Don’t worry chaps sure this Grim UK thing is just a blip.

I really can’t see the point in doing this to trainers which are not expensive more than 50% cost for a substandard product (Vibram).

The point could be that repairing them instead of throwing away and buying another pair is better for the planet?

I think it’s a real piss take that they don’t make the resole material available but brag about one model made if recycled sea plastic. Talk about green washing.

    Totally agree.

I have a pair of Five-Ten Ascents which are super comfy and the upper is still in great condition but the rubber sole is worn out. Instead of chucking them out, I’m going to send them here:

    Thanks for the replies

If you have a permanent live then it should be pretty simple to add a switch. A bathroom is one of the few places where stricter electrical regulations apply. These are different for the different parts of the UK and it will impact on where a switch can go.

I live in Spain and have no idea what the regulations are here I’ll look it up.

So they expect it to have a switched feed, or are you missing an advance in tech since your last cabinet and it’s automated on opening the door?

I think expecting a switched feed the current cabinet is from the 80’s by the looks of it. The new one without integrated light was purchased was from Ikea (should have bought one with an integrated one in retrospect perhaps changing it would be the least hassle.

@doug_basqueMTB.com totally agree if everyone else is staying indoors it’s only fair to do the same in the cities

Here’s an article from El Pais – fines or even prison:

I’m in Spain and there was a couple of stories on the news last night of the police stopping cyclists and runners.

Defo not socially acceptable here either to be out on the bike for leisure – people are posting pics on Twitter of runners / cyclists etc.

I’m in Galicia (Northern Spain) and all shops/bars/restaurants are closed throughout the region except for supermarkets/shops selling food/tobacco and pharmacies

    Who knew?

SUVs were the second largest contributor to the increase in global carbon emissions from 2010 to 2018

Kevin Anderson who is a Professor of Energy and Climate Change at the University of Manchester gives an honest assessment of where he thinks we’re at and what we need to do – worth a watch and sharing:

    Watch here:

    Keypoints:

    • Legacy of not caring about the next generation
    • Governments are deluding themselves (being ‘creative’ with the emissions reduction numbers – look far better than they actually are)
    • Governments relying on tech solutions that don’t exist yet (carbon capture/negative emissions) to make their figures work
    • We know what we need to do to reduce impacts (we are just not doing it)
    • Greenwashing – business as usual can continue with some green tweaks – this is what we are being sold by the establishment
    • All wealthy parts of the world only have 9 years at current emissions left, if we want to stick to Paris commitment.
    • UK would need to reduce it’s emissions by 70 – 80% by 2030 to stay below 1.5 degrees
    • 50% of global carbon dioxide emissions come from 10% of the global population
    • Fundamental change in lifestyle of the to 10% – 20% is required (No more large houses, holiday homes, prestige cars, first class flights, fewer consumer goods).

About 5-6 years ago, I was out riding with dot from here and he’d cobbled together a singlespeed. At the first notable hill he shot up it, leaving me and the rest for dust. When we eventually got to the top he was hunched over trying not to be sick and looked awful. I thought wow!- look what a singlespeed can do and look what it does to you. I was intrigued, so cobbled one together myself.

@yak I rode the very same climb on a singlespeed this afternoon, did it a bit quicker than 6 years ago but still felt like puking at the top 🙂

[*]Second year, felt easier – rode geared bike but mostly due to being dry![/*]
[*]Last year was bloody ‘orrible due to ‘moist’ conditions got a big gash in tyre sidewall in last 10 miles so a DNF (geared)[/*]

[*]Plan on doing it again this year (singlespeed) [/*][/list]

You could of course do it on the Alpine but why make it more difficult for yourself?

Yes, best course of the series imo. Witnessed a few crashes high speed crashes though would have been super-treacherous if it had been wet.
