Been awake for a while too.

    Looking forward to Summer :D

Hopefully first summer ride today. Need to find somewhere with hills though!

I don’t really think grown adults should be riding a 6 year old to school.

    Think of his back!!!!

For me my CX bike is purely a training / commuting tool.

I have more fun (by that I mean I can do a larger variety of things in more comfort) on my MTB. So it’ll have to be that one.

Would hate to see my CX disappear though.

Elfin – I am with you on this one.

So far all my suggestions about leaving it to the end of the summer to allow the trails to dry out and give us time to get some proper training in have been met with comments such as “Southern Softy” and “Wimp” and “you’re going to get beaten by a girl”.

Edit – Although that last option might not be too bad

Haha – fair enough Elfin, I’ve done a couple of long rides for those exact reasons. On this occasion I am training for the south down’s way double so I have a distance I know I need to achieve and this i sall part of doing that.

It brings a different kind of enjoyment setting yourself a target and hitting despite the odds.

Yeah I have seen the website,

that was the whole reason for setting ourselves the challenge. It went something like this:

“I’m bored of doing the trail centre thing. Lets do something else.”
“I live on the south coast, how about doing the SDW? We can do it over a weekend.”
    “OK.”

    a week later.

“Fancy doing the double in a weekend? Shouldn’t be to hard, it’s only 100 miles each way.”
“Why not, have to do some training though.”

    a week later.

    “HAVE YOU SEEN THIS[/url] SITE?”
“Er…. Where are you going with this?”
“Lets do it, plus I can’t do the whole weekend that we chose as I am flying out for a 3 month holiday to the exotic east on the Sunday morning.”
“Er… Ok. At least I can recover for the rest of the weekend!!!”
“Oh an dby the way I have a lady friend who does a lot of adventure racing who is going to join us.”
“Damn now I really can’t drop out!”

Elfin – Just accept it, you are to worried abou the potential consequences to just go for it!!!!

5lab – I am under no illusions that this is possibly going to be the hardest thing I have ever done. It is probably going to cause me to fall out of love with self propelled 2 wheelers for a lonbg time, but that is ok, I live near the beach, have motorbikes and the summer is coming!!!

The problem I have is fitting it in around work, I have been pushing the distance up weekly, next week it’s my aim to get 150 miles under my belt, so far with work commitments and everything I have been about 20 miles short of my previous targets (100miles and 125miles).

Plus I have a wedding to attend next weekend which knocks out Friday – Sunday as training days!

Have they always been there or did they just appear?

    er…..

No. I did a very small loop with the missus last October. That’s it.

    Hmmm.

    Oh crap.

The original plan (made before Chritmas) was to do it in the middle of April (2 weeks away)…. Having had a month long lay off over Jan/Feb due to a broken arm and a few weeks of no riding due to holiday, I thought I would use this as a test ride.

It’s looking a little more unachievable each day, the guys I am going with though are determined to do it, so maybe the pure will to finish will be enough.

ah well, it felt like a lot. Clearly the “hilly” south coast is not as “hilly” as I’d thought.

    Hmmmmm….

So recovery. I’ve already got it wrong, I was to tired to eat last night, pretty much fell asleep as soon as I got in.

I’ve had 3 pseudo weetabix (aldi brand I think) 2 cups of tea and 3 bits of toast. Got some protein shake stuff, but I have probably missed the useful window for that stuff!!!

Still, stomach is feeling less bloated than it has for a very long time!!!

Just been having a look on Map my Ride and apparantly there was a total elevation gain of 3284 feet.

Is that a lot or not?

I am currently sharing my commute between my bike, 15 miles each way, and my R1, 9 miles each way. I save myself no time if I leave before 8, but about hst an hour if I leave after. There is a lot of gear fact, but no more than cycing and only if I wear the full power ranger outfit.

As far as being dangerous goes, if you have any form of sense of set preservation and understand the need to keep an eye on traffic rather than doing the car driver thing of staring at the boot ahead, you’ll be fine! Plus I honestly think (where I live anyway) drivers are more aware than they were even five years ago.

And those young lads in their kevved out shit heaps, generally the first ones to notice me. Point of interest really, no real relevance!

The headache isn’t so much of a problem, but I get cramp legs which just makes the ride painful the whole time.

As good a night as I had it ruined today,a lovely day. Had so much to do today. I think that for me as long as the sky is cloudless or predicted to be cloudless I’ll be keeping off the sauce!

SfB – You are not missing out on much, would rather be out on my bike than wondering if I am going to start calling Ruth on the porcelain telephone.

    Also,

I believe the eggbeater series are probably the lightest ones out there, you don’t need to spend silly money to get a pedal which doesn’t weigh very much, ideal for road, would you be switching pedals between bikes?

    Woohoo.

Finally one I can add too. This photo was taken Tuesday morning, and shows Poole Harbour from Holesbay road. In the Background you can see the RNLI’s HQ and many lifeboats and to the right Sunseekers boat storage for fairly newly built boats (I think)

EDIT: Crap, I’m a week late

My bro went last year and suggested the course was suited to a short travel full susser since there was a lot of small but shortly spaced bumps…. The sort that make your teeth judder and shake you off the pedals as you go over them.

I’m taking a hardtail though, don’t have a FS yet otherwise I would take one.

Well that was easy. Half an hour with a decent file was all that was needed!

Unfortunately I may have got a bit carried away with the retightening of the bolt, though…. I may need to order a new bolt when I need to take them apart to service them properly!!!!

Another problem now, the girlfriends rear wheel needs a service, unfortunately I can’t get the bloody cassette off. I’ve even put a breaker bar on the cassette lock nut and extra length of tube on the chain whip to give me some extra leverage….

I play with these on a regular basis. In fact this exact one is the focus of my work right now, not my photo by the way.

There are a lot of pools in this country that are built for training and not competition.

Bath uni, Millfield… to name two that I know well. The only pools that I am aware of that are the right size are Sheffield, Loughborough Uni (not 100% sure) and Crystal Palace.

One of the reasons I was given for this is that the ASA tend to commandeer pools that are of the right length for competitions and training to the extent that the local populace suffer.

I have no written evidence to back this up though.

Cable disks on the CDF are good, they always stop me in time, rear will lock up but not easily. The front could do with a bigger disk, someone on here has put a 180mm on and apparently it is much better.

The front just seems to get tronger and stronger as you are braking, but doesn’t have the initial bite.

I would do the W2 first, I was so angry at myself for being so tired at the end as the descent is AMAZING…… But then so is the one at the end of Skyline (The only bit worth doing in my opinion)……

    Hi Guys,

sorry, had a really hectic weekend. Will try and get something up before I head off to Rome on Thursday.

I did them on consecutive days and am sure it was the sole reason for riding into a tree on the last descent of the day on day 2.

    I was so tired.

Ditto with mine, I bought them in October, should probably try and send them back.

Are there any equivalents that work better? They were literally the best things I owned until they lost the waterproofness.

I asked the same question about 4 months ago. Here is the thread.

In the end I bought a croix de fer, it’s amazing. I love it.

knocked my commute down from over an hour to just under, it was all the bike!!!

Cheers guys, used everything there and not only did it solve my mothers problem, but it also seems to have improved the performance on my laptop.

    STW strikes again :D
