    From the Guardian article

“A spokesman for Top Gear said images taken by paparazzi made it look like the filming took place closer than it did in reality. He said all scenes were shot around 40 metres away from the memorial.”

I mean come on, 40m it’s hardly even in the same postcode…

I have a car allowance and on the rare occasions I need a car for work (once last year I think) I just hire one.

Some good choices but everyone has missed Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen.

    No.

And I’m still getting used to my actual MP saying things I fully agree with on subjects like this.

Used to happen quite a lot, not much recently, maybe I look angrier these days.

Some reference to Chris Hoy was quite common (I’ll take the compliment…), random abuse, random noises (“waaaaaaaagh”) and the strangest “your back wheel’s following your front wheel”.

Did it once, had to tell well meaning relatives and friends that I was with one or the other to stop an intervention. People will be aghast if you tell them, don’t.

Haha, yeah this. Thoroughly enjoy the day by myself sometimes, but other folk think it’s a big problem…

Fairly obvious I guess but somewhere like the Louvre you’re tourist-watching more than Parisian-watching. Depends what you’re looking for.

Not an expert at all but maybe th Latin Quarter (south of river from Louvre) might be quite interesting.

I’m not faster than anyone, and the older I get the more I really am just trying to get to work.

But I do have one apparently rare skill, I can clip in *while turning the pedals*. I always get folk on highly expensive bikes pulling in front of me at lights, and then setting off and trying to clip like they’ve lost all feeling in their legs.

Tbf, if the cops see a driver without lights and aren’t on a shout, they’ll normally stop them and issue spot fines and producers.

Good if that is the case. I think it’s just the same as lots of other things, it’s not practical to enforce all the offences out there (whether cyclists, drivers etc)

Fair enough. But could they consider applying a “producer” – show up at police station within 7 days with working lights? Maybe in conjunction with a smaller fine.

It’s arguably complete whataboutery on my part, but I reckon I see on average one car a week in proper darkness with no lights on. Same thing – I don’t really want them fined, just somehow make them use their lights…

I always struggle with universal sign language for “please put your lights on” (to drivers – I can just swear directly at cyclists) . Whatever I try ends up looking a bit inappropriate.

Some interesting claims about Scotland/SNP from JC on Marr Show today. Particular highlight was claiming that SNP privatised Scotrail…

It probably depends what the mix of on-road/off-road is going to be like. Not sure what your ‘drops’ are like – none of these are ideally suited for that, but in theory you can ride any bike on just about anything…

To me the Boardman looks best but I might just be swayed by the disc brakes. For longer distances on the road or good paths it will probably be the best out of those.

Pinnacle bikes are popular around these parts, more so the more expensive Arkose model but have a look at http://www.evanscycles.com/products/pinnacle/lithium-two-2015-hybrid-bike-ec071280

The word ‘stunt’ so beloved of the tabloid press is in my view innapropriate, as it suggests that it is a reckless or highly dangerous manoeuvre. A simple loop is neither if conducted properly. Clearly something went catastrophically wrong today.

Obviously the semantics are pretty irrelevant in the context of 7 people dying. But is there any practical reason for doing a ‘simple loop’ in a place. If not then it’s done just because it looks impressive. Oxford dictionary for stunt: “An action displaying spectacular skill and daring”.

Nibs can do what he likes h cause he’s a Frenchman in a French race fighting against a non French leader.

The Italian flag on his jersey is a good clue here.

Had you ever been on a train on Scotland before they banned drink? This was absolutely every passenger.

It’s only banned after 9pm or something, that leaves a lot of drinking time. Some trains south from Aberdeen are interesting, guys coming back onshore are quite enthusiastic drinkers.

So, when’s the magic going to happen and I’ll suddenly find I can run at an ‘easy’ pace without feeling it? Still too early

I reckon you shouldn’t be too far away from it. Once I’m fit enough to do about 20 minutes without stopping/walking it feels ‘easier’ and I can also just keep on running if my head’s right.

As others mentioned above – running up hills helps me a lot with overall running fitness, and makes me faster on the flat.

So most people will be able to get back from their bank holiday weekend, perhaps even eddiebaby. Excellent. What was the critical day hora was talking about then – tuesday ?

I guess even though the strike starts at 5pm, the trains might be cancelled all day Monday. Probably Sunday as well just to be safe.

… shut the network for a critical day

Critical? It’s planned for a Bank Hoiliday, you know …. when most people won’t be working. Which is obviously a lot less critical than a normal Monday.

24 hrs from 5pm Monday isn’t it? So a bit of the bank holiday and most of a normal Tuesday.

Commuting how? Loads of people do (drive or by train). Train journey from Falkirk is pretty short although there’s some serious disruption planned later this year while they electrify the line.

I know of people who commute by bike though it’s a bit much for every day.

Certainly there are good and bad areas but I reckon they’ll be pretty obvious.

The highest reading in Glasgow is from Hope St at Central Station. Almost all the traffic there is buses and taxis as private cars are banned

You can drive a car past the air quality monitor I think? You have to take the next left though, can’t go further up Hope St. You’re still right most of the traffic is buses & taxis.

Check the price of a one way van hire? Likely to be more than train/bus but maybe worth a look. Practical seem to have branches in Perth and FW.
