I was riding a fully rigid 26er HT (as part of a team) – I didn't miss the lack of suspension at all.

I regret not making the effort to change the 1.5 Mudsharks early on the Sunday morning as I think they were making the plasticine stickiness worse, had a pair of Small Block 8s which may have floated on the mud rather than digging in – hmmm grip or speed?!

@Mr Sparkle – No, we all live close to Chinley Churn (New Mills) hence the name. I have met you before though at SSUK09 and Brownbacks (Genesis io). I went all geared at SITS though. Well done on your solo effort btw!

Hmmm there is a typo with our team name in the results.

We are called the Chinley Churners not the Chinley Churchers makes us sound like a bunch of religious nuts ! 🙄

Right thanks – I suppose I could get on the River Mersey at Stockport and get off in Didsbury / Withington then Oxford Rd into town – still busy but better than Longsight/Levenshulme

Just discovered you have to use the same tyres for all disciplines (just in case anyone else missed that rule like moi)

I somehow missed the sign and didn’t know the mincers route existed till my 3rd lap, ‘hard’ route was fun but there should have been an advantage to take the hard (i.e. shorter/quicker) but it was a definite disadvantage as there was a climb out.

I’m another New Mills resi – great riding from your door 25mins into mcr on the train, easy access to Buxton – love it here.

Crazylegs where is New Mills are you? Do you have a SS Genesis roadbike and a blinged up Titus?

Ran out of liquid on my 3rd lap, knew I should of used a bigger bottle.

Manchester Trev were you running a 32:16? I was using 32:18 and found that tough! That Yeti looks loverrly – what does it weigh?

Great event looking forward to the autumn series.

Popping my Dyfi cherry this year too. Can’t decide to singlespeed it or not are the climbs brutal or just draggy?

All the other races I’ve done have been on grassy, forestry stuff and not really technical in anyway so it was nice to have a bit of interest. I agree it would be good to have the ‘arena’ higher up.

A friend who was racing dropped his bottle at the beginning of the first lap, top came off and lost all his go juice – he continued to race sans water ! Impressive stuff – I went through a litre and still felt dehydrated at the end.

    Great event, well done chaps!

This story was in the Manchester Evening News – the other day, it sounds as if the Bristol force need one officer who has bike theft investigation as a large part of their remit (maybe they do already?!) Bristol really does sound terrible for bike theft at the moment though.

If you want rocks do a loop that takes in any of/or a combination of the following:- Edale Cross, Jacobs ladder, Chapel Gate or Cavedale in the Dark Peak, Rocks-o-rama !

How the **** did he manage that? Theres nothing on hagg farm descent to get close to a outer ring?
Are you seroius about the second comment? What/where in the ‘majority’ of the (Dark?) peak is a bash guard worth it?

A big rock jumped up and bashed and bent his big ring inwards he had to finish the rest of the ride in the granny.

You obviously don’t need a bash ring – as you don’t need suspension to ride rocky descents but it does help avoid big rocks bending your chainrings as witnessed only last week – I would rather be sporting a bashring than not on:-
    The Beast
    Cavedale
    Edale Cross descent
    Jacobs both up and down
    Chapel Gate
Descent into Rowath Little Mill Inn
Anywhere big loose rocks are likely to bash stuff really.

A friend of mine has just fitted one as he mulled his big ring on Hagg farm descent (Ladybower) if the majority of your riding in the peaks/rocky stuff they are worth it, I’ve been riding with one on the ‘big bike’ for years. IMO a big ring is only required for racing or your doing a fair bit of road.

Suits SS really well due to lack of any real hillage and much mudage
