Are all sparda trousers designed for people of the same height? No variation in leg length. Looking forward to feedback on these from anyone 6 ft 3 ish about what sizes worked well.
doubleeagleFree MemberIs there any rule to say that you have to display your number plate when on private land? Would it be illegal in any way to cover your plates when using car parks with ANPR?
doubleeagleFree MemberDoes anyone know if there are any volunteer organisations the Polish/Slovakian borders helping refugees? I’ve seen a lot of them on TV but no indication of whether there’s any centralised organisation with info on how to join. There was a guy on the BBC talking about this a few minutes ago but I just missed it.
doubleeagleFree MemberThe step up from PS4 to Pro was mainly a 4k output and a faster processor. On a small/med tv (where 1080p HD is fine for resolution) being played by a kid the standard one is more than fine.
All my PlayStation stuff over the years has lasted pretty well. The console you should be able to get second hand easily, if it’s been looked after it’ll be fine. Controllers you may want from new as they’ll have been sat on under a cushion accidentally at least a million times by now.
PS3 is a good shout, same rules as above. Me and my mates from the flat opposite are thinking about doing a whip round for a PS3 (we’re all on 4th or 5th gen consoles) as we want to play split screen coop games which you can’t get these days. Progress doesn’t always go forward with the expense gadgets etc. Could be fun for the kids.
doubleeagleFree MemberI’d also have a think about how he’s going to edit/manage these. I have a Nikon DSLR, but for ages didn’t have a proper computer so didn’t really use it. Eventually I got an iPad which was surprisingly capable for raw processing, and then a MacBook Air which is fab.
You mentioned moving away from the iPad. Worth thinking about now before the requests come in. Photos need to be edited somewhere.
Fwiw if I could buy again today, I’d go mirrorless (breaking from the STW tradition of recommending what you have).
doubleeagleFree MemberCambridge is a driving nightmare at weekends. Queen Anne car park (Kelsey Kerridge) and Park Street (near Jesus Green) are good multi story options in the city. P&R are good, but I guess you have a boot of luggage that needs unloading.
Do you have a hotel that you’d want to park up near?
Bike theft is a huge problem in Cambridge. Get something that looks close to death and lock it up well. Stolen bikes are usually sold in the city too, so I’d be cautious where you buy. Try Owl bikes (community project in Chesterton).
doubleeagleFree MemberI’m not middle age 😂, I watched phantom menace in the cinema before I had left primary school! Those 3 films were aimed directly at my generation, and we too palmed them off for more Luke & Leia. Age is irrelevant to it being a dreadful film in a dreadful trilogy (good lead villain though).
Harry the Spider’s son’s choices tell you everything. Make the most of unlimited streaming OP, but I know it’ll be Vader/R2D2 that will be favourites by Christmas.
doubleeagleFree MemberI expect that it’s a case of finance. I’m sure most athletes would like to represent their country, but if they’re not given/funding/salary/accommodation etc then it’s a time and money loss to a pro athlete.
We can’t expect them to turn up and entertain for free. I think that at a national level someone needs to get the chequebook out of you want representation at global events.
doubleeagleFree MemberIt’s blocked for me on fire stick and mobile.
It’s on BBC iPlayer though hidden away under sport. Commentary is putting me into a coma though.
doubleeagleFree MemberI think there’s still bits of my knee halfway down cheeseroller from missing a line and washing out in the gravel.
Some of the reds are less asphalty, but the blues take a lot of use and would erode if they weren’t.
100% agree that I’d rather ride a proper loamy sibgletrack trail.
doubleeagleFree MemberPerhaps the better question would have been Star Wars where to stop?
I would say Rouge 1, IV, V, VI. And maybe even move R1 to the end (it’s completely it’s own film and doesn’t want to be in the franchise, it’s just seconds overlapping IV on the time line).
All the classic lovable characters are in the original 3 films. The rest are there for the box office/subscription fee.
doubleeagleFree MemberI have endura hummvee in size L. I’m 6 ft 4 and they fit surprisingly well, even on leg length.
doubleeagleFree MemberI’m generally interested but I have road bike commitments that weekend.
