you could just start with one that uses its file system in a compatible manner (linux)

All the major Linux FS were modified to support SSDs in a similar way to Windows 7. i.e. Adding trim support.

On a 160GB Intel SSD here. Incredibly good, more or less no waiting for anything to load.

Waderider – Good amount of FUD in your post. Hard to compare Windows and Linux in such a way, especially since both support TRIM which lessens the effects of drive wear such that it becomes un-noticable within the life of the host machine.

Not being able to tell the difference between a triple and a compact? Do I even have to say it?

Pretty hard to tell with such a small photo. Your mate has one, and looking at the bandage on your knee, you could do with one too.

If it makes you feel better, when I do wear that jersey, I do attack on every single hill. And I'm not what you'd call slow up the hills.

    I would.

Realman – What do you think of this then..

Polkadot jersey while riding a triple? Fail.

Few crackers I see quite often near me:

    – Guy who wears full Euskadel kit, including the matching Orbea bike.
    – Older guy who wears full Bettenni World Champs kit. Socks, shoes, helmet, the works.
    – Rather large gentleman in full Liquigas kit, with the matching Cannondale. Belly nearly touches to TT.

Always amuses me, but apart from the World Champs kit, doesn't annoy me. National or World Champs kit has to be earned.

    Lucas +1.

My dog hates Glentress, all those mincers get in the way of her flow.

It may be a bit immature but he's only young.

    He's 25, that excuse doesn't work anymore.

Cav gave up! He's mentally broken I reckon.

people installing all manner of crap which you just can't really do with Mac

Not that that can't, the crap software just doesn't exist. A definite good point.

The "Macs don't need AV" argument is a load of mince, reckon people are going to get a bit of a fright soon. Saying that, traditional style AV is near-useless at keeping up with newer gen malware.

Ah, the tour, when all the once-a-year armchair experts come out to play.

Hushovd isn't a pure sprinter which is why he won Paris Roubaix

U23 Paris Roubaix, quite a different race.

tomlevell – My point totally stands then, he's not tough enough. He needs the team to tow him around, unlike Thor who can get into a break (like last year) and do some work for himself.

Various reasons I'm not a Cav fan:

    – Arrogant
    – Dangerous: sprints this year and last where crashes or near-crashes are caused by him.
    – The uncalled-for gestures when he does win.
    – His shouting at riders in the second group at last year's British Champs, wanted everyone to work for him and chase down the escape.

Team Columbia loosens the lid, Cav just unscrews it the last little bit.

Yeah, looks to be a good day for the little ogre. I think his green jersey chances are dwindling though, he's not tough enough to go out there and grab the intermediates day after day.

Recommended kit is a Guantanamo style orange jump suit, and a white full face helmet.

It's probably only gonna start appearing on DH and AM bikes

So not on, say, 2011 S-Works Epic such as was announced today?

West Kip from the West I reckon can be ridden, but I've never managed it.

Managed everything else on this thread. Black Hill from Green Cluech is a middle ring affair, harder in granny as you have a greater risk of spinning out on the gravel.

the bomb hole was actually faster than the chicken run for a change

Bollocks. The chicken-run option was around 20seconds faster. Our team did the bomb hole for the first couple of laps, and all noticed that mincers we had past previously were in front of us where the options merged. We soon switched to using the chicken run.

Really enjoyed the course last year, passing on it this year though.

Cav looks a bit confused more than anything

    Cav always looks like that.

Cav's fault. Look at his line compared to the yellow crossing painted on the road, he's coming across to screen-right pretty fast. No doubt we'll have to put up with loads of him mouthing off over the next few days.

Where's coffeeking? He had some lengthy opinions regarding the possibility of dogs around blind bends getting in the way of his mincing.

As TJ said, training is key.

Works really well in mud given it's fast credentials. Run one on the rear in everything but snow/ice. 62a run tubeless.

Been using a pair of TRP Elite compression tights for two months now, recovery only. Was a cynic till I tried them, they really make a difference to your recovery.

I also like to have an ice-bath after a hard session, though I can see why that isn't terribly attractive to a lot of people.

Nasty. The red line is likely to be a track of infection, had something similar a few years ago. Antibiotics cleared it up in my case.

You can't test for blood doping it doesn't show up

Tell Vino that, he got done for exactly that during the 2007 tour. Blood doping cannot be done without triggering lots of indicators.

Nickc – You obviously live in some sort of 'perfect-world' bubble. Maybe we should just leave you in there.

ALL racing drivers are male which suggests exposure to testosterone at a young age can improve these skills as well.

    NASCAR is not motor racing.

PEDs are more about being able to train harder, than improving performance with the same amount of training.

If Lance ever does fall, all the American money will disappear from the sport, I reckon Europe would keep going though, since it's used to the whole drug scandal thing.

Valverde was banned on the basis of evidence gathered four years ago, a lot has changed in the time since then with regards to things like the biological passport and new tests for CERA. Of course, the dopers will have moved onto something else.

The thing that bothers me most, is all the recent talk about motorised doping.

I just re-encode all the stuff (using handbrake, just queue it all up) then transfer it using a USB stick or an external hard drive. Can even play it from those devices without copying it to the PS3 hard drive.

MSC's are made in Taiwan, not Catalunya as I expected. Went to look at the frame box I had kicking around, had the original source printed on it.
RM's carbon frames are Canada. Explains the nuts prices on their top end carbon frames. Taiwanese would be cheaper and higher quality IMO.

Lance has never done a World Cup. I suspect he would get a major beating if he did try one, at any point in his career. WC is a huge step up from even a NORBA (or whatever those whining americans are calling them now).

Cadel would probably get a kicking as well, would probably take six months or so of dedicated training to make the transition. Possibly one of the top five XC racers ever though, he was pretty dominant as a U23.

Nys was top ten at the Olympics, a great result for a guy who did his first ever XC race a few months before. He'd have to ditch the 'cross to become a true podium condender though.

Had this book on the Big Gray Man as a kid, great bedtime reading…

Children of the Dead End is a cracking book too, you'll love it.

Spring Heeled Jack is another legend, I don't think it's strictly Scottish though.

Why are they riding 29ers? Marketing.

The Specialized team have a choice of 29ers, or 26er FS.

WHWD is a total mega challenge, just going one way in half the time is a mission.

italspark – Considering you have another thread asking about 20t chainrings, you are in no position to question anyones toughness.
