    The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan is one of my favourite albums by anyone, after that I would go for Highway 61.

    > ransos – I don't think Positively 4th Street is on any albums except compilations

    Found this Cyclists Welcome accommodation search quite helpful planning a trip recently, don't know how much it has for Aviemore

    I got lots of flats with the Speed Kings that came on my P7. The 'speed' part is right though.

    Changed to Panaracer Cinders, much better suited to my clumsy riding style… no more flats

    Now I write that down it looks like A LOT of riding. And a lot of driving. Not sure if I'm looking to do too much. I really want to do some natural riding, ideally with the aforementioned overnight stop in somewhere picturesque and it seems silly while in Scotland not to ride some of the trail centres.

    None of Witches, Laggan or Golspie are especially long routes – you could do as little or as much riding as you feel like these days.

    Fort William across to Wolftrax isn't much of a drive (about an hour I think?)

    I think Zerodown said it best in their hymn "Empty Promised Land"

    Because ego won't permit belief in our mortality;
    so we manufactured our delusioned lie;
    We believe with much conviction in our useless superstition
    that our lives are bigger than life.

    First time doing this kind of race, the course was great and good atmosphere like others have said. The many, many people who overtook me were very polite about it…

    Got a couple of pictures of the first lap starting:

    Hope you don’t mind me joining the group halfway through. I’ve managed every day this year but with some really bad photos along the way. Hope the group will give me some more inspiration!

    I’m intrigued as to how the phone ended up in the path of a vehicle, and was then driven over. Any more details?

    Thats a great explanation in the final paragraph on the blue page:

    “Through circumstances he finds himself at 29 with his contract expiring”.

    I must try that one sometime:

    “Through circumstances, I was not at work yesterday…”

    Entirely a matter of choice, but if you’ve got a helmet anyway I can’t see much reason to leave it at home while you ride to work.

    There were quite a lot of people making a racket up the hill when I was up there, impressed by the guy who brought a cymbal up with him.

    As other people have said the atmosphere in the arena is best if there’s a British rider really pushing for the win.

    The road closure is 10pm-6am, and not Saturday or Sunday nights.

    1. Three years pretty solidly, having done it a bit in the past. Short commute though, less than five miles unless I choose to make it longer.

    2. Never badly injured (so far…) I’m quite cautious and assume the worst of all other road users. I wave to drivers a lot and wouddn’t wear headphones riding on the road.

    3. Never knocked off. A few times I have avoided it quite spectacularly, like crashing into a wall to miss a minibus which turned across me (coming from the opposite direction) in Leeds. This year the score is one each between me and the pedestrians of Glasgow, I’ve knocked one down (chain jumped off/hit pothole/mounted pavement) and one has walked into me travelling quite fast.

    Not much reason to be unhappy about moving to Glasgow. Great place to live, just spend a bit of time picking where you’re going to stay, a couple of streets apart can make a big difference. As noted above like anywhere there are bad parts and good parts. The good stuff in Glasgow is great.

    Plenty of wee trails at lots of parks all around the city, more/bigger if you don’t mind a bit of riding to get there and loads of choice in all diretions within about an hours drive

    For Glasgow southside commuters, you’ve probably seen the big yellow signs but Eglinton Street is going to be one lane each way from Monday I think .
    Evening times link

    Might make it easier to get through the traffic if its all queued in one big line :D

    If you overtake a black hybrid with mismatched mudguards and a Comic Relief red nose on your travels, its probably me…

    Some estate agents will try to get away with calling everywhere Shawlands as it is probably the most popular area in the southside (and so probably the most expensive).

    Mount Florida I would say is just as nice but Shawlands has more shops, pubs etc

    Otherwise you seem to have picked out the nicer areas already
