I aked the same question a couple of weeks ago. AVG was fine until the latest version was downloaded, this, as has been said above, ground my computer to a halt. I am now a happy user of Avast.

Because it stops them fighting over who wears the red jumper. This also applies to toys – even though the cars are exactly the same, they will both want the blue one.

    Never thought about that, thanks.

Ahh, but do you KNOW that they never swapped places for a night?

    My thought too.

Interesting discovery while visiting my other half's parents recently. Twins run in her family.

I went to school with unidentical twin boys who had identical twin sisters who were exaclty 1 or maybe a couple of years younger, I can't remember. All four had birthdays on the same day. 8O

Hmmmmm! That was adifficult one, I couldn't actually decide between AVG and Avast so I finally took attractivefish's advice and bought a Mac. Free AV or €1500 on a Mac, no contest.

I'm giving Avast a go, if this doesn't work out I'll try Avast.

    Thanks folks.

    Thanks for the replies.
So it's not the first time then.
It's coming to Spain so will take a bit longer than for you guys.

No need to start worrying yet then… :D

let me get this straight as it's not so clear in the article.

It's a five year project not five weeks, correct?

And, Trembling believes that it didn't work out for Sol and if that's so it's better for him to go, correct again?

Had the Campag stuff on for about ten/eleven years before the frame broke. The bike was ridden regularly too, say an average of 100km per week!

there is a lot to be said for understanding the rules before you break them.

better not to know lest they burrow into your subconscious

I'm quite sure, Simon, that if you look at your better photos you'll find that they fall into the rules. You just have an ability to find them naturally rather than think about it. :D

Quite a lot of teaching work in Madrid, but I'd suggest spending a few days here pounding the streets and talking directly to people. It might be a bit late now as most courses have started. It's all a bit of a cattle market at the beginning of the year, if you're available you'll get work.

I don't know much about the more attractive areas of Spain though. Good luck.

tragically1969- they're compatible with tubeless. Mavic crosstrail which were running Python tubeless before, maybe they'll have to go back on for the short term. :(

oldgit- I got the first set from a shop in Madrid, LTMRacing and the second set from one of the German interweb shops. I agree they are/were awesome. I liked the way a new set gripped in the sand, you could carry your speed through corners with full confidence…

Do you know the weight of the Racing Ralphs?

just back from a quick blast, coming down the final descent, nice and fast. When I got to the steep bit, guess what? Front end all over the place…….. Another fuggin' flat. :(

When youre armwarmers arrive, you have to wear them around the house singing Goldfinger in a Shirley Bassey stylee.
    We've all done it.

    We have?????

    julianwilson – Member

loud last-season's (ie cheaper) roadie bib shorts as undershorts, oh yes. Especially when you wear them under downhill shorts with body armour and a full face helm.

I'd look a right twunt in all that gear on my lean mean racing machine! Lycra for me.

    Junkyard – Member

I dont get leg and arm warmers.
I find if it is cold I wear long sleeved tops and full length trousers.

But sometimes it starts cold and you warm up needing to shed a layer, but not needing to take off a jacket. I guess indoors there isn't such a temp change so no need for flexibility. I suppose you do put a coat on when you go outside though…

Or whack the aperture right up, get a really slow shutter speed and press the button some time before the subject arrives. As he passes the frame in the desired position, manually flash.
Or just get a decent flash.

To the OP, Pick your position carefully. Cyclists riding up a hill will generally be going slow enough to focus on. Cyclists going into a bend on a muddy tarck should be going slow enough tho focus. Cyclists, generally, just before beginning a drop will be going slow enough to focus. A cylist going full pelt on dry, flat tarmac will be difficult focus.

I don't know about the D50, but both my EOS10d and EOS20d are very slow focussing cameras.

Get out there and give it a go.

Using flash head on to a cyclist in a race cant be a great idea

Assuming the race is during daylight hours, I don't see a problem with using a flash.

Hairychested – used to live in Hampton. Can't believe you have not mentioned Monafs!

Munge-Chick – used to live in Buckingham – you have Bicester Village there I guess.

Druid – used to live in Balerno – in the 70s the best thing was that bouncy thing inside a big plastic dome like in that Rolling Stones video – but there seems to be a big secondary school now built where the park was.

Onzadog – heh – was at Uni at Nottingham – some locals there are quite special (well one of them anyway)

Ton – used to live in Leeds – there's loads of great things about Leeds – great night life away from the big obvious places.

Raceface – used to live in Chapmanslade not too far from Devizes – at least you have lots of pretty crop circles around you, the aliens must be digging some bits

Jambo – not good news – am about to move to Devon! If you bump into me out on the trails say hi!

