I bought a Ridley Crossbow last year and did quite a few races on it during the winter. Really happy with it and not felt the need to change anything, even tyres(!).

Bought it from Sam @ Sett Valley Cycles who did me a good deal and ace service:- http://www.settvalleycycles.co.uk/

Nightmare! How about Chinley? Guess train fare to Sheffield would come down slightly? Obviously raise yours though. 🙄
I really like living in New Mills, just needs a couple of decent pubs and it would be perfect.

    Weather update anyone?
As its been so dry recently I'm thinking all this rain will just run off the hard-packed earth and evaporate 🙄

Actually don't think there will be any mud at all, keep those semi-slicks on!

You may be based on the other side of the country, but if you live around the Manchester area I can recommend The Fireplace in New Mills – they installed our woodburner and did an excellent job – do all the building work too and are a HETAS registered company

The guy who won it was part of Switzerland's army bicycle brigade and used to pedaling around 50lb singlespeed bikes everyday 🙄

    Extract from BBC article here:-

    Rigorous training

Only the fittest of the fit get into the cycling regiment. Recruits face a rigourous training regime which includes a 200km forced pedal march starting at two in the morning.

The bikes weigh 25 kilos without luggage and at least twice that fully-laden with equipment including anti-tank weapons.

But Lieutentant Tobias Zuercher says the tough conditions make for a great fighting spirit.

    Julian Voeffray
"They come to the cyclists' regiment because it is something very special," he says.

"You can be proud of it and when you tell your family or your friends, it is something very special."

I completed it in 11.5 hours.

I didn't do much specific training but had done quite a few events/races during the year (the longest off road ride I'd done up-to then was approx 90k).

Oddly it wasn't actually as hard I was expecting it to be – I found the 3 Peaks CX race a few weeks later more physically demanding?!

It was ace though, I will be back next year in an attempt to do a sub 10 hour.

will be back next year. bound to do better than yesterday…
this happened at 2 miles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hx6RpdfOj4

Marty – I've had the same thing happen to me with a deore freehub.

I was using an XT hub, also SS for the race and that happening crossed my mind when I heard odd cracking/creaking noises coming from the hub about 50 miles in – I then thought, nah XT freehubs wouldn't fail like that! 🙄

I have a rear mudguard that I might fit. I suppose there's no reason to not fit it, is there?

Yes, the fashion please will lock you up 🙄
