i did a tour on my Langster a couple of years ago with a couple panniers and what i found was that the main issue was the 23mm tyres. you could do with bigger but a Langster frame won’t take much if any bigger.

when we go off now fixie touring, we have Ortlieb bar bags and a wee seat pack, that does just fine. I run 48×19 and the GF runs 44×18.

you want to replace your Salsa Casseroll with a Kafenback? i’d really not bother fella, the salsa is a much nicer frame and ride for sure.

get some good caliper brakes, Tiagra or higher and have them set up well, you really don’t need anything more than this for the road.

if its just looking tired and you do want a new bike, why not get the frame resprayed?

    just my two pence worth.

just know that a dedicated tourer will feel ace fully loaded but fairly wooden when not. a good, light tourer or Audax will be fine, all of the above would work. also, what about a Tricross?

are you not supposed to be on Honeymoon Shep?

OT – sure a nice steel frame would be fine, but you never know what its going to be like until you’ve ridden it yourself? i mean, a good review is all dandy like, but when your on it, it may feel like a 5 bar gate?! 8O

i ride steel though, love it. :D

anything that is not Track geometry or a new wave fixie and you’ll be fine.

if its cheap but good and strong you want, either a Paddy Wagon due to the steel frame and guard eyes or a Langster as for that money, nothing is lighter.

if is cool points, then a steamroller everytime but once the frame is bought and fitted out, your nearly talking double the money on a Paddy?!

i’ve been through 5 ss/fixed road bikes and always needed something more than than current one gave me. first was too small plus a track bike, second was too Cross, third was uncool and had no guard eyes, fouth had guard eyes, was cool, rode well, but too small for me and the Surly Steamroller is the fifth and cock on :D (but i have to have raceblades )nothing is perfect.

Try the Butchers in Keswick on Station Street, really very good.

i’d say with out a doubt, you have to serve Heardwick lamb of some sort. Try Joe & Hazel Relph in Borrowdale to buy meat, they aslo do awesome Heardwick burgers for the BBQ? you could make a nice Lamb Henry/Jennings?

For fish? Trout for sure, Boothes in Windermere or Keswick will have it.

the foodie shop at Rhegged has loads of local meats and cheeses also, very nice too. :D

and you have plenty of BEER to choose from, i’d go for either Snek Lifter or the Chocolate Stout from the Last Drop Inn in Cockermouth.

well i care?! i used to think tan walls looked $hite but now, after seeing bikes at NAHBBS with them on, my view has changed. i’d like to see how those Charge tires ride but not for 60 notes.

i’ve done it loads on that very set up, you’ll be fine. However, on the South loop, you have some tight switch backs that require some skill on wagon wheels plus there is a long fire road climb that is just the other side of the perfect ss climb. Do the Blue then the North then the South loop, it saves the best till last. Try the Carrot cake in the cafe too. x
