Yep, all valid points. It is the wrong time of year to be selling on. I havent approached eBay yet, mainly because of the prices and you have to get the description bang on for fear of someone pulling you up for that tiny scratch you forgot to mention.

How much would you guys value a medium mk1 Nomad frame, Thomson post, seat collar, external BB and Fox Float Kashima CTD shock for? Very good condition, new bearings, has been resprayed (which I know is contraversial for some people) and looks really tidy. I have it up for £600 OVNO posted or £400 without shock.

Unfortunately I reckon it will take a good few months. Its a choice, 2-3 months off the bike or a lifetime of possible uncomfort. Cross trainer will probably be ok as long as you lean on your elbows! :?

I broke it when I was a teenager after getting in a drunken argument and punching a metal bin…. anyway, it looked like I had half a tennis ball under my skin, it was that swollen. Girlfriend at the time was a training nurse and her exact words were “you havent broken it”

I ignored her and went to A&E and it was a broken scaphoid. I was told that the scaphoid is a horrible break because it gets little oxygenated blood and takes ages to recover. I continued working and driving on mine but took it easy. I was in plaster a total of 3 months and as infuriatingly annoying it was I am glad because I have had NO issues since. Upon research it seems people dont give it enough time to heal and have all kinds of problems. They then get it operated on which generally makes the problem worse.

I went out to Morzine DHing in the alps for 2 weeks just a week after my cast came off and had no problems with it bar being a bit weak in that arm for a little while. I get no pain, no clicking, no disformity or strength issue. It doesnt ache with long days riding and I put that down to just letting it take its time.

I encourage you to keep the cast on longer, I am no doctor and I can only go from my own experience but I think 4 weeks isnt long enough. Im sure others will agree.

Im waiting for nothing new. I am waiting for my medium Nomad to sell and then a large aluminum mk2 Nomad with a 1.5″ headtube to come up for sale! They are so rare as a frame only for the last few months but there was loads in the winter months!

On the same plate, I doubt its going to take me 18 months to find one!

Hmmmm, seems like I will be readvertising the frame pretty soon! Im glad Im not the only one thinking I should future proof myself against changes in ‘standards’ of biking. Changes are progress but my pockets are not deep enough!

Well I can pick up some 36s or more than likely, Lyriks. I was hoping the frame would last me a decent few years hence why I wanted to get that right. Foxs range of high end forks and I suspect Rockshoxs as well are going to start only coming in a tapered steerer as thats just how things go.

Ive been into biking for years but have ‘fallen off’ the passion a little and was hoping this would rekindle it a bit. I realised just doing DH was too easy, I miss the uphills and ride to’s aswell.

That is was I’m inclined to do as well. Everyone is going tapered steerers, if I ever decide to change my fork I wont be able to. I dont suspect the frame to be ragged and I dont know the history to either fork or frame (thats the risk of second hand) but the forks literally look like new with a tiny bit of cable rub in one place.

Something fuel related has been replaced recently. The main pump is in the tank isnt it? With a injection pump on the left side of the engine? I think its the fuel injection pump thats been replaced before I bought it. Cheers for the replies guys, all helpful. Craig, easy job to check injectors?

Well, normally Id be tearing my hair out however the warranty Ive got with the car for 6 months is pretty comprehensive and covers the master, slave, clutch, flywheel and various ancillary parts. I only bought it on Sunday so its covered and isnt down to wear and tear already…

Thanks for the advice gents, very helpful as always.

What I meant is people ‘overclock’ their processors to make them faster, just like computers. Of course, the manufacturers set the processor speeds at just the right balance, but people want to fiddle. I hope you dont continue to have problems buddy!

Same as Dirtbiker100 said, easiest way. You will pay more but if you get something solid and reliable that you ride a few times over here, well, its better the devil you know than the devil you dont. Heres a pic taken in 2008 just outside the Pleney uplift of a Kona that was bought for a Morzine bike shop for the equiv of £3000…owner said he bought it that day, hit a drainage ditch a little hard and bounced off the bike at speed as it went bouncing down the track. When he walked to it and picked it up he didnt notice straight away, until he got on it and realised it didnt feel quite right!

Its not the apps and settings that cause problems with handsets unless you are rooting it and cranking up the processor power. I work in a large multinational mobile phone shop and find that the Desire is one of the most reliable handsets we sell. People often come back complaining of the battery life but its not limited to that handset. If you are careful with the apps you buy and get, theres no reason it should go wrong and you’ve just been unlucky. Have you always made sure its up to date software wise? (2.2 and recently 2.2.1)

My dads got a 55 plate Astra estate thats done over 120k. Not bad to drive but interior is cheap and plasticky and I found the seats hard and uncomfortable. Hes gt the 1.7 TDi and its fine but being a common rail diesel its like a tractor in traffic and dosent like creeping along. Fine for his motorway commute as hes used to it but I wouldnt like it for long distances.

The previous shape seems more comfy in the interior and seats were much better.

Its definately going to be a manual for the type of journeys Ill be doing. At the moment I have a Megane Coupe 1.6 16v petrol with a hatch opening and to get my bike in I have to take off the bars, both wheels and both pedals. If I could just take the wheels off Id be a happy man! If I look at keeping it Ill get a tow bar for a bike rack that way.

