Rankings are taken as the nearest in a straight line to the stage finish in Capetown. Even if you were a mile behind someone, due to the numbers playing there will be hundreds if not thousands along the band that is equidistant. I’m out to the West, the new leaders are about 12hrs ahead of me but in the rankings I am still behind a boats as far back as the Canaries because they are nearer to Capetown as the crow flies.

Have a look at this map. It shows the first 10000 on the leaderboard. The sharp edge along the northern side of the boat plots is where it gets to 10000th place. Everyone along that edge is in a similar place on the leaderboard so by moving a little closer or further away from Capetown you will make/lose loads of places.

Think I’m going west of Cape Verde, there seems to be a bit of a lull to the east for a few days just as we get there plus any wind there is is blowing directly due south rather than at an angle.

    :Goes to check fridge:

    Olives – Check
    Gin – Check
Angostura bitters – Hmmm. Might have to get a bit creative.

I’m going to head straight for Cape Verde to leave my options open until the last minute then see what the winds look like.

Looks like ‘Tortoise’ is off to rescue ‘Rusty Floater’.

I’m heading pretty much straight for Cape Verde for the next few days. I’ll tack back east at the 7pm wind change. Don’t want to be too close to Africa when I get there though as there’s usually a headwind coming up the west coast once you pass the equator.

Found out I am an INTP 10 or so years ago then surprise surprise last year it turns out that, like a high percentage of the relatively small INTP group (3%), I am AS.

Don’t even think about drafting me. I’m getting ready to repel boarders!

I’ve got one hand on your Camelback strap ;)

    See you all tomorrow.

Hoping to catch some decent southerly breezes soon and doing some serious catching up.

Reckon you’ll be in the fast air in an hour or so.

We are about the same distance as the current leaders to Cape Verde and will hopefully have much better winds over the next couple of days so should get there well ahead. I’m gaining 150 ish places every 10 mins or so atm.

Come in xcgb (Rusty Floater) your time is up!

Maybe he is off to sail round the Bahamas for a couple of months hoping he won’t be missed then sneakily rejoin just in front of the leading group as they head up from El Salvador to Charleston ;)

doing 7 knots and watching those others skelping down at 20knots + is a bit disheartening.

Chuck me a bungy cord and I’ll give you a tow.

Cheers for those links. Sat image is nearest 10000 boats to Cape Town. Atm all the ones sitting around twiddling they’re thumbs.

20 knots due South. Ridin’ the low baby!

I think Rusty Floater must be off to visit some Yank relatives.

There are now over 30000 people playing this. Over 5000 have joined since this afternoon!

I think there’s a day or two at most to be made in the North Atlantic although quite a bit of time could be lost. I think the key to the first leg will be the S Atlantic.

Athlon 2100XP, 2Gb Ram and an ATI 3850AGP run on XP SP3.

    Rating – 372
    CPU – 436
    2D – 262
    3D – 793

A new PC would be nice but this one is rock solid and does what I need it too so funds always seem to get diverted to other purchases.

I had the opposite in Spain last week, …. I know know a whole new type of arm pump, and my legs are barely capable of walking!

Know exactly what you mean after riding the Rangers on the 456 yesterday. I have aches in muscles I never knew existed. Still bloody good fun just in a different way to doing it on an FS.

It’s been empty for most of this year so streetview is from before then. I suspect from just after the asset disposal company moved in.

6’4″ with a 36″ inside leg usually results in Frankenbike unless you go to gate like frames which handle like cr@p downhill.

Bit of trail building and maintenance mainly for my own ends as most people don't even know my trails exist. Free spanners and technical advice for mates. Free tuition for anyone that will listen on the trails.

Slow speed damping/pedal platforms allowing more than a couple of inches travel on trail bikes, air sprung shocks, dropping seatposts, hydroformed tubing and twin ring chainguides. Nothing groundbreaking and mostly existing products applied to biking but so were disc brakes and suspension. IIRC the only inventions that were specifically for the bicycle were the pneumatic tyre and derailleur gears so no groundbreaking innovation for years.

+1 for Dangerous Dan and Super T. Love riding the steep stuff inspired by the NSX films from about 5 onwards with 6 & 7 being my own favourites. Whenever I see something barely ride able I always think back to them talking about that one of Digger's creations saying you could just put a picture of it in the dictionary to describe Crazy. Thinking about Will Craig really helps me get my head in the right place after injuries and then get on with riding.

It's the Double X short that fits headshock frames with a 1.5 fork. I had the Double XC Short Headshock to 1 1/8th version on the Prophet.

    Doug

Sorry, fair enough but the Double XC worked fine on my 05 Prophet which originally came with a Lefty. Maybe the lefty headset has a marginally smaller diameter than the headshock ones or they had changed the headtube ID by then to allow standard tooling when reaming theyre headtubes when 1.5 became popular. Also, are the OP's forks 1.5 or 1 1/8th. If they really are 1 1/5th I don't think he'll get a headset anywhere.

EDITED due to post below after remembering Headshock headsets are a little bigger than 1.5.
