The whole thing was a bit weird and he obviously had father (dis)approval issues that he was trying to resolve.

Just over a year in my Kia EV6 and still love it. No problems so far and it’s lovely to drive.

The majority of charging is done overnight at home on the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff with the odd public charging session when on long trips. Just over 10,000 miles and total charging cost has been £203 home charging and £120 public charging.

First service was performed by the local Kia dealer last week. It took them about 35 minutes, and that included washing and vacuuming the car and taking a video showing me the underneath of the car!

It’s easy to do but can take a while.

Soften the wax in a pan of hot water before you start to make it easy to rub in.

I sent my 30 year old Barbour Border back to the factory for a repair and rewax a couple of years ago and it came back almost like new. I guess they spray the wax on and get a very even coating.

According to the Shimano description the G05A back plate is “Alloy for lightweight”.

Unless you’re a real weight weeny I doubt it will make any difference.

    @NewRetroTom

@dove1 what size tyre are you running there? I want to use with 40mm Maxxis Ramblers. Looks like they might be on the limit for Speedrockers

They are Gravelking SK 700×38 in the photo. 40’s should fit ok but you would have to do some careful alignment of the mudguards.

As PJ mentions above, SKS now do the Speedrocker XL. They will easily accomodate Ramblers.

I have run the normal Speedrockers with 650×47 tyres. OK for keeping most of the water at bay but hopeless in gloopy mud! ?

That’s hard news to handle. Just be there for him as a sounding board, helping hand when you can and a shoulder to cry on when needed.

Don’t forget to look after yourself as well. If any counselling is available to you, take it. It will help you and in turn you can hopefully help your dad.

    Cancer really can **** off!

Get a set of SKS Speedrockers. Quick and easy to fit and remove, effective and not rattley.

A few pieces of helitape where the pads and wraps touch the frame and forks and away to go. (You need to cut the stays to length first time you fit them.)

    I’ve been through this recently.

If it’s cartilage-related an x-ray will not show anything. However, due to the vagaries of the NHS system you cannot get a GP-referred scan unless you have an x-ray first. It’s a stupid way of doing things but the GP’s hands are tied.

My HRV is all over the place during the night.
It usually starts at around 40, drops to 20 then peaks at 60-ish and then varies between 20 and 50 throughout the night.
My overnight averages for the last 4 weeks are mainly 36/37 with a few dips down to 34/35. These figures put me right on the border between green and orange.
My body battery never gets anywhere near full and I start most days between 50 and 75.

@damascus – never had any trouble with the sliding dropouts. They are held in place by 2 chunky bolts each side plus a horizontal, nut-locked hex bolt to stop them sliding forward.

In true STW recommend-what-you’ve-got style, try and get a test ride on a Broken Road Ti if you are near an Alpkit shop.

Had mine since 2020 and it’s my favourite bike. It is a great all-rounder and I use mine for trail riding, big xc days and bike packing.

My temper. Too quickly and too often.
However, it’s usually short-lived and soon forgotten. Unlike my wife who rarely loses her temper, but when she does, it’s scary.

I’m in the same boat as you. I want carbon forks with cage mounts for my gravel bike but can’t justify spending about £300 on a pair.
My bike is metallic orange so the forks will have to be black, otherwise I’d seriously consider those Sonder forks on eBay.

Edit: borosilicate’s suggestion of a rattle can respray is a good idea. Hmmm?

Sizing is way out on the Spada trousers.
You need to take a couple of inches off the waist measurements quoted in the size guide.
Stupidly tight at the ankles as well. Bad enough getting them on in the dry. Will be a real struggle when wet and cold.

@susepic – I bought an Ohme Home Pro charger from Electricpoint and got a local installer to fit it. An hour to view the property and agree a cable route followed by a few hours to install the following week.

Then changed our Octopus tariff to Intelligent Octopus Go and it’s been fine.

I love the EV6. Really nice to drive, comfortable, more than fast enough if you put your foot down, loads of space.

SatNav is good, radio is good and everything just works.

I have the GT Line S so it’s got plenty of toys, inc. a really good head up display and excellent parking cameras.

Done just under 10k miles in it so far without any trouble at all. Range varies between 240-ish to 310-ish miles on a full charge depending on ambient temperature and whether heating or A/C is on or not.

I don’t get the use of the term ‘Woke’ in the post above.
I was under impression the term ‘Woke’ is to be informed, educated and conscious of social injustice and (racial)inequality, which to me sounds like a positive position to be in, yet the poster uses is as a insult.

That is what it means but the hard-of-thinking can’t understand that and believe it to be some sort of Communist agenda. Judging by a lot of social media posts they also think wanting to take care for those less fortunate than ourselves is Communist, caring about the environment is Communist and generally being a decent human being is Communist.
