but there isn’t the state sanctioned contempt for international law that Russia displays

Maybe. Who knows? There is state sanctioned contempt for international law displayed by Ukraines allies elsewhere on the globe, so why would Ukraine be specially virtuous?

t really does sound like the Russian military are running on fumes, holding out for Trump in November. So what happens if Harris takes it?

Probably about the same as happened when Ukraine got Leopards, Storm Shadow, Abrams, Patriots, F-16s i.e. nothing much.

It seems to me that Russia tends more towards the latter.

It would, because that is what all your (our) media are broadcasting.

We’re allowed to work a month away so might try the Canaries this winter.

Be careful. My ex-employer would not allow us to work from abroad because of tax issues.

edit – but you live in the EU already, right?

How does the CO2 impact of heating ones home over winter  compare with  to flying to Asia and back ?

I assume the OP was planning to walk. In sustainably produced sandals, natch (╹◡╹)

That was always our plan before the B-thing happened. Now we spend a month away at a time a few times a year. Health care is a thing that needs to be thought about, as well as preparing your home for a long absence.

Miss J used to call the TV remote the “ buddy apper “ because she’d often heard her parents saying “where’s the bloody zapper”

Another new series to watch – Perfect Couple directed by Susanne Bier (Bird Box and a load of Dansk films) and starring Nicole Kidman as rich American woman (as usual)  and various other well known actors in other roles Bono’s daughter from Bad Sisters (forgot her name), the cosmetic surgery nightmare that is now Isabelle Adjani and others. Enjoyed the first one.

Sue them till the pips squeak. Don’t be squeamish about the personal injury even if minor, that’s just the rules of the game and they are the ones upping the ante, you’re well justified in retaliating within the law.

For future reference, is there a specific insurance for cycling-related problems? British Cycling? Or just ask your household insurance?

Yawn. I think I’m done here. Some folks think there is some nuanced context where dangerous dogs running out of control is ok. Others don’t. Nothing more to be said, really.

Can you guess Uppsala is my home town?

Cool. And V-Dala was my “nation” :-)

I thought false equivalencies were not allowed on the thread?

i was just checking to see if you’d managed to understand my incredibly sophisticated and nuanced approach.

The dog is not ultimately to blame here.

Mods, this is probably going to descend into a pointless spat at this stage, probably worth locking it sooner rather than later :D

nuances of the context would affect people’s views.

No, the fact that a dangerously out of control dog was the property of a depressed alcoholic does not affect my view of how the dog should be dealt with. Happy to clear that up.

That kind of thoughtful and considered response has no place here :D

Im sure the parents of the child bitten by the Dalmatian will be sharing your appreciation for a compassionate and nuanced approach.

    DrJ

TJ and DrJ, both of you seem to be ignoring this, or are you saying that the situation resulted from the dalmation not being under control and it is therefore responsible? Genuinely asking for clarification rather than for arguments sake here.

    Yes. No Dalmatian, nobody bitten.

(as another aside, I often wonder if those who always call for dogs to be put down also support the death penalty for actual people)

Dog owner logic on full display.

The guy potentially needs help, and this might be a small step towards him getting that if there’s any shred of self reflection left in there.

And in the meantime if someone gets bitten, or a cyclist gets concussed, then just too bad.

If you get bored with Stockholm (?!) you could take a day trip to Uppsala- sort of Swedish Oxford/Cambridge town.

As furious protesters take to the streets, Netanyahu may well have reached his political dead-end | Alon Pinkas

What does he say about furious protestors storming a prison to demand the release of soldiers accused of torturing prisoners?

An article in The Lancet estimates that nearly 200,000 Palestinians have been killed, directly or indirectly, by the Israeli war on Gaza. But yeah – self defence.

so initially at least a ‘chat’ seems most likely.

Well, that’ll be a big consolation to the parents of the next child that gets bitten. Really, I’m shocked that violent attack by an out of control animal should be so normalised that a “chat” is deemed an appropriate response!!

went down the lambs wool route when searching for the same criteria earlier this year

Sorry mate but you really talk some shite if you think that the UK’s Foreign Secretary publicly announcing the the UK government believes there is a risk of “serious violation of international humanitarian law” by Israel will have no bearing whatsoever on US policy towards Israel.

i hope you’re right – we will see. In the meantime, how many deaths in Gaza today ?

What is definitely a fantasy is your tediously repeated claims that the zionists don’t care about international condemnations

How many Palestinian lives has this worthy condemnation saved? How many mouths does an ICJ statement feed?  Israel is supported 100% by the world’s superpower. A lot weaker regimes have pursued their genocide unhindered so pretending that Israel will behave differently is, well, fantasy.

t’s worth everyone looking at the latest protests in Isreal.

The Israeli public have had many opportunities to get rid of Netanyahu if that’s what they actually wanted to do, but he has been consistently democratically re-elected.

But the public declaration by the UK government that it considers there is a real risk of a “serious violation of international humanitarian law” by Israel will be a real blow to the ‘most moral army in the world’.

Fantasy. They don’t give the smallest damn what the UK government or population think. They will continue the genocide project unaffected.

40mm Apple Watch SE is £219.00 – how much less do you need it to be?

Was about to say the same thing. I have an SE and despite being a card carrying Apple fanboi and gadgetoholic I haven’t been able to justify upgrading.

Like most of STW I am reading Nicole’s book. Shocking!! I am interested by her warm words for ESCA (BSCA) as that was something my dad was heavily involved in. At the time it was just some obsession that my mum and I were annoyed by, but in retrospect maybe he is forgiven. A bit :-)

in the old days in the oil patch, when we looked at paper seismic sections, we stuck them to metal walls with strong magnets. They make perfect fridge magnets for fixing shopping lists, photos etc, once liberated from their original owners.
