It’s ok Kelvin, I’m only trying to play devils advocate but its hard to keep context on the thread because everyone jumps on the same point at the same time.

I’ve asked for my account to be deleted anyway, (not sure how that works) as I find replying to this thread is affecting my work and my life in general.

I’m a contrary person who likes to examine things from the sometimes unpopular side, it gets me in bother. However I am generally a pretty light hearted person, who’s willing to be proved wrong (maybe that doesn’t come across so well in written form).

    Thanks for enlightening me everyone.

    Is it?

How many prisoners getting an early release would you say is a “price worth paying” for absolute peace between two factions that had been blowing each other up for three decades? None? Your ‘murderers’ here were convicted for crimes that the GFA finally put an end to.

This came about from me explaining the position of the DUP, context lost as usual on this thread.

Are you saying the GFA has put an end to paramilitary violence and sectarian murder? You are wrong on that account.

Yes I don’t want to discuss it as I’ve already done it on this very thread, received the exact same answers and admitted I was wrong.

How do I own it Binners?

    What does that actually mean?

Does it mean “shut up and go away”?

Kelvin it’s sorted to my satisfaction to be honest, I’ve no problem with the Irish sea border and that was what prompted my post earlier.

Sorry Kilo I don’t understand? Is letting murderers walk free ok? I would have preferred an agreement withoit it to be honest.

Why do you think I “went along with the DUP”?

As an aside, you do realise the GFA involved the release of murderers from prison? Quite a reasonable reason to be against it BTW.

I voted for Brexit to remove a level of government, that was my reason for voting, nothing else. I don’t want to discuss that either as it has been discussed to death.

    It does

    Text of Belfast/GFA

Here’s the text, just point out where it does.

I see 9 matches for border, none of which say anything about a hard border, no matches for customs.

You’ve hit a vase with a hammer and are now standing there looking at everyone else and going “well, what are you going to do about it?” **** that, how would YOU solve it?

I mentioned a solution to the specific issue of companies not delivering to N.I and was ridiculed for it by Binners. It may not have been a great solution, fine, however as Binners was the one to ridicule me I asked him for a solution, for that specific issue.

Not the brexiteers appear to give a shit

There is a case for saying that the opinions of woolly faced murderers (New IRA) making threats to governments from their bedrooms, should be held in the upmost of contempt and shouldn’t form the basis of political decisions made by governments.

Which bit of Binners’ last post do you disagree with dougiedogg?

None of it, i’m just commenting on the repetitive nature of it, I’m pretty sure i’ve read the same statement 20x.

I think Binners is just posting “boilerplate statements” at this stage.

It’s actually quite funny how hypocritical Arlene is “ it is important that they realise that part of the United Kingdom is being treated differently” it suits her just fine when it’s political divergence from the UK on women’s rights, same sex rights etc, basically anything against the dinosaur-disbelievers creed.

Yes I was thinking this yesterday, we’ve always been treated differently.

Brilliant solution! Another triumph of Brexiteer logic!

Add another level of bureaucracy to process the rebates, then the taxpayer will have to provide a subsidy to private companies to compensate them for the costs they’ve now incurred by an act of utterly pointless stupidity that has no tangible benefits?

Anything else we should be subsidising, while we’re at it? Any more pointless red tape you’d like to add in to the mix?

    Sorry what?

That’s where we are, its an issue we have to deal with now.

Are we still harking back and bemoaning what we’ve lost or are we moving on?

How would you solve it Binners? Or do you deny that its an issue that needs solving?

    dougiedogg

I can’t understand how the government can’t just provide a rebate of extra costs incurred to ship to N.I.

    Is this not simple.

Value of sales to N.I – extra average % cost = rebate

Edit, I suppose the question is who pays for it?

Politicians saying they’re going to sort it, and it actually being sorted are very different things.

As I understand it, the main issue, which was around groupage has had solutions put in place, there has been no recent reporting by BBC etc. on the issue. The month old article posted in “linky” were business issues which were being dealt with by the companies listed in the article.

There’s no date on that ‘linky’ article but it looks to be a month old. The embedded Tweet is dated 7th of January and the article quotes business talking about expecting deliveries later in January.

Binners’ sky quote was out of date then, and needlessly posted.

The latest article that I can see mentioning her is from 13/01/2021 in the Belfast Telegraph. Is this a case of Sky being slow to report?

I thought that N.I. trade issues were in the process of being sorted? At least, there haven’t been any mention of “huge delays” on the news for a couple of weeks now.

Not sure if this helps but I use a sony A6000 (APSC camera) with a macro lens, to photograph negatives, backlit with a white screen on my phone. Then I use a program called negative lab pro to convert to positive.

In your case you can get cheap slide holders, backlight the slide with a phone screen and photograph the slide and crop in, even without a macro lens, another phone camera would do. Good thing about slides is that there is no conversion needed and if you have editing software you can do simple tweaks

Liz Truss has just signed us up for a massive trade deal with……. Albania.
    ta da

I assume this has some sort of policing/security/modern slavery aspect in the background to it? Is Albania not supposed to be a major organised crime hub on the periphery of the EU? There’s definitely an Albanian link in the Essex lorry deaths.

Brexit Job Loss Index: 436,296 Jobs Lost As Of 31 January 2020

    > Total Jobs Lost: 436,296
    > Total Annual Wages Lost*: £12,511,660,392
    > Reduction in Annual Income Tax & National Insurance Receipts**: £3,747,289,625.52

Apart for criteria 4, that list seams subjective or speculative at best, but see my previous reply please.

On Cheese and other products, is the UK-EU still bound by recognising the designated origin regs?

    @Cougar
I wasn’t trying to start an argument over who’s left or whatever, I was just pointing out the silver linings that exist in every cloud, I don’t want to have an argument over how many companies have left the UK thanks, that’s been done to death on here.

I mean, fair enough, we did ask for you – someone, anyone – to show us some positives.

Done, sorry if they are of limited scope.

Everything else is slowly going to shit and you’ve found a sandwich shop that says it’s doing OK. You really are getting desperate now, aren’t you?

Getting desperate would suggest that I’m trying to sell Brexit, which I’m not. I’m just pointing out that a local company has turned the situation to its advantage.

Spare a thought for us in N.I, who have to look at the bloody things tied off lampposts, slowly fluttering away into stringy, red white and blue rags.

Beside me a contractor broke ground on a new site a couple of months ago. That night one of the things went up on the nearest lamppost in order to ward off any buyers from the wrong side of the house.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned the link above, its about excess deaths caused by alcohol in E & W last year. It probably just highlights the tip of the iceberg as far as ‘other’ deaths related to lockdown go and I’m sure we will soon start to see data for other causes, if we haven’t already.