I’m definitely interested in mountain biking in the area, so do shout if you’re making similar plans for another weekend.
doubleeagleFree MemberI’ve got really into it. I love following the test matches on TMS, but I’ve never got into the shorter formats. The Hundred feels like the extreme end of reduced overs cricket makes a bit more sense, and I like the idea of live music between games too. Big thumbs up, especially for bringing women’s sport more into the spotlight.
County cricket and the middle ground formats never quite got my interest though.
doubleeagleFree MemberHandlebars may be tight enough but those threads can be squeaky buggers too if there’s nothing on those bolts.
doubleeagleFree MemberI know you’ve swapped the pedals, it’s an obvious one and I’m sure you would have greased the threads, but it would fit with the under power thing.
Likewise I know there’s a new saddle, but may be worth getting some WD40 down the rails into the saddle as mine sometimes squeaks there.
doubleeagleFree MemberThe big difference between the the base model and middle models of the iMac is the inclusion of Touch ID on the keyboard, and it has a cooling fan instead of some other lower tech cooling apparatus (may want to double check the specifics of that). I did a lot of reading about 4 months ago, and then bought a MacBook Air. The look gorgeous, but figured for the money I could have th laptop + accessories.
It is very impressive, even with 8gb ram and no fan.
doubleeagleFree MemberPersonally I’d stick to either LG or Sony. I think Sony even use LG screens. The colour replication just comes a lot more natural. I find Samsung’s very oversaturated, faces that look sunburned, grass that looks like acid etc.
I’d also seriously think about earmarking some of that budget for a soundbar.
Everything else varies on price, and price varies based on screen size.
I’ve taken to techradar recently for this sort of consumer stuff.
doubleeagleFree MemberTalk to the owner. He’s your longest serving contact. This threatens the relationship between your business and his, so take it to the top.
doubleeagleFree MemberI think things like this are genuinely where STW can separate itself from the rest of the Mtb press (which is usually product blabber paid for by a sponsor). I like that it genuinely seems to support our sport. Go Hannah!
doubleeagleFree MemberI don’t think it’s losing older listeners by trying to appeal more to a younger audience – I’m 31 and I find a lot of it quite stuffy, but I still don’t hear much new/upcoming music on the regular daytime playlisted shows (apart from hearing the same songs all day long all day long…). I don’t know many younger listeners either.
Tom Ravenscroft/Giles Peterson is a good balance for me, proper DJs.
doubleeagleFree MemberI’m a regular 6 music listener but really struggling with it at the moment. The playlist means it’s only a few hours before I’m repeat listening to tracks. It just sounds a bit drab sometimes.
Keaveney/Iggy/Huey/Charles/Caris are favourites, and Lard some evenings too. But the core playlist is bad, I’d rather hear them do their thing more.
doubleeagleFree MemberHow did this go in the end? I’m looking at selling my flat now, and I’m happy to take on some of the work myself (I can take the photos and do the viewings etc quite happily). The only thing I can’t do easily is get a listing on RightMove, which is a real barrier to getting the biggest audience.
I had an estate agent from Purple Bricks here yesterday, who seemed trustworthy and that they knew what they’re talking about (a very rare combination for an estate agent in my experience), but because I’m in Cambridge they want to charge me £500 extra, and an all my costs would be upfront otherwise there’s more fees. So I’m not as keen on them as I had been earlier in the week.
Has anyone else had experience in selling their property themselves? Do you lose out in the long run, or are the agents over charging? Suggestions would be apprecaited!
doubleeagleFree MemberI took the plunge recently myself. I went for 8gb. I thought about the upgrade, but decided that in 8 years time or whatever when it does start to struggle with the operating requirements of the future then it makes more sense to have £200 in the bank to put towards upgrading at that point. The device will still be worth something to sell too.