Shadthebad, interestingly one of the first thing you notice of the modified cars for sale is HID or Angel Eye conversions on the lights.

There lots of things like handbrake that I need to research, like do the seats in the rear go flat with the boot or are they raised (mine currently just fold down making it more impractical to put anything long in the boot) Can you access the bulbs easily for example or is it difficult to get your hand in there? Is the clutch generally high on these cars as well? I drove a Polo with the same breed of PD engine when my GF looked into them and I was impressed but the clutch was very high and the accelerator very heavy. I have a feeling it was some bad adjustment on the clutch but that could be the way VW make them as I havent driven one yet.

Good to see a guy actually saying he wants a job and not relying on the joke of his EMA. I along with 90% of my mates had to get a job at 16 to pay for everything we wanted and as much as they say there isnt any jobs they just have to look above or think about it for iniative. There always will be exceptions such as teens that look after an ill relative for example.

Cleaner? Ask your next door neighbours if at the weekend you can help them with the cleaning for a tenner a session. A bit of hoovering, dusting or ironing for an hour or two isnt hard work. Also, my mate used to weed gardens/prune bushes and trees/cut the grass of his next door neighbours. Thats not rocket science but can require a bit of research to save you killing someones plant!

Ill be honest and say the battery life in mine is a little pants. But, for what I want its perfect. Call quality is good, even at one bar Ive found. Reception is an issue for me, but it is a network issue rather than phone problem (Orange send the signal out on a set frequency that dosent like old houses or thick walls, same with T-mobile) The phone surfs the net very well, esp with WiFi.

Worst thing is its too reliant on I-tunes, has limited personalisation compared to Google Android, cannot transfer photos taken on the phone to computer without a paid for app, cant back up contacts to sim card, has rubbish battery life and everyone around you goes 'look at you with your Iphone'. Ill forgive all this to have the best quality music player on the market (out of a phone) by a long shot. Some people hate it until they play with one, and until they play with one they dont realise its actually a smart way to work, but people dont like change. As we are the underdogs being British, we often prefer to head with the less popular brands. Surprisingly though I think Nokia have the largest worldwide market share, followed by RIM (Blackberry) and Apple/Google Android following up but it changes so much dependant on the website you read.

CountZero, to be picky its the Iphone 4. 4G dosent technically exist in the UK yet and the Iphone 4 only runs off 3G signal. I think Switzerland has the first full 4G network but its only a matter of time til we get it. It basically will offer faster and more secure internet, making things like mobile banking and augmented reality a sure thing.

Sounds a bit pants, sorry to hear that. They seem to have alot of power, and I have heard of many stories of this kind of thing coming back to bite people in the bum. I was also caught by a similar act.

I used to be with Alliance and Leicester until I got a student account. A&L account went to the side and I rarely used it, just kept £10-20 for the odd occasion I might need some petrol or something similar and couldnt afford it on the overdraft.

I went to use the card one day and was told I couldnt. I went to them, and they told me the account had been stopped but I had to ring them up. So, I ring them up and manage to eventually get through. They had stopped it as they thought there was a potential for fraud! I had to ring another number, which I duly did. As for almost 40 mins I gave up. I tryed several other times but never got through and got caught up in my last year of uni. fast forward to 5 months later and I get a letter for £480 in unpaid fees from a debt collector due to this account!! Apparently I was overdrawn on the account when they shut it down, however they failed to tell me this. Due to my parents moving house in that 5 months, they couldnt get hold of me. It wasent hard for the debt collectors to find me though!

Communication is the key with banks, and never not ask questions. If I could prove what they told me Id have fought it. I sincerely hope you get your money back.

I will admit that I have seen Shill bidding before and can admit to helping friends out in the past with it. It is a very common, but when you consider what else happens in the world its a small part of breaking the law. Anyone ever sped? Anyone found a fiver and kept it rather than handing it in to the police? Anyone pee'd in some woods on a ride? Shock horror, you are breaking the law!

What seems to me that is more important is the fact he did it on everything. He cant say he did it on every item as he realised after he had listed every auction that the price was too low? Also, I wouldnt mind paying a fiver or tenner extra on something for £50 if I thought it was worth it. If you are paying a few thousand and he bumps it up by another £500 that a bit different!

Its all in relative to what you think its worth, just like any other bidding war on Ebay. Everyone knows if you put the money and time into a decent auction you will see a decent return as people cant help themselves once bidding has happened.

Another thing to consider is what if shill bidding occurs 'to get the ball rolling'? I have for example put a fiver down on a friends auction on the first day, to get the ball rolling. I know its not right, and I wouldnt do it now, but the item was worth £100+.

As they have said, and just times the focal length of your lenses by 1.6 for any APS-C sized sensor, and by 1.3 on an APS-H sized sensor. so anything below a 5D and the 1Ds will normally be 1.6 times with the exception being the 1D series (Different to 1Ds) in which it would be 1.3 times.

Chances are you wont have a wide angle now for most digital SLR's as 28mm therefore is equivalent of roughly 45mm.

