Go with an open mind and you will definitely learn quite a bit. If you go just to save yourself some points then you probably won’t learn as much but will still save the points. Then there’s also the cost of works holiday or day off.

    Not exactly Scotland either.

The racks were taken off the Trawscambria buses a year or so ago as insurance required the owner of the bicycle to load them so Arriva would not be responsible for any damage to the cycle however this could not be done on a public highway due to the risk of passengers getting run over. The only place that loading and unloading was allowed was at Dolgellau depot whilst drivers swapped over. Great if you want to put your bike on the back of the bus for a scenic tour of N Wales finishing back in Dolgellau but not much kop if you actually wanted take your bike for a ride somewhere else. Service buses also now no longer pull into the depot to swap drivers so there is now nowhere that would be suitable even if the racks were still in place.

2700m with a bike which is 1900m above the valley floor. An excellent area for Trail/AM riding. I doubt you’d ride all the trails in one season never mind a week or two. Need a guide for the best stuff.

TrailAddiction or SteveMCD’s lot for chairlift and backcountry uplift fun, BikeVillage if you like to earn your descents.

Fox 36 TALAS and a gravity dropper would be perfect IMO. I like Lyrics but they just take too long to adjust the travel. I prefer ETA and the newer TALAS stuff wich requires just one turn of the knob so can be done on the move before and after descents. I also had a second 200*57mm shock for a 6.5″ travel option on AM and DH days before I got a DH bike.

I’m looking at one of these frames but am a bit worried about the seat tube length with my long legs. I’m 6’3 and just can’t see how an 18.5″ (Large) frame is going to allow the seat post to be high enough.

+1 as I was right on the limit with a 19″ Prophet.

Can downgrade wheels, bars and stem to original if required. Shifters are 9sp Tiagra. All in very good condition. Selling due to back injury in RTA over a year ago making it too painful to ride for more than half an hour.

Where are you based. Might have something SH to suit. Aksiums, Ultegra crank, mechs and cassette, Zipp carbon bars, controltech stem and 105 spd sl’s. Looking for around £500 but have a few extra’s i.e. Polar HRM and Shimano shoes to sweeten the deal if needed.

Which model of tyre do you use the most? I am trying to work out if I cover more distance wheelying or doing stoppies as like many riders I use different models front and rear.

I ride Aspens right the way through to Wet Screams off road plus 26″ slicks on the road depending on bike and conditions so even singling out which pair gets most use would be difficult.

Thinking about it a little more, my slicks are the only ones that get used with the same tyre front and rear plus I tend to go further on road rides so maybe I should fill in the questionaire based on them but then again they are rubbish off road tyres.

1.4 Michelin City tyres are fine for mud on tarmac lanes due to a relatively deep grooved pattern. For something a bit wider there’s the Schwalbe Road cruiser in 1.75″ flavour. If you really want the mental crutch of an offroad tread then Michelin XC Dry’s may fit the bill. Both can be found under £10 from the usual online sources.

Ardeg, Laphroaig QC and Lagavulin with their strong medicinal tastes are my tipples of choice after having medicinal packaging in my upper palette for a few months following dental surgery when I was 11. Bearing that in mind highland tend to leave me a little unsatisfied however the Aldi Glen Marnoch ‘Dalmore’ which is currently sat in my glass and mentioned on STW a few weeks ago is however a good example of a highland, a bit like a sherry casked Balvenie.

As mentioned before Highland Park (The Ladies Whisky as my Grandfather used to say) is the introduction to the ‘Amonia’ flavoured Isles and Islay whisky’s IMHO of course.

Meh, lots of people like to think they score high for asperger’s or autism, because they think it means they must be smart, and it’s easier than just admitting they are simply rude and socially inept with a mediocre intellect and a liking of star wars/trek. imho

I don’t need a test to tell me I’m smart, my own voice has trouble keeping up. The few people I am forced to communicate with usually inform me I’ve broken some sort of social ‘code’ at least once a week when I can be arsed to listen to what they are saying.

