Sky+ helped with my wife network problems. It seems much more stable and communicative in the evening now. Can only assume it drops out a lot more whilst I’m at work.

Please don’t take bikes up the Grande Sassiere. It’s just a shitty, pointless thing to do. Trust me, it is nowhere near as much fun as it may appear in that very selectively-edited video.

Huge chunks of it would be unrideable for most people, both up and down. Part of the track is (albeit briefly) in a nature reserve in which bikes are banned. The environment up there is very fragile and very easily damaged. Most people would in full-on lock-up mode, digging huge trenches if they tried to ride down the summit cone.
Fair enough. Might still go up on foot.

We keep them locked in the apartment. There is a ski locker type room but it’s shared between that many apartments I wouldn’t leave a bike in there. You looking at a DIY trip this time? If your in resort at the same time give us a shout as I’m sure we could sort out some mega point to point back country stuff up around Lac de Roselend with 2 cars ;)

Wallop, stopping in similar but slightly smaller apartment in the same block as this. Literally a few hundred meters from the funicular and 5 mins walk from town centre. Has own pool.

It’s much more scenic up in Vallandry, just dont miss the last chairlift ;)

Wallop, were stopping in Les Glieres apartments just round the corner from the funicular in Bourg. Was going to camp but the apartment prices have come down by about a quarter this year so the extra comfort doesnt cost much more. You?

Forgot to mention, looking at £350-£375 for travel and accommodation depending on how much fuel we use/prices at time of going. Food an lift passes extra. We’ll be hitting the Super U and Lidl as soon as we get there and mixing self catering with eating out.

Mainly Trail Addiction style riding but over a much larger are, lift assisted trail/enduro riding so not much climbing, xc or DH track abuse. Think Snowdon Ranger/Rhyd Ddu if you could take your bike on the train. Probably no more than a few hundred metres climbing max most days just to get to the best trails like this. I’ll be taking a 7″ FR bike with Totems with the other rider taking a 951 hence the low amount of climbing. Was thinking of taking the 6″ trail bike as well for the odd backcountry earn your descents day but tbh it would probably just sit in the apartment every day due to the number of lift systems in the area and me being a few pounds overweight. This is my 40th birthday trip so not an out and out DH trip, more a trail and big mountain trip using sturdy bikes. Hopefully finish the fortnight seeing how far we can get up Grande Sassiere if weather permits.

Picking a mate up in Brum 6-7pm on Fri 12th and getting back very late on Sun 28th. Actually got space for 2 in comfort in the monster MPV ( I’m 6ft4 and fit comfortably in all the seats) but only one bed space in the apartment. Weve both been before and know our way round well and will also be doing day trips over to La Thuile, Tignes, Beaufort, 3 Valleys, trip to watch the tour?

If the dates work and mail me if your interested in either catching a lift or to see about coming with us for a bargain fortnight if riding styles/experience match up.

My way of doing it would be to get the medium size AL+ then swap to a shorter stem (50-70mm) /wider (780mm) bar combo to get the correct fit ;) You’ll be running the saddle higher (almost roadie height for smooth climbing efficiency but you can drop it a touch for technical climbs) with the Reverb so may need the extra seat tube length if the insertion mark to rails length is the same. Got a AL+ myself btw.

Go for one of the clearance tech 2 DH wheelsets with their own rims. The hubs are almost worth the £120 asking price alone. Got three sets of switch wheelsets and love being able to run swap two of them between a QR hardtail and a 15mm/142mm full suss in a couple of mins. (The other set is 150mm rear end).

Looking at getting a set made up with Open Pro CD’s

Got the biggest spacer in the CTD on my AL+. Couldnt get anything other than supermarket special performance without the volume kit. It was a long wait from December until I could get my hands on the CTD kit. The bike is pretty much sorted now although at 17st kitted up I’m bang on the limit of what the standard rebound damping can control. Not an issue as the weights still coming off. I’ll consider a retune once I loose a few more stone.

Once you’ve got the rear sorted you’ll probably want to add a few ml of oil to the fork air chamber to get a balanced feel to the suspension.

I cant see why Canyon dont offer to put the correct spacer for your weight in the shock for a small upcharge in a similar fashion to theyre correct fork spring weight service.

If you need so much air to stop them bottoming out that the fork feels harsh and sits up in its travel then 5-10ml of suspension oil at a time into the RHS leg until you can get a plush fork that doesnt bottom.

32 CTD 150mm travel here. 17st and have 20ml oil in the air chamber and around the recommended pressure for my weight. Never run in descend mode as it’s like stepping back a decade in damping technology. With the largest volume spacer fitted to my LV CTD rear shock the front and rear suspension now feel well balanced when both in the same CTD setting. Taken quite a bit of fettling to achieve though.

Like others have mentioned. Start at 5ml and then keep going until your happy. Get the spacers for the rear to get everything nicely balanced.

I don’t think one is better than the other full-stop, but I do for specific applications plus at the end of the day a lot of the benefits are perceived anyway as they boil down to preference.

Air is more tuneable so is great on an all round bike. Coil all the way for DH though for both feel and reliability.

Do yourself a big favour and get an air volume tuning kit. Put a bigger spacer than currently fitted to get back your small bump sensitivity.

£35 for that level of rear shock tuning ability without sending off to a professional tuner is cheap however I agree that they must cost that little to make surely they should come with the shock at purchase.

A stray turned up looking for food at our old house that was tagged. It had been missing for 6 months all through the winter. Looked really pleased to be re-united with its owners. They can look after themselves if they need to.

It means the volume spacers are used on the smaller cans.

Which would be great if you can find somewhere that will sell you a spacer.

Manual not required. Just strip clean and rebuild. Anything more serious isnt in the manual anyway.

Nashwaymule, there’s a pdf trail Map link in Resources/Routes section of this site. The local companies/guides know way much more than this and can tailor the trails to your group but this map will keep you busy for a week or two.

Was going to organise a week long trip with some mates but due to all this ‘guiding’ malarkey now only stopping for a couple of days with the Mrs on a 3 week tour to Mont Ventoux, Carcassonne, Ainsa in the Pyrenees, then the Atlantic beaches. Mates are going elsewhere.

Canyon Nerve Al 6.0 as long as you can work out what size you need from the geometry charts. More a trail bike to the Ghosts race bike.

2.25 Crossmark R? Handles like a XC version of the HR. Rolls like a Larsen TT but grips once you lean it over. Not ideal in full mud conditions but nothing that is will roll well at the trailcenter. Paired with a Minion DHF up front.

Any larger riders with a set of these. I can’t find any firmer springs for these and don’t like the way forks with standard springs ride when you add enough preload for 17st. Is it a straight single air chamber or is an one with auto negative air like the RS solo air system/
