low BB = pedal strikes are common

If you're striking pedals, you need something with a higher BB to compensate for your lack of skill.

All dog owners in England and Wales would need insurance against their animals attacking people under Labour proposals.

    FREEDOM!!! etc*.

Had very good service from them as both a contractor and an MD.

MSC Koncept Carbon (26er FS) – 20.57lbs inc. pedals and a number board.

Not a fan of the calculated weight thing, as it tends to be done by people procrastinating on what will actually win races:- training.

Not a fan of dogs….or the fact that typically owners don't take responsibility for them….summed up by me being bitten whilst rehabilitating….walking alongside the river Dee on crutches…woman said the dog didnt like stick

That is one of the worst things I've read this week! No wonder so many people are scared of dogs and/or their possible actions, when so many irresponsible owners fail to make their dog comfortable with everything. The first few weeks with a new puppy should be spent going to the train station, busy streets, meeting livestock, other dogs, kids, walkers, cyclists etc.

    "Oh sorry, he/she doesn't like sticks/bikes/cars/hovercraft"!

I'm wondering if the 3rd party insurance thing is a misinterpretation of the proposed legislation. Registration in the form of the abandoned dog-licence would make sense, especially when backed up by a chip. This would allow law enforcement to identify which dogs need to be insured, if they are, etc.

Currently the small number of dogs that are required to be insured are difficult to find, as officers trained in breed identification are required. Mandatory chipping and registration would make that a lot easier.

And hey, if my dog does have to have 3rd party insurance, then it'll be totally safe to take it to a trail centre, eh coffeeking??

trail_rat – Here's the map from last year's SXC. The course is apparently 'tougher' this year. By 2-level climb do you mean the super-steep one on the return of 10atK? If so, no, you join the descent just after that.

Kirroughtree is awesome, definitely worth taking the day before/after the race to ride all of the red/black.

SXC course is OK, not a huge fan myself as it lasts any big climbs or super-tech stuff. Does have some awesome natural bits though, and the final descent is good. A lot of other people love it though, so horses for courses I guess.

Andrewh – Looking forward to seeing you and catching up.

in that photo of Lance, why has he got one gear lever on the down tube and one on the sti?

A downtube shifter and a standard brake lever were (might still be) lighter. This was back in the day before off-the-shelf bikes were below the UCI weight limit.

Have you been sniffing tub-glue Ian?

This sounds like an interesting plan. I reckon rubber vulcanising solution (patch glue) will be your best bet. Have used it in the past to glue pieces of innertubes into tyres for repairs on rips.

Just to clarify – I took my hardtail setup for mud; conti 1.5s, crud catcher, no granny-ring etc. Luckily I didn't need it last year.

Its never going to be technical, its a XC race track.

Its never going to be technical, its a English XC race track.

Best choice is a 20lb full susser.

I thought the course was pretty good last year, though I can appreciate how it might be less than fun if you can't get the laps under 50minutes.

Dougal dougal. I played golf with a cheap 200 pound set and beat most comers and I've been out for the last three days on the bounce on th bike, even avoiding Saturday because it's busy. Try harder with your sarcasm sweetie!

Sorry, I didn't realise that you were riding at an Elite level despite your indecision about clothing choices. I look forward to seeing you beast the field at the first round of the BMBS.

Given the insecurities you have displayed by creating such a thread, I'd say you should stick to the baggies as part of your ATGNI/weekend-warrior getup.

Never done a VO2 max test?

Several, but they drive you to exhaustion as a testing measure, not for training.

If you're only managing half of one, you're going too hard. No workout should drive you to exhaustion or quitting.

PS smart arse whats spelt wrong ??

'P.S.' is an acronym and should be delineated with periods. Capitalise the 's' in 'smart'. Stick a comma after 'arse'. You missed out the apostrophe in 'whats'. For some reason you have a space before the pair of question-marks, and there's redundantly a second one.

And that's only an analysis of your final sentence.

I heard that commas, apostrophes, grammar and spelling would be in for 2010.

Going by this thread, I'm going to go with 'no'.

The system updates can be downloaded to a PC or Mac, put on a USB stick or memory card, and run from there. No need to login. This is how I usually do it as PSN downloads are treacle slow usually.

How about turning your broadband off, booting the console, turning the wireless off then turning the broadband back on? That way it'll not try to connect to PSN as it will have no network to use.

Gaming can then continue as normal.

Good ride by Stannard. He just tried to get away too many times and was pulled back. Traksel did it the right way, not attacking the others in the last 10k so he could have one big effort in the final sprint to take the win.

Team Sky are definitely beating my rather cynical expectations on their potential performance.

Was put there after the snow, and was a long way from civilisation. Some people litter off stuff.

I don't run anything lighter than the Maxxis Exception series tyres. Anything lighter is just too much of a risk for racing IMO, so no Furious Freds or Maxxlite for me thanks.

I'm 56kg, but getting to the finish is pretty important.

cynic-al – Always amazes me too. Guess it's because of the larger wheel (realistically only accounts for an extra 3" of extrusion on the rim) and the far higher pressures the rim has to deal with.
