So those stand ones take MTB controls, not road?
ah, my bad, didn’t read the part about MTB controls. Too busy trying to get the shameless olug in….

Are people doing that? MTB controls on drop bars? Shifters on the flats?

I’d give my left plum for a flared drop bar that I could mount mtb hydro levers on (s/Speed, so no shifters).

The Pacenti’s look good, buy the SL25 is disc only by the look of it, so the 23 is the only option.

My out of warranty road frame has cracked at the HT/DT junction. Lynskey quoted $150 for repair. Wasn’t really worth it with shipping costs factored in. Been riding it for a year as a commuter and I haven’t died yet.

Fox sell their version of shaft clamp jaws.

Otherwise drills some holes in some wood and split it down its length.

    Great work on the lamap.

Reminds me a little of this one:

Think it’s fair to assume they’re forged out-of-house? It’s kind of passed over on the video and that’s proper money…

I thought they were forged in Europe at the same place that does their hub shells.

Would have been cool to see them make 2 piece hollow arms like SiSL’s, but maybe C’dale have that locked down with patents.

We have a 3D scanner at work. Resolution is largely a funtion of how many scan cycles you go through and meshes the surfaces together. It’s a relatively inexpensive machine in terms of metrology equipment, and the scanning process is automated for the most part.
There are limits in terms of surface finish (doesn’t like shiney surfaces), and depth of holes/pockets that it can scan into.

    3D scan >> Solidworks >> Powermill = shiney new part 😀

Been using an On-One cog for 1000’m of km, no visible wear. No damage to soft DT 240 freehub either.

Great way to save a chunk of weight on a kids bike with a typical 300+g loose ball square taper BB.

Fox did a short (155mm?) shock for bikes like the old Scalpel, but are quite rare to find.

I went to a handmade axe show a while back, and ended up placing an order for a custom geometry (aggressive head angle) axe crafted from Swedish steel by an artesian woodsman. After a couple of fitting sessions and a 9 month wait, the axe has arrived, and it’s a stunning instrument. I’m thinking of doing some lift assisted chopping in the Alps next year. I’m happy enough with small logs, but not overly confident with big log drops. I wonder if I should go on a skills course to make the most of the trip.

Maybe I need to try a bigger hammer 🙁

Thanks, but the bead blaster machine does most of the hard work 😉
The bashing block on the back wouldn’t budge on mine when I tried to move it. I don’t know if MM has tried to remove the one on his vice? I suspect that it isn’t designed to be removed/replaced, it’s simply an insert made of tougher steel than the cast body and can take more of a beating. I would have thought if it was designed to be a consumable, it would be screwed on.
By the way, jaw screws on the 75 are indeed 5/16″ BSW if anyone finds this from a google search.

The condition of the jaws on mine is pretty similar the condition of yours pre resto. They still work really well. I’d be interested to hear if you can find new ones however.

Last time I looked, which was more than twenty years ago they were really expensive, £60 or thereabouts.

Sorry, I meant to say the jaw screws were damaged during removal. The jaws themselves are fine. Just need to figure out what size the screws are, possibly something like 5/16″ Whitworth.

Thought I’d resurrect this thread with my No.75 refurb.
Purchased in pretty poor cosmetic condition, although seemed to work fine (sellers photo):

I wire brushed the handle/screw assembly and bead blasted the body:

Three coats of Hammerite later. These cast steel vices were red to differentiate them from the standard cast iron ones, and were guaranteed unbreakable. Realised too late I shouldn’t have painted the top of the anvil and areas around the jaws. Jaws are just aluminium ones I made up while I source new replacements for the originals that were damaged during removal. Record No.1 for size comparison (3″ jaws).

1×11 Sram setup on my Spesh Enduro and its annoying and always problems with it, its only 4 months old and the jockey wheel bearings has already seized up !!

Are Sram jockey wheels still shyte? I got sick of rebuilding them constantly through every winter and returned to Shimano.

A friend bought a Lazer P’nut for his son last week, very nice helmet and adjustment system. There’s a MIPS version, too. We use a Cratoni Rapper that works well and is light. Those skate style ones are often very heavy.

Running offset bushings (made by me) with a CCDB on a horst link frame. Quite happy with the mod. The CCDB sits deeper in its travel than the Float, and the bushes seem to accentuate this squat/low rear and slacker overall feel. Not sure if that helps at all!

Getting beaten by the best part of 20 points should be embarrassing, brave performance or not. The day Wales start accepting nothing but a victory might be the day they end 60+ years of choking against the ABs.

Mount the speakers on castors so they’re more difficult to push over? Kids might find it fun to push them around the room though 🙂

I typed a long post about Captain Flasheart’s amateur eugenics but kind of decided life is too short and scrubbed it. I don’t think anybody in NZ has referred to anybody else in those terms since Queen Victoria was on the throne. All 100% kiwis !

I think they still do the ka mate haka for home games.

Don’t worry Hels, CFH is just going off on his bi-annual tanty after a couple of sherries. You can play CFH Bingo at home:
    1) Labels NZ cheats/thugs/dirty
    2) Wraps above comment up in back handed compliment about how great NZ are at rugby (despite being cheating dirty thugs)
    3) Calls Haka silly/irrelevant/should be banned
    4) Proceeds to tell us what the Haka is about
    5) Brings up the BOD spear tackle
    6) Mentions Launceston club
    7) Questions ethnic composition of NZ team

    BINGO! Oh, and 😉
