Sorry, if this is a moan-thread, but do the Bob/gorrick trail building team know what they’re doing? Let me re-phrase that, do they have any specific trail building qualifications?

I only ask because after having looked over some of the sections they’ve ‘rebuilt’, does (apparently) mixing sand and clay to spread over the top of the trail really do any good? I can’t see how this is helping maintain anything, other than look pretty… Sorry but where’s the actual hardcore dumping thats needed (all be IMHO)… To be honest, I can’t really understand the no riding in the wet either.. This is Swinley ffs… It rains, sometimes alot! and now you’re telling me not to use certain trails when its been raining?

I pay my yearly fee, but yer having a laugh aren’t you? And where’s the evidence of all the recent harry potter trail closures with the alledged added income coming in to help with the trail upkeep?

Oh and I guess for my credentials of being a ‘local’I’ve been riding there for about 7 years and lived in wokingham for about 6. I rarely go out there during the w/e as its so crowded… It really has picked up… and thus (IMHO) the need for ‘better’ trial upkeep, if you’re going to do it at all…

    Just my twopenneth I guess….

I guess it really depends on your level of base fitness, whether you are going to compete or complete it.. Whats your aim? And have ya’ done one before or first time?

Its been a few years since I lived there, and I know the old landlord has passed away, but the new inn at hookagate (south west-ish from shrewsbury on way to church streeton)… Used to be really good food and good beer too (tim taylor landlord as regular guest ale).. But like I said, new owner and I know nothing about that now…

Don’t forget that lipo’s if you go below their 3.0 or 3.1v per cell then they are effectively f*cked and may well go ‘pop’, not something you want on your helmet or in your bag..

Most modern RC car speedo’s have this lipo cut off built in. I guess you could add the circuitry to the DIY light,(can be bought as a separate unit too), but I guess thats what puts some folk off…

Perhaps it also depends on 'which' ligament/tendon… mine was the pretty big one down the side of yer leg and ankle…
Like I said, seek further medical advice, yer GP should be relatively 'informed' (I hope!)..

    Good luck!

Depends on what you actually had done… I'd seek further medical advice if I were you… Been given a physio yet? Ask them? Like I said mine involved cutting and so needed the time to recover properly..

Oh and 3 months on crutches REALLY builds upper body strength, (but also gave me a bit of hand nerve damage. Long car jourenys and I still get buzzy hand syndrome) but the op was well over 6-7 years ago now).

Hi there I had the peroneal tendon (outside of ankle) re attached and placed under some of the smaller ankle ligaments and theose screwed back into place.

And yes, I was 3 months non weight bearing! It takes time for the cut ligaments to re bond to the bone around the screws due to the poor blood supply! Air-cast, think yerself lucky, I had a full cast on for that time my calf shrunk soo much it was crasy when they took it off!

On the plus note the ankle has been solid ever since and niever given way ot the tendon moved out of place. Meant I could put enough training in to do an ironman and go snowboarding without any pain.

Only bike issue I was that I ran without SPD's for a few months before I got the ankle upto strength.

Oh and get to love yer stairs, excentric calf raises are where its at!!

I have an '09 Hemlock, and love it. Did the transRockies on it in august. I had one rear end 'go' but was due to the faulty assembly of the swingarms. Cotic replaced the part FOC with one with the correct washers. Since then, the whole back end issue has totally gone away.

Also to be fair to Cotic, look at their news page and their reply to the above mentioned mag 'issue'with the warped seat stay. I think Cy clearly disputes their 'appraisal' of the situation and very generously (imho)agreed to disagree.

Seriously my advice is try one… And the customer service is second to none.

Oh one more thing, I still roade bike too, but no more triathlon or running, its that that caused the major impact on the disc according to my physio and Drs…

    Hi Woodey,
Had similar issues to you for most of '06. Saw physio regularily and was about 85% 'fit' and biking when helped a mate move house, twisted sideways and massive prolapse occured. MRI scan showed over 1/3rd of spinal canal filled with inner disc material. Total agony. Saw one Dr who wouldn't op, then finally found another 8-10 weeks later. Had the op to scoop out and shave off the inner disc material in dec '08. 3-4months slow recovery and then constant building up of core stability. Pilates has been great. This year I entered and completed the transRockies. Biking for between 8-10h a day for 7 days.

Result. And I can still ride a hardtail, but only for about 3-4h max. I've also found those MX kidney belts they sell on CRC really useful… Good luck… I think once you've got a prolapse and a weak point its always there. Mine needed the surgury to really get it sorted. There are now days when I'm not even sore or stiff in the mornings!

When I as looking for a square taper SKF BB, SKF themselves told me that middleburn were the new distrib/importers… So even if they've not got one in stock, they should be able to get one pretty darn quickly I'd have thought!

I've heard that has worked for peeps in the past… And use the camelback as a back protector so both hands are free… If yer clever I reckon you can tie the handlebars/front wheel out of the way too.

I think we may have to incorporate 'several' of the above methods! a change is as good as a rest and all that!

    John,
Who’s stopped making them? Middleburn are the new distrib for SKF.. Give middleburn an email and they might be able to help you out… Seems very odd that the new SKF distrib makes cranks that no longer fit what SKF produce!