It’s a really great machine. The new ones do sound nice too, I’m a sucker for fancy colours.
doubleeagleFree MemberI’m probably a bit late here, but +1 for taking it easy on the turns, I just had a stitch taken out my knee that the kind doctor at Cheltenham A+E put in after I washed out on cheeseroller last Saturday! Urgh I hate hardback surfaces…
Almost entirely my own fault, but the corners are definitely dusty/gravelly. I had infinite grip a few weeks ago.
Hope you have/had a good ride OP!
doubleeagleFree MemberI don’t know for sure, but if you bought your music from Apple you may be able to redownload/stream in the new format.
You certainly won’t be able to convert from the compressed file (aac?) to the lossless file (ALAC?) as described above).
In terms of noticing the difference, my rule of thumb is it depends on whether you’re listening as background while doing something else, or paying full attention. It sounds like you have nice speakers so would hear the difference, but it’s up to you if it’s worth it.
doubleeagleFree MemberHaving worked in the business for a while, and also bought a property, I would say just tread carefully. Some of them sound great, some sound terrible. As I understand it, they often consist of several junior staff working under one trained solicitor who signs off the work. In practice this can cause the issues outlined above with documents being asked for twice or not asked for at all etc.
Then again, I’ve heard of purchases almost derailed by local solicitors not keeping up to speed either.
I would not have thought than an online solicitor would be any faster or slower by default. The people I bought from had an online conveyancer, and they held the process up.
The solicitor I had for my purchase was a local guy in town and an absolute Rottweiler; exactly the sort of person you’d want to have representing you when dealing with your home and life savings.
So I have no strong feelings either way, but that’s who I put my trust and money in. There’s good options and bad options on both sides, but do be be picky, and don’t be pushed by estate agents/other salespeople.
doubleeagleFree MemberI have a laptop that I was about to stick on Facebook/ebay. It works fine, but I was trying to use it for photo editing which is just outside of its processing power. It does Skype/Zoom etc just fine. I bought it a couple of years ago and now have a bigger budget so I treated myself to a Mac a few weeks back.
It’s in great condition. It’s a HP hp 14-cm0503sa (what the nice person at Currys recommended at the time) and works fine. If you’re interested for more then ping me a PM :-).
doubleeagleFree MemberThis definitely sounds a lot like me, especially in the decade of my 20s (still very recent). Many of the comments also echo my behaviours. The phrase I was musing the other night when I couldn’t sleep was ‘not a bad life, but definitely a sad life’. I’m very jaded right now.
I 100% recommend Mark Manson (author of the book image above). I’m not sure what my life would look like if I hadn’t discovered his profanity ridden musings, but it would probably be a lot worse to what I have now. The good thing is a lot of his best work is actually free – check out his online blog, or if you’re driving/walking then try the podcasts which are the same material read aloud. I think the better book of his is actually the one about hope, and why our desire for a better life ultimately ends up being the cause of our own misery rather than the solution, but Subtle Art is a good bit of pre-reading. Seriously, check the blog first though, it is freeee!
If you want a copy of No More Mr Nice Guy I do actually have that in hardback somewhere too. If you PM me I can post it to you. I liked it, and it was a big influence for Manson to for sure, but I prefer his books. They speak my (foul) language a bit more.
Honestly, the blog made more of a difference than therapy and cost way less.
doubleeagleFree MemberI definitely thought that humvees were the unofficial secret uniform of the singletrack reader.
doubleeagleFree MemberThis is why I cycle about 1/3 of the way into the lane. Nobody goes round me unless it’s clear the other way to use that side of the road. That looked horribly dangerous.
doubleeagleFree MemberTo be fair I thought Russia was one of the better ones this year. But even if I didn’t and I shared a land border with them I’d think about giving them my vote.
doubleeagleFree MemberOh this is great! It’s 2006 and Im listening to pop metal again!
doubleeagleFree MemberI’d have fallen off that rotating square about 6 times by now. And that was a big high note at the end there. Won’t forget that one!
doubleeagleFree MemberYeah I actually like that Iceland one, that was properly good.
doubleeagleFree MemberGreece – wow that was visually quite exciting. The music was pretty good too. I think that’s in a top 3 for me.
