Tom,
I agree that some people will take a bike and expect it to do everything and then when it breaks they are to blame if they have pushed a bike way beyond its limits! however..that was down to my pure stupidness not to a bike that isnt fit for purpose
If the bike has been damaged by the use of the wrong type of forks causing mechanical failure of the frame, people might not see this damage and then they might be using the bike for the purpose it is designed for and suffer a bad injury, this is a nice bike and it wouldn’t be unreasonable for you to attempt a black trail on it and the thought of something going wrong is not a good one. I assume you would be out of pocket with this an that is a concern! but it would be better if you were to give a bit of history on this, you don’t have to tbh you could sell on ebay without any of this but then again i trust people on this forum (who knows why i don’t really know you all) and i think that this is maybe abusing such trust? given i know there are members who have given you help in the past.
dr_adamsFree MemberI live in nottingham normally…
Ed’s biggest downside to you i would say is the extra year? but what a place to spend it. I am not as well versed on the uni league tables these days but i would have put bristol above notts and both above here. Edinburgh has a great reputation, 27th best in the world, and we have a lot of yanks come here because of that rep and they have never heard of any uni uni’s you name bar Cambridge and Oxford, so its status is grand and in some respects it does deserve it, Dolly the sheep was cloned by a professor still teaching here! The royal college of surgeons is based here! i hear the electrical engineering research is amongst the finest in the land!. Now to the mechanical engineering… Bugger! The first year at ed in engineering is the same for mech, civil, electronics (i think) and so it is covering the basics and given decent alevel grades it is a good starting place to get you settled. but the engineering facilities are not comparable to other unis. The practical equipment is not the most modern against what is being used in other uni’s nevermind industry, Ed does have great interest in renewables and is a leader here but not really on a level that will affect you as a student. The uni does teach management well, and given that is where most engineers are destined…Not trying to be gloom and doom, and i am certainly not alone in these feelings, Are you planning B.Eng? or M.eng?
dr_adamsFree MemberI adore Ed as a city is outstanding, the Uni, i fear has lost its way with a few things and engeering is one of them…
where you coming from?
where else have you applied?
Theres a really good uni cycle club, very active and travels a lot. The uni provides cycle sheds at halls but only outdoor railing type clamps at most uni buildings, i have my fs hidden away but my trip into uni is done on an old SS (is walkable, and tbh you will prob walk with friends most of the time, just i have to go at random times alone for projects)dr_adamsFree MemberLOL – I am just about to grad from Mech eng at edinburgh…
means you have to get abb in your subjects,
they specifiy it as if you were say doing another alevel – art for example then you could get ABBE with the E in math, and in you would meet a criteria of ABB, but they are specifing you have to use Math in you ABB.. and then the same with the second subject…you don’t want to ask my opinion of Edinburgh Uni, not if you are planning to come here!
In all seriousness if you want to know anything please ask, I am also a warden in pollock halls, so if you have any specifics please ask or email.dr_adamsFree Memberdepends on if you want them… would you buy them if he weren’t selling them? it about what they are worth to you!
dr_adamsFree MemberIs it wrong that I look at that last pic of teetos and my first thought is “I dont recognise that bike” ?
No me neither… i think its the wig?
dr_adamsFree MemberWhever i have known someone get a bike sprayed it is always best to leave bearings in, the alternative is to remove them now and then have massive issues trying to get new bearings into a paint covered hole! Which bearings are you worried about removing? given that they will be old bearings there should be no issues with damaging the bearings to remove them if they are especially annoying but it is the best way to do it!
dr_adamsFree Memberwould recommend a good materials course… from experience mechanical engineering is not truely wha you are looking for!
dr_adamsFree MemberIs there different air chamber versions? i thought there were different pro pedal tunes and also a high volume and a low volume can.. but you would see all of that from seeing the shock in question?
dr_adamsFree Membernever heard of these before, but looking at them and they look a good idea, how could they force crap into the seals? they appear to be loose fittingm so forcing anything seems odd? certainly seem a good idea to stop random kicked up crap from hitting the shock?
dr_adamsFree MemberShops like Evans have an Arse-ometer for measuring the width of your ‘sit bones’, to identify the right width of saddle
If i were to suggest a trip to evans, do i just ask for saddle measurements?
dr_adamsFree Memberthats useful to know! what is the “Riding of the Marches” anything worth watching?
dr_adamsFree MemberBut a rp2 isn’t lockable? its pro pedal, even says it on it? and you would think he/she would put which bike it is off? not meaning i agree they are stolen, more that they are not being sold by someone who knows their bikes… which would then lead you to question why they have said items for sale?
dr_adamsFree MemberI am newish to this site and was only drawn by the classifieds if i’m honest.. but i was drawn as i was buying not selling, i think all forums get the one time poster who maybe expects a reply within a day and after that doesn’t check back ever and i think we are more prone to this being a big forum. I read the forum a lot, more than post count would imply, and i tend to be wary if its a lot of money to a username i don’t know. Tho i did want to buy something off a seller who had listed an item 3 times previously and because i was looking maybe 2 weeks after it was listed it has never been seen by the seller.