When they say I’m being rude I usually tell them to piss off then they’ll blow up like a bottle of pop for absolutely no reason, I just don’t get it.

As for liking Startrek/Wars, you couldnt be more off the mark, Wormhole Extreme is much more my kind of show!

@schrickvr6 I can’t be arsed filling the quiz in again but mine looked pretty similar to yours.

The new Blue Pig will take a tapered fork, but that’s really only because I kept seeing tapered and 1.5in forks on clearance and thought it’d be nice to be able to make a steel frame that worked with them

Well done that man! 1.5″ 140mm travel F32’s can be had for under £200 quid atm 8O

Do you ‘browse’ online bike forums? If you really must see the covers then a HTPC with MediaPortal?

What size are you after. Got a 14 lying around after turning an Ultegra 12-27 into an 11-27.

You regularly use two different tires depending on use which bike you take out. Not much different to having several sets of wheels for one bike depending on use/conditions.

There’s no excuse however I am trying to understand situation as a whole. Was there traffic coming the other way/in the outside lane which he should have waited for but thought sod it as you could be arsed waiting for him. I could be wrong but the fact you didnt fall off and are not in fact dead as some have suggested was the drivers intention leads me to believe it wasnt actually that bad.

As mentioned above, report him, if he does it regularly then it adds to the weight of evidence against a certain driver respectable companies don’t ignore. As there has been no damage or injury, unless the driver has a poor record, your complaint will probably go in the bin. I would suggest that filtering to the front of lights to get in front of large vehicles which then have to over take you also not that clever regardless of the legal situation.

GW – OP overtook the front vehicle at a pelican crossing rather than going through the lights. Both illegal.

If i was a bit more timid on the bike I would certainly have fallen off.

Would you have overtook him in the first place if you were a bit more timid. Could the driver see you had the space to move over to let him pass a little easier after jumping in front on a significantly slower vehicle. Courtesy and due consideration works two ways.

Question for OP and everyone else on the one tire for all side of the fence I suppose. How many bikes do you have and are all the tires identical?

When I started riding in the mid 1990’s, people had one set of tyres, that they used until they wore out, and usually replaced them with the same type.

I’ve run 2 sets of wheels since the late 80’s and knew a few others who did the same. One set whilst the moors were wet and one for when they dried out. The growth in trail centers reduced the need for a full mud tire in winter for a few years but as soon as I started riding muddy DH tracks around 5 years ago a set of Swampies were a must.

I currently have 3 sets of wheels for the 456, a pair of slicks whilst my back recovers enough to ride the road bike, Ardent/Aspen combo with XC tubes for summer/trail center work and a Swampy/Minion combo with DH tubes for playing in the AM/DH duties as the DH bike is broken.

187mm steerer will be fine on a medium as long as you have a zero stack headset. I ran 195mm on an XL with a spacer or two.

The Cane Creek Cannondale specific reducer headset comes with same 1.5 bearings, you just need to get hold of the 1.5 specific crown and top races. ;) Well worth the effort IMO especially when you consider how much you’ll save on forks. For tapered forks just get the lower race.

Having previously owned a Prophet run with 160mm droppable forks I would strongly suggest some 1.5 Talas 36’s currently £399 from CRC. They will have less clearance problems than RS forks plus 160mm travel for DH play days then 130/140 for trail mincing with a big drop for extended climbing. Think about adding a 200*57 coil to mix and match with the RP2 for a plush 160mm on the rear.

Used to take any pupils that really struggled on test days up to Birkenhead/Liverpool and get them to drive unfamiliar busy roads for a few hours for a couple of weeks. They were still nervous on test days back in Chester/Wrexham but the driving was now well in their comfort zone rather than on the edge of it.

The other thing I sometimes did was to get self critical perfectionists to take me on a driving test. I’d throw in plenty of minor faults but nothing that would fail a test to show them just how much of a bad day they could have. Most of them then flew through their next test as they wstopped driving on eggshells.
