We'll see at the end of the season who has sold most shirts, I mean, won La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League.

Very funny nickc, well it was the first time I saw it!

Specific heart rates vary from person to person, don't they? So percentages work better than numbers.

I use one of these, both on and off road and it comes with a peak. I also have a Met Parachute and a Bell which don't get used too often.

    cafe negro por favor… ?

That kind of looks Spanish, but in Madrid it's customary to ask for "cafe solo , por favor?"

Easier said than done. It's probably not an everyday occurrence that you can watch your Dad getting murdered by Liverpool supporters on Youtube etc.

Be more selective in your searches?

I agree with ton, after all this time and with all this unhealthy hatred, perhaps it's time to deal with it.

A compatriot of Lance Armstrong questions the ability of Contador just when the Tour is about to finish!!!

Lemond and Armstrong are not even on speaking terms. Lemond has openly accused Armstrong of doping.

    Spoilsport, can't I start my own rumours…. :D

Yayyyyyyy! Let's get the rumours started. I'd rather wait for some evidence.
A compatriot of Lance Armstrong questions the ability of Contador just when the Tour is about to finish!!!

I admire Contador's dignity and professionalism in not answering.
In my experience, Contador is a very genuine guy.

I haven't seen the TV interview btw.

Colour matching to the exact shade would probably be better than using a colour code, especially if the car is old and there is any fading.

Halfords or local motor factor will match up to the existing body work and should be just about pefect.

Cervelo have been running silly shaped chainrings all season. Give it a year or so and we will be again probably.

Sastre was using the Rotor rings last year. They have a stand at most races in Madrid, well the factory is just down the road. I know a local racer who user them. Quite a few people have been using on MTBs, by all accounts the first model had some problems.

Hats off to Lance, a good show.
Hats off to Bradley a better show.

There's a reason they're tourist central – it's where all the bits most tourists would want to see are… For a weekend break the price difference isn't going to be that much.

I completely agree, but I think the bars and restaurants are overpriced and crap, I would much prefer to spend in Plaza Oriente where the restaurants are not cheap and the food is good.

Price guide might be a good idea. What type of accommodation are you looking for just a cheap room or a more decent hotel.

Places to avoid, Puerto del Sol and Plaza Mayor….. sorry Mackem, but they are just tourist central. Expensive and not good quality if I remember.

Better areas for visiting are further up C/Fuencarral, head towards Plaza Dos de Mayo/ Chueca (yes, it's the gay area, but also quite interesting)/ get around Malasaña. Anything near Plaza de España/Plaza Oriente should be a bit quieter a are still very central.
Have a look here, search for nightlife, then find a hotel far away!!!

Somewhere quite to stay??? Ha ha, this is Madrid. There is nowhere. When I visited, I stayed in a place near to Atocha station, not too bad pricewise.

When are you coming? July and August will leave you in a relatively quiet city as everyone is on holiday!!!

I get the feeling that it's just fodder for the press. Alberto is the future and Lance is the past. I think there is enough publicity for Lance and Livestrong. Just looking at Lance's calendar tells me that he's not so serious when he says he is going for the win, or rather, what he says and what he realistically can do are not the same. Didn't he used to focus his whole year on the tour, this year he's put in a fair few races. Not quite the same training regime as the younger, fitter Lance.

Secondly, Alberto is the future, if Astana give the win to Lance, I would be looking for another team.

    Vamos Alberto!!

I think if I were you I'd be speaking to a camera shop.
You don't say what type of detail you want, if you want good sharp pictures then budget for a good lens/es and then see what camera you can get- second hand from a reputable shop should see your budget go further on both camera and lens.

    Another from Dirty Harry:

[Harry Callahan has to explain why he shot a man]
Harry Callahan: Well, when an adult male is chasing a female with intent to commit rape, I shoot the bastard. That's my policy.
The Mayor: Intent? How did you establish that?
Harry Callahan: When a naked man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher's knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross!
    [walks out of the room]
The Mayor: He's got a point.

How can warranty be void if raced. Its sold as a race frame!

Thats why I think crash replacement offered.

    Shuld have bought carbon…

Check your warranty… The Orbea marketing says the Alma is designed for racing, Absalon races one, yet the warranty doesn’t cover it in the event of accident when racing… (But I guess Absalon won’t have these problems!!)

Regarding the OP, I think I’d need a better photo before advising whether it’s rideable or not!

I don’t know about Kona, but I’ve got an Orbea Alma with a lifetime warranty. So far, so good, but they stipulate that the frame is NOT covered if it breaks while being raced.

I haven’t read the whole thread so maybe have missed something, but I would guess that it might be the same with Kona. You race, you invalidate the warranty. Next time take the number off!

Too hot? You can find many restaurants that offer Sunday roasts for the more adventurous traveller, for example:

    Pino Golf de Don Carlos
    18 Elviria, Marbella 29600
    Elviria
    Telephone +34 952 838 604
British Cuisine Photo : Browns restaurant
    Open 7 Days a week
    9.00AM – 12.00 Midnight (kitchen closes at 10.00pm)
If you prefer the traditional cuisine of England then Browns is the place.
How to find Browns? Take the exit for Elvira from the N340 then you will find Pinogolf commercial centre, Browns is behind Opencor.

Daily: English dishes, full English breakfast, Jacket potatoes with filling of your choice, freshly made sandwiches & baguettes, children’s menu and choice of draught beers including Guiness, Cider, Heineken and San Miguel.
Every Sunday traditional family roast dinner.

    Hello don Simon/old git,

I was out there with the xcracer.com/29ers. Good photos of the event btw. That along with 24/12 at Newnham was one of the best 24hr/any races I’ve ever done. What did you think of those downhills?!

It was superbly organised and the weather was el scorcho! I’d love to go back next year.

    Matt Lewis

Congrats for the podium Matt, EnBici has a very strong team, Borja Chivato is the Champion of Madrid and was fighting for two other championships, but I think there was a conflict of dates with the 24doce and he couldn’t race in the other championships!! the two Diegos are regular podium finishers at master 30 and sub 23, Jose Manuel who did their final lap and brought in the flag is hitting a bit of form and is well suited to the faster non technical courses.

I liked the circuit, I did a couple of laps with No27 on Thursday, I imagine the final downhill ramp before entering the field must have been a blast at night, and the drop through the trees was wicked, hands off the brakes and hammer it through the final bit!!

Matt, do you think you could drop me and email at info@simoncarter.es, I’d like to ask you a couple questions, cheers. Hope to see you next year.

Great I could’n open the 24doce yesterday ta.

Just spent the last couple of days taking photos at this year’s event, photos here[/url] taken on Saturday. The course is very rideable, quite a few siinglespeeders. There was a team from the UK on 29ers who did quite well, results. For me it has to be one of the best organised races that I’ve attended, I didn’t see any chaos at the shower, toilet and bikewash area. No rain must a bonus too.
Race is only about half an hour from the airport too.

The race is over, so it might be worth giving the site another go.

Hope to see you next year.

Over here, there are spot checks where the police (guardia civil) have the opportunity to ensure all documents are in order thus avoiding decades of driving without licence, insurance etc. Also the sh1tter of 16 months for a bit of stray paint and 22 months for killing someone.