Wow, I wasent expecting such a huge list of replies. I want to say thanks, whether forums members consider its helped or not it has. I have read every reply as this is important to me.

I dont know how clear I came off in my first post but I see this as situation frustration. Im sick of my job (Yep, who isnt?) Im annoyed at living at home and having to commute in like the rest of us underpayed, under-appreciated people. People are ultimately selfish, and what may seem tiny to one person might seem a mountain to another. Fact is, I know from past experience just telling someone to man up or get on with generally dosent help. I want to sort my problems, but for the moment, I asked for advice on how to stop myself falling that little further that might just push me over the edge. To sort my problems is to get a better paid, full time job and start my life again but to start feeling a little more positive about myself and my ability I have to find a short to middle term way of coping with the frustration and anger. I dont have a drug habit, never tryed anything in my life. Same with smoking. Drinking is a rarity for me compared to 90% of young people. I mentioned the times before as they are significant to me and highlighted to me I have a problem when maybe Ive just been casually ignoring it, but I wont touch alcohol now until close to the end of April, depending on how I am feeling in myself.

My mum is a manic depressive. Late last year she spent 2 months in bed practically every day with us hiding her car keys and removing any form of medication that she could overdose on so she wouldnt drive herself off the road or drug herself. She has plenty of past problems, and has never been healthy in the illness sort of the word, even if her diet and routine is. I do believe I might be a little more exposed to it than someone like my brother who is like water off a ducks back due to what gene pool I fell into, however I am not using this as an excuse. I have had depression before, and have self harmed so I know the signs. Although this dosent follow the same traits as last time I feel myself going this way.

I dont want to seem like a moany weak self involved individual, but last night I had had enough. Who cant say they have never moaned about their day or had a bad day when they havent felt themselves? Im not looking for someone to cure me, or to give me the answers, just opinions and ideas on what people have also been through and what worked for them. Thankfully there are alot of people who want to help and have had similar, or seen similar and I am genuinely sorry if some members thought this was a waste of time. I can take a joke no problem, but I didnt mean for this thread to turn into an argument between members. I am also not going to go and take an overdose or do anything else stupid.

I had a long chat with my doctor today who recognised that I have signs of going towards being 'clinically depressed' but Im not there yet. We talked about it alot, and the use of CBT and decided it was probably best for me at this stage. Normally, exercise would be on my agenda no end as jogging, jumping on the cross trainer, doing weights or other exercises is in my normal routine but Im taking it easy due to not knowing the outcome of my wrist yet.

Again, thanks to everyone who chipped in, if seen as good or bad its all helped.

Cheers gents, all helpful. To be honest, Ive never been a massive drinker. I had 3 pints of cider over 2 hours on Paddys night, and thats when I destroyed my phone. Granted though, Sat night was a different story but its not a regular occurence. Ive never been a big drinker, and normally have been the one to look after others.

It is a sad shame it happened, but surely they'd have tryed everything? pulling the key card out or locking on the handbrake whilst braking or pulling out all the fuses, or even trying to force the accelerator up by hand. If theres enough time to dial 911 and have at least tens seconds on the phone one of those would have been on my mind, but then they might have been trying them too.

The original Pen was a bit of a dissapointment. Looks good, and has all the arty-farty filters that could be done with normal filters or photoshop filters built in aswell as a keen celeb to sell it but I think Ill stick to my Canon…

What made me laugh about the description of the EPL1 is that they assume people who will buy it are scared or normal DSLRs. Truth is alot of these will go to fashionistas, trendies and art students to sit on the shelf next to their Diana's or their Holga's. And it dosent teach you much about learning to compose or line things up by eye.

LX3 if you dont mind noisy low light shots but want a cracking lens and excellent colour rendition.

S90 if you want a 'safe' compact that isnt spectacular except for noise control.

g11 if you want Dslr quality pics from 80% of occasions, and flexibility that other compacts havent got.

S20 and SX1 arnt compact really!

P6000 has got some sciving reviews, and is a bit of a grandad compared to other cameras.

Pen and GF1 arnt compacts either. They look pretty, but if you are going to spend that much on a system with a removeable lens, Id pay a little extra and carry the SLR in a proper bag…

F200 isnt bad but isnt a pro-compact still.

Id definately keep the Ricoh/G11/S90/LX3 in mind. Thats my personal opinion coming from what Ive seen, used and tested instore with most of the above.

From my experience of playing around with the LX3 instore when we had it, it didnt seem to cope well in low light whatsoever, whereas the Canon S90 is pretty good. I prefer the workings and picture quality of the LX3, but realistically noise is much harder to get rid of than a bit of sharpening or boosting saturation.

Sony WX1. Bit more zoom than the LX3 and performs surprisingly well at ISO 1600! Dynamic range optimizer, a very good sharp F2.4 24mm lens, ISO up to 3200, good panoramic stitch mode and very quick.

Both taken straight from the camera, no modifying. Its done a pretty good job considering the conditions!

£100 wont get you alot, but if you can stretch to £110ish, the Fuji F60FD is a great little camera. Alternatively, most of the Canon Ixus range are worth a look up from the Ixus 80 upwards.
