg.

Should be much less than that for leverage.

    Bring back ICI ‘Trike’.

Best at degreasing metals after machining,……but keep away from plastics and skin.

Anyway, the Montreal protocol put paid to any more of that…as a serious ozone depleter.

I think the aerospace industry still use it.

I use ‘keyed’ alike on locks around here. Carry 1 key instead of half a dozen.

Padlocks set up by local locksmith.

    Master brand I think.

Got to buy a box of 1000 pieces though.

So, it looks like your original battery is LiPo.

What specification is the existing charger?

    Or

    Lithium Polymer Battery – 400mAh
