I ordered some end caps last week, they arrived on Monday and I got the dispatch email today.

I’m happy enough with that given the current circumstances.

My 2014 Charge Plug was marketed as an all road bike and came with 28c tyres. Stock rims were Alex ATD 490.

They were fine on cycle paths, forest roads etc if a tad uncomfortable.

I can also fit 35c in my frame. Honestly the 35c Gravel Kings are much nicer off road as they’re more comfortable and provide more grip, but if you’re only spending 15% of your time off road I’d not worry too much, maybe size up when you’ve worn out what’s fitted.

Mine also arrived this morning. It’s a good size and seems like it’ll easily fit everything I’m wanting to take out on a ride. Cheers for the PSA.

Work out how much your are saving on diesel…

I’ve already spent the saving on a frame from Planet X…

Drewd – go on do it. Even if you get a little one. They are not a gateway drug honest

My brother and I used to have a Lunchbox, Midnight Pumpkin and the Hornet that we bought as a job lot from someone who used to race them. I’ve seen firsthand how this hobby escalates.

I’ve also had a Monster Beetle and Tamiya Mondeo in the past. I sold the Mondeo last year and gave the remnants of Lunchbox and the Hornet to my brother. The rest of the stuff has long gone.

I’d love a trail truck as they look useable everywhere and I love that they have metal chassis. I’d also love a short course truck if I had space to use one.

I’m just going to admire other people’s builds, my spare money is currently being spent on bike parts.

Anyone running a rigid carbon boost fork ? I’m looking at building a fast’ish xc type job. If so what you get ?

Planet X do their own Selcof carbon forks

They advertise it as a bundle with the Scandal and Whippet.

    That 2CV looks fantastic!

I’ve been keeping tabs on this thread for a couple of years and have somehow resisted buying anything. It’s been great seeing all of the builds on here though.

Runnng 29s. 2.3 DHF and Agressor. Seems good so far. First time using the Agressor. Usually run DHR2 or Ardents on the rear. Feels as quick as an Ardent but better cornering and braking grip. I like it.

With regards to the rear axle, I carry a Topeak Hexus anyway which luckily has an 8mm Hex on it.

Ah ok, cheers. I remember seeing the Durocs last year but they were 27.5.

Sun ringle Duroc 35s on my big dog. £135 from CRC but now out of stock

Are you running 29er or 27.5 plus? And what size tyres are you running? I am trying to decide between the two.

My Big Dog arrived yesterday. I had a go at fitting the headset last night but was struggling with it and getting annoyed so gave up and had a beer instead. I’ll try again later.

I need to source some wheels but everything else will come off my current bike.

Surely someone has the approximate weight of a complete build

Hannah did a quick video on her MK4 on Facebook recently, I think it was last week. From memory I think it was 14.3kgs. However if you’re building one up from a frame set I’d imagine you could bring that down a bit.

The Big Dog is tempting at that price.

I’m sure there’s at least one on the Scandal thread with 650b+ tyres, not sure what rim/tyre though. There’s acres of room with a 29×2.4 though

Cheers, I’ll take a look. I’m fairly sure they take 2.8, but all my plus tyres are 3.0.

I noticed this bundle went live yesterday and was hoping they’d do one on the Big Dog.

As others said the frame was £300, frame + carbon fork was also £300 and frame and Rockshox 35 was £400 yesterday. Everything seems to have gone up a few hundred quid!

The frame and headset bundle is great value though, can’t deny that. Does the Scandal take 27.5 3.0 tyres?

I should have bought this yesterday, it’s gone up to £15 now.

And I’ve felt guilty over wanting to go out after a day’s work after cycling the commute, haven’t so far as I’m being sensible but if people are going to take the piss then why should I behave?

Because you are responsible for your own actions, not other peoples. Just because other people are taking the piss it doesn’t make it acceptable, and it certainly isn’t the right thing to do. If it were acceptable it wouldn’t be taking the piss.

I’ve a set of Kinesis Crosslight rims that are 19mm internal. The sticker on the rim states recommend tyre width 28mm – 62mm. I’d happily run 28s on a 20mm internal width rim.

@binners Not sure if you were offering them to me or the OP, but if the OP isn’t interested I’d happily take the 27.2mm off your hands. It’d be good to have for spares for when mine does crap itself.

In all honesty I only bought the XFusion as it was cheap and there aren’t many 27.2mm posts available. If I was buying new I’d just buy a Brand X, but the XFusion allowed me to try a dropper on the cheap.

