This is exactly what happened to me 2 years ago.

The police offered me the option of a prosecution as it was very clearly, in their eyes, the drivers fault. However I didn’t push for prosecution as he held his hands up and admitted full liability, although his insurers managed to push 15% of the blame onto me.

It’s still not resolved. I am not entirely sure why.

I’ll add these to my list of bikes for consideration! how about a Canyon Nerve 9.9 at £2199?

Lol – Well all my bikes with soul are going to be stored in the same place, so maybe they can teach it.

I’ve had a look at them, nice bikes but a it pricey for me.

I’d prefer big wheels, I don’t mind full bounce or hardtail, I may even consider rigid…

I should also have clarified that I am after a full bike rather than just frame.

The F29 looks good, but twice my budget :-(

That article is interesting, not sure whether ireland is closer to Belgian fields or South African trails. Gut feeling suggests belgian fields though!

I also think adventure racing has less restrictions for bike type than normal XC races so I’m not overly concerned about that. But I will double check.

I was gonna say, I normally decend in the drops on my cross bike.

But I do worry about going over the bars, it’s never happened though.

    DanW,

I’d be interested in getting some details about that Scalpel…

My email is in my profile.

I’ve been teasing myself with Cannondale’s F-SI offerings.

But that scalpel is a lovely looking bike! Am I right in thinking the scalpel is an XC focused FS?

    Those bikes are lovely!

Sounds like there are some reliability issues with the 29er version. Anyone had a wonderful experience with one?

    Lol :)

    Haha,

If the hanger is bent then that means I need a new bike.

I’m already hatching a plan of buying an XT groupset, buying a new 29er (mid range, with a good frame) to have as a quality XC bike then transfering the OEM parts across to the 26er to build up a bouncy bike to use when I’m in the mood for less distance more jumping.

    Thanks rocketman,

Hmmm… To stay with 9 speed or take the plunge then…

    Thanks guys,

I am currently running full shimano set up and am happy with it. Up until this point it’s been robust enough for me.

Other than giving money to a different company, are the benefits of moving to SRAM limited to the “feel” of the gear change? Anyone noticed better performance in mud or cold for instance?

These are all good suggestions that I’ll be following up.

Has anyone got any ideas on going to 11 speed with my wheels? I don’t follow trends so much, but when I do make a leap I try and go for the absolutely latest working on the theory I won’t need to change for years to come.

Admittedly my jump into RR didn’t go so well.

    Thanks Mr P

I didn’t realise that. Well that is a lot cheaper than a whole new groupset!

    Still considering a 29er, been a few years since I got a new MTB…

    Thanks Rocket man,

I haven’t checked the hanger to be fair, so I’ll do that when I get home.

The mechs on CR don’t seem to be rapid rise, so I’ll need new shifters as well in that case.

That’s what I was hoping to hear.

    Excellent :-)

But they do have a good reputation (as do the other firms I’ve contacted)

aracer – they fall in line with everyone else, industry standard.

olddog – I don’t have anything like that.

Haha, oh God, I hadn’t thought about that.

I’m gonna have to give them all a ring again and pose that question.

    Thanks Project!

    Things I’ve learnt,

All solicitors are now asking for success fees from their clients.

    Why?

The government have changed the rules as of 1st April 2013.

Now there is a financial limit to what can be claimed as costs from the other side, the shortfall is expected to be made up from the awards given by the court / settlement.

The following limits apply to success fees:

    1. Cannot exceed 25% of the total award / settlement.

    2. Cannot exceed 100% of the value of costs recovered from the other side.

To make up for this extra burden, the courts have apparently increased the value they place on injuries. Therefor I will be paying a success rate, unless (as in on eof the cases I mentioned above) the solicitor has waived his / her right to it.

Just thought you might like to know.

Well the firm with the large success fee came recommended from another cycling related organisation.

I didn’t look at bikeline, will have a look now.

Plus there is the argument that if they are going to recieve a proportion of the award they’ll work a bit harder…

This used to happen to me at Uni,

Having spoken to various people it came down to the fact that every person on the payroll cost £’s whether they were active or not. It was cheaper to get rid and then reinstate than maintain them on the payroll.

When I say cheaper, I mean the lost time to staff and students doesn’t appear on the payroll bill so they were able to ignore it.

My knee injury is the first one I’ve had which has stopped me from working or having significant independence and I’m finding that it’s starting to really bother me.

I’m lucky that my parents have taken me back in, living on my own wasn’t really an option according to the phyios that discharged me.

Was just in the process of going into self employment having finished a fixed term contract and (finally) handed in my thesis. So I’m sat around just waiting to heal! When I should be out working with clients. Alas the sort of work I was going to be hired to do requires me going to a clients site and since i cant drive… It’s very frustrating.

I was thinking long term change.

I was taken out by a van in February, luckily only my knee cap was destroyed and is now being held together by wire.

I was told that it’d be coming out at some point other wise I’ll never be comfortable kneeling down.

All these other injuries are making mine look a bit tame, but then I seem to go for quantity rather than quality of breaks! I worked out the other day that I’ve been in a cast on average once every 2 years since I was 16!!!!

Time to start looking after myself now I think! Anyone up for cottonwoolwrappedworld.com?

I have read the thread and there is a lot of useful advice.

I’m going to draft a letter to the insurance company, on Monday. My poor sentance structuring made it look like I planned to send it monday.

I want to draft it myself as I think it will help me clarify what happened and what I expect to be compensated for. I’ll then get this checked by whoever i instruct and go from there.

It may be a bit of a waste of my time (I’ve got plenty of that at the moment) but I hope it’ll put my head into a clearer state.

    Thanks guys

I’ve been writing everything I can think of down and have had a good phone conversation with the police.

I still need to get the bike back, but tgat shouldn’t be too much of a prblem, luckily it was my commuter that’s been trashed. I think it ended up under the vans front wheels.

I’m going to be drafting a letter to send on monday (to the insurers I mean), I don’t fancy paying premium rate phone charges to have my words twisted and then forgotten or mis typed by whoever is on the other end of the phone.

On the mend now though and hopefully no long term damage done.

Will they pay out for my legal costs if I do instruct a lawyer / solicitor? I assume they would, but making assumptions just leads to heartache in my experience.
