and a certain scottish newspaper, i assume to mention the name is to break the injunction? has apparently published details, but it seems their website is down? Coincidence?

although I suppose if you were to google the name of “The Scottish Paper” and the word Twitpic…

    Mainland up to Oban (hilly?)

Don’t remember it being especially bad and I was on my mtb, knobbly tyres and all. Did it a couple of years ago though and bear in mind in my memory it was glorious sunshine:

I went the long way round by Loch Awe to get to Oban, don’t know if the ‘main road’ is more or less hilly

Wolftrax demo weekend is coming up, surely a couple of 29ers in there (in fact Niner is one of the brands, so definitely):

I tried a Kona Big Kahuna there last year, Kona not on the list this time though

I used an “Axiom Oddyssey Disc” rack which clamps on the bottom of the seatstays instead of using mounts

Not the most elegant (or probably lightweight) solution but never caused me any problems. No-brand pannier bags off Ebay did a good cheap job as well

5ft11 ish here with a 19″ which seems ideal for me. If you’re not sure obviously best thing is to try the different sizes if you can (I didn’t  )

Mine was my only bike for a while so used it for all sorts, even loaded up for a bit of light touring…

These folk should take a look at the new method of racing I have developed.
You race flat out, until you get weak. Stop for some cheese, pie, olives and sometimes smoked oysters. Wash down with the traditional Italian power drink of chianti.
Chill out and watch the race go by. Pack your rubbish back In your pack.
Then get back on your bike and race flat out.

where do I sign up? :D

How should i have uploaded that as a full size from Flickr by the way??

On the photo page go to “Share this > Grab the HTML/BBCode”, click the BBCode button, copy the text in the box and paste it here. You can choose the size as well.

Testing to see if I’m talking rubbish:

I’d like one just for commuting.

One person in each town/city with one of these and no one else will need any lights :P

Can I take my bike up the gondola?

Afraid not. The gondola and DH courses will be closed to the public from Monday 31 May to Sunday 6 June, so you’ll have to wait until around midday on Monday 7 June before you can take your bike up the gondola to use the Nevis Range tracks. The good news is there’s also the new Red run to play on, in addition to the World Cup course.

It is possible that there may be some access to the Red Run at specific times as part of the World Cup Bike Test. Check at the Singletrack Bike Test centre for further details.

had the same problem building up my ss a couple of months ago

i went out and bought a bigger spanner… and because i’m *really* clever, it still wasn’t big enough…

think in the end i wedged something against the two flat sides and managed to undo it, needed three hands really though. there’s probably a better way… like the right tool

Ernest Shackleton’s story of the South Pole was free last week or so – not sure if it still is…just started it but it’s rather good so far…

South: the story of Shackleton’s 1914-1917 Expedition

I’ve got that as well, there’s loads of old copyright-expired stuff available for free. Amundsen’s “The South Pole” is shorter but also worth a read

If you cannot be certain what is in your path, do you drive into that area anyway?

This, pretty much is my first reaction. To use a ridiculously overblown comparison, you wouldn’t stand in the street with your eyes closed and fire a gun, thinking it’ll probably be ok because you can’t see anyone in the line of fire.
