    I can’t remember when I last owned a chequebook.

Bloody hell were at Beadnell Towers? I can get 2 pints for £10 easily but also not have enough in other bars.

Anyway. I did a few hours behind the bar again yesterday, took over £100 all but £4 on card and it cost only a few pence in fees for the rest. Straight into the bank, no having to count up the takings and no shortages.

Last time I went to the back for cash they asked me to insert my card and PIN.

Maybe banks aren’t a thing for you, but for many they’re a lifeline. My mum goes in, the human beings know her and sort the cash out for her, she doesn’t need to do much at all.

Banks aren’t really a thing, the last 2 banks in the town I live will be gone by January. They are opening hubs a few days a week but that’s all. They’re just not used even older folks don’t as they use their cards or devices. No need to remember you PIN as it’s contactless.

Cashless transactions also cause problems for the vulnerable in society who might not have the necessary card, app, memory for a PIN number, etc. I’ve lost count of the times that my mum has had her card cancelled/PIN renewed

Must be a nightmare when get to the cash point and can’t recall their PIN.

It does the rounds every now and then. Usually it’s the pile of £50 notes and nonsense about it still worth £50 when various shops and trades have used it. Completely ignoring the fact it has to be declared and it costs money, time and trust to take the cash to a bank.

There’s a reason many places are now card only, it eliminates the risk loss, people spend more, practically everyone has a card or device to pay with and you don’t need to worry about having the right amount.

The bar I occasionally helped in sales rocketed when we added cards, it costs very little to run and use. The card sales or at least 90% over cash and people rarely even mention cash.

Many years ago the unions did their normal of trying to block something that was being brought in to protect staff and patients, CCTV in ambulances. They spread scare stories of how managers would be watch the footage looking for stuff to pin on staff to sack them. I mean after all that’s all mangers have to do is sit and watch cctv footage all day looking for a single mistake.

The reality is they are installed internally and externally, there are only 2 people in the service I worked for who have access. A manager can request access in the case of incident but only for the specified time period. What has happened is the footage has caught thieves, provided evidence of assaults in staff and vandalism to vehicles and equipment. It has prevented false claims against staff and only in a very tiny amount has it been used for cases against staff.

There are signs and a voice recording to inform staff and uses that it is present.

All good and the unions suddenly became in favour.

I’d go for one of what I was told was called a “Japanese Bullet Train style” roller

Yeah that’s what I used for my Global knives, worked ok.

I had a set of Global knives passed them on to my brother, they’ll be at least 20 years old now and still going well. Changed to Richardson which I found a huge improvement, used a ceramic sharpener for the global but switched a a whet stone made a huge difference. I recently purchased a Damascus  Japanese knife, it’s insanely sharp so will be trying out my roller on that when it arrives.

Terrible why? Somewhere on here there’s a professional butcher who uses, and recommends, drag through ones.

Butcher’s tend not to use a chef knives for chopping up a cow.

Funnily enough I just ordered one this morning, I have a whet stone which works great but tempted by the ease of use of rolling sharpener. I’ll be testing it on one of my cheaper knives first.

I ordered some new walking shoes at the beginning of the week, said 2-3 day delivery.  They arrived the next day by parcel force.

Not sure if that has any relevance to the UK or not.

But to suggest that you have the same passcode permanently seems odd

I’ve only changed mine when they moved from 4 digits to 6, the first 4 digits are the same the my previous 4.

Am I alone though thinking that it’s a bit odd that this blokes partner didn’t know his passcode, he didn’t have biometrics set up or have her as legacy contact?

    Probably.

As mentioned Apple is your only hope, biometrics will not work.