I’ve got one of the original 27.2mm HiLo posts that I bought off here as spares/repairs. I got a seal kit from Bounce Suspension as they’re local to me and rebuilt it.

There used to be some XFusion HiLo videos on Vimeo, not sure if it covers the post you have but it might be worth watching them and pulling your post apart to see if the internals look similar. If so, buy a seal kit and rebuild it, or get rid of it.

Mine has been ok for a year of light use.

    No worries.

Just noticed a typo in my last post though, the Pine Mountain 1 has a 110 x 15 boost hub, not 100 x 15.

    drewd

The Pine Mountain 1 (which I own) has the same frame as yours, and comes with a Rockshox Recon RL 120mm. It’s a 51mm offset 29er/27/5+ with a boost 110 x 15 thru axle. The Pine Mountain 1 does have a 100 x 15 boost front hub, so you would need a different wheel or a new hub in your wheel to make it work.

I’d expect most 29er boost 120mm forks with a 51mm offset should be ok.

If you did get another wheel or hub where the hub uses interchangeable end caps you’d be able to switch between thru axle 15mm end caps for suspension forks or QR end caps for the boost QR rigid forks. Same applies to the rear converting from 148 x 12 boost thru axle to 141 QR boost, just swap end caps.

    Awesome, that looks great.

I’ve just started learning the basics of astrophotography, and astronomy in general. My local university have been running some astrophotography workshops where we’ve learned the basics of equipment, selecting targets and what the software does. This month is the final workshop, where we process some data images into a final image.

We were lucky in that there are knowledgeable people on hand to offer guidance, and we’ve been able to use the university facilities, including their telescope for the imaging and their computers for the image processing.

On One Scandal frame? It’s currently on offer with a carbon fork for £300, and designed around a 120-130mm fork.

We have a Philips Air fryer. it’s essentially just a very small fan assisted oven.

I’m glad I only paid £50, as it doesn’t really do anything I couldn’t already do in the fan assisted oven we already have. It’s possibly cheaper to run, never checked.

I’d probably buy the Tefal Actifry if I was buying again.

I’ve got the Halfords ones. They do flex a little, but hold the bike securely enough.

I’ve got a baton to rest the wheels on for one bike, but not the other. The baton helps to stabilise the bike, but doesn’t really take any real weight.

Anyone in the Preston/Ribble Valley area?

I need to get to Whittingham from Burnley tomorrow morning. Usually go through Simonstone, Read, Whalley, Copster Green, Ribchester and Longridge.

Alternative is M65,M61,M6 and off at junction 32 (M55 Blackpool exit).

Any idea which of the two is likely to be more realistic?

I’m in Longridge. I’ve only ventured out today to walk the dogs, but from what I’ve seen locally Ribchester flooded earlier, and the M6 was shut for a while from J29 to J31. Whalley had some flooding too, so I’d stick to the motorways if I were you.

Oh, compressors with a pump allow you to run air tools etc, if the compressor is big enough to cope. The smaller ones are useful for inflating tyres and having compressed air to clean things.

    drewd
    Full Member

The Aldi compressor isn’t a compressor as such, it’s a pump. It does deliver enough air to inflate tubeless tyres though. I had one, but it was really loud, so I gave it to my dad.

The compressors with a tank have a pump to pressurise air in the tank, the pump stops when the tank is pressurised. It’s basically a much bigger version of an airshot, but the pump pressurises the tank rather than a track pump.

    drewd

I’ve not used a commercial inflator but do have a DIY inflator made from a small welding gas bottle. It’s a similar size to an air shot and while it’s been fine for 26er and 700c gravel tyres I don’t think it would have the volume to inflate a plus tyre.

Every plus tyre I’ve used has gone up with just a track pump, they just seem to work better tubeless. That’s using Nobby Nics, Bombolonis and a Minion DHF.

Did anyone else see that big dog frames were £199 with an extra 25% off code late last night, or did I imagine it? Was it a case of late night post pub bike shopping or just planetx being planetx.

Btw if anyone wants one, the small orange is still £199, other sizes and colours full price. Extra 25% off is gone too, if it was ever there.

You didn’t imagine it, but it is just the small orange version on offer. They sent an email out in the week with an offer they have on certain frames as they have too many in certain sizes, and the Big Dog is included in that offer.

I agree with what’s been said. I’ve just built a set of RaceFace Arc24 which are 24mm ID. The Race Face documentation states a 38mm tyre can be inflated to over 65 psi, yet the max tubeless pressure for my 700c 35mm Gravel King SK is 60 PSI. I’m not likely to go above 45 PSI so I’d say they’re fine for gravel.