DOH!dr_adamsFree MemberYes, looks to be two partitions, normal reason for this is that you put all your personal stuff on drive D and then if anything goes wrong and you need to reinstall windows you can do so and it will wipe drive C and leave D alone and so reduces risk of loosing important stuff.
dr_adamsFree Membermy lbs sold me 18 for £1, simple and sorted, even came with free advice on how to change them.
dr_adamsFree MemberIsn’t it known that the seals weep? hence why people put a lot more fluid into them when servicing? I believe you an change the seals to ones that leak less but they are more likely to wear the stanchions so its a bit of a trade off. I dunno about the travel issue but did it not get picked up with Mojo? did you mention it to them?
dr_adamsFree Memberdon’t people in caravans normally just “hook up” to the nearest lamp post? or is that just my experience?
dr_adamsFree Memberer… yes can you advise me of the make? never heard of them? would trat them as any other unknown brand?

cedit to ppl in this thread…
http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12616246&view=previous&sid=c3066515e00ea2a6fe2bb797a3bdee9eGoogle is so much fun!
dr_adamsFree Memberi am at the point of needing to do my bearings, have greased them like mad and they are noisy but will last for a while until i find a replacement setup, the point i would make is surely it would make more sense to get a bb that is easy to look after, i believe the expensive ones are and so would make it easier for you personally, the other option is to buy this and then maybe charge to fit bearings? I know BETD currently offer to fit if you buy from them but they haven’t answered my request on RF ones, and so there might be a market to get some back? but even then, i dunno if i would want to replace bearings for £20 + a labour charge when a hope bb is £60 and might last twice as long…
i dunno if that answers your question….dr_adamsFree Membermy kona is 27.2mm and i got a 26.8 and this did fit but was worried about the extra defomation on the clamp but it did fit without slipping…
dr_adamsFree Memberi thought it was the done thing to charge to sign such things? when i had my eyes tested for job they only didn’t charge as i was doing voluntary work, given dr’s charge to fill in passports and the like you would expect it.
dr_adamsFree Memberno the float R is different, the flot r i believe just has a lock out option, the rp2 or 3 have the pro pedal setting, but only have one setting the rp23 has three settings with a light medium and hard, i believe the difference between the rp2 and the rp3 is travel amount, but some one wise will come along soon with a decent answer, just i to me if you had a tuned shock and pro pedal, wouldn’t see why you would change it from one to other and i have seen rp2 for less than £100 on here but rp23 seem to go for close to £200 secondhand…
dr_adamsFree MemberRe: the above, my experience of the police (from that side of the fence) was that you didn’t pick your job, when a call comes in it is dealt with by the control room and the main duty inspector gives it the classification from red – urgent all guns blazing with flashy blue lights allowed, through to the bottom colour (i forget) which is police attendance not specifically required, (ones where they can give crime numbers over the phone or a support staff can take details). I have memories of being close to an incident but not being used a resource and instead units being sent from further away, and also there being some delay before receiving information on calls that come in, so some times it is not the officier who attends who is being idle, it can be issues with control, due to call handlers/ the duty inspector – btw this experience is in nottingham, i assume it varies from place to place.
dr_adamsFree MemberI might be wrong here, but the Rp23 is an rp2 that is set up with three pro pedals? if you’re getting it pushed for her weight and riding then you wouldn’t need the 3 propedal, and so in theory a much cheaper rp2 might do? and use the money to drop weight elsewhere?
dr_adamsFree MemberI have a N95, had it since it was first out and not changed the battery, i hardly use it but its always on and around me and i think its fine, was going to change to iphone but think its all hype for stuff i never use, the N95 works with tomtom if you sort it out but any gps stuff does strain the battery otherwise it can last 3 or 4 days without charging but is deffo one to die quickly but considering what it had it isn’t too bad, I don’t find the camera on it a problem..
dr_adamsFree Membertbh there is a serious side to this, but given some of the wonderful creatures that pass for human in this world i am not surprised. especially if drink is involved. I don’t go near such areas on bike unless necessary
dr_adamsFree MemberSee the thing tha puzzles me is, this kona bike i brought was for sale for ags… like an ice age and no one was interested, and it just seems weird, almost expect if it would have been a halfords special it would have sold quicker.
dr_adamsFree Memberthe suspension is interesting, as they have the single pivot thing, but the style and location of their suspension seems to have been back then what specialized has only moved to now?
dr_adamsFree Membercartridge bearings? checked they spin freely? checked bottom race is happy? if you sit the bearings on it does it look right?
dr_adamsFree MemberEconomics chappy said it was bad becuase normally its just the companies that are just about afloat that get hit and go, but they said this recession, lots of companies who are profitable are going, companies who make good money are seeing banks call in loans that don’t need to be called in and so companies are closing even tho they have full order books