As for Dumfries where I am right now – well simply tons of both natural riding plus the Stanes which are all weather and can be ridden in all this rain no probs.

Worst – well maybe there is quite a drug problem, and the town seems to be dying right now with one heck of a lot of shop closures, but hey, I've lived all over the place and it's not that bad a place at all to live really. Maybe the worst is that in 2005 I tried to look for work here but there was absolutely nothing for me.

If I may ask a personal question, are you on the run, Simon?

    Me, Sierra Norte de Madrid.

Best: 300+ days of sunshine and dry riding, great riding and few people.
Worst: erm? erm? Sometimes it rains/snows…

Rowing is ace. Generally a good crowd of people. Did my time at the working class Grosvenor RC rather than the more high brow Royal Chester.

Just been looking at some property sites. You can get a lot for eur500 pcm.

    Not in Madrid!!
The riding outside Madrid is fine, but without transport it can be a PITA:

For what you're planning, I would listen to the guys above. Somewhere further south would be good Granada, Sevilla etc.

Have you thought about Barcelona and access to the Pyrenees?

    @ cinnamon_girl

I'm about 183cms and mine's also a medium and I don't have any problems. It is easy enough to throw around at that size. The fact I prefer riding my Orbea Alma is not a reflection on the Pipedream.

Please ignore this bit of useful advice. It's a royal pain in the arse for those of us who drive on the wrong side and get dazzled by Brits who know better!

I imagine the AA or RAC would be useful for this type of info.

Alonso should be banned at the very least, he could have easily killed another driver or even a marshal or spectators….Just look at Surtees a few days before.

    From the BBC:

They also determined that "being aware of this, Renault failed to take any action to prevent the car from leaving the pit lane… and failed to inform the driver of this problem or to advise him to take appropriate action given the circumstances, even though the driver contacted the team by radio believing he had a puncture."

Not liking someone isn't good enough to ban them! Alonso didn't know so why should he suffer on behalf of the team. Hope he wins on home soil.

Ok, ethics level 2: What about if I'm doing a race but I've got a bit of the Paula Radcliffe and I've stopped mid-ride for a poo in the bushes, and someone takes my picture mid-cable and sells it for huge sums of cash to a 'specialist' website? I mean, it's a real risk – I've got a great arse. What then? What would you say to that, Mr Photografter Man? Hm? You dirty, filthy pervert.

That in my opinion would be unethical. I took a picture of a rider in a ciclocross race, who had led the race from start to final curve. On the final curve the front washed out and off he fell. Very emotional for the rider, high level of public embarassment and a picture which was very relevant to the story of the day. Out of respect for the rider, I asked him if it was ok to use the image on certain websites. He said it was fine, and the image was published. If he had refused, I would not have used it. Simple!

Common sense I think it's called.

    Also Ti29er, +1.

I don't see what's unethical either. But the cost side is surely just basic marketing. if the product is good and the price is good then you'll pay for it if you want it. If the product is crap and/or the price is too high, you don't buy. Not difficult really!

Just out of interest, what do you do for a living?

It's not clear if you're talking about pros, semi pros or passers by!

We worried about this at the Big Bike Bash. The result was we had photographers who would take the picture, get it developed at the event and donate all money to charity.

Come along and see how it works.

And everyone else is donating their profits to charity too? caterers? printers? hire shops? and any other outside service you are going to use at the Big Bike Bash!!

Fair enough but about 3 months ago I sent them 2 emails (No reply after a week…) asking about stock and got a reply several weeks later. I immediately replied with a question about prices, colours etc and have heard sod all since then.

If they deign to contact me again I'll probably buy one but I'm certainly not going to bother my arse trying to contact someone who clearly has better things to do than deal with customers.

I'm also still waiting to hear from Si at brodie bikes ref a Cruzado Ti frame for a HT build which I asked for a month ago and which I'll be building next month (Don't bother yourself now Si, I've sized up something else cheers) and On-One didn't bother replying to my question about a problem ordering/paying over the web for a SS build which I wanted last month but again – it's ok now as I ended up buying something from someone else.

(Oh, I wanted the SS build to try the On-One geometry before buying a 456 Ti for the afore-mentioned Ti HT so thats probably 2 bike builds lost – good work on the emails fellas!)

And you haven't got the message yet????

On-one were a bit slow replying to me, 3 weeks in total, slow enough that I bought elsewhere.
Pipedream were the opposite and they got my business, but I suppose all companies will have positive and negative feedback….

 (for above comment incase you think I'm being serious)

    donsimon
    Free Member

Unfortunately Pipedream is shoddy at best when it comes to communicating with potential punters so trying to find out how much 50% actually is, what colours are available and other things a buyer might want to know is difficult to say the least.

Have to disagree, my dealings with Pipedream were excellent, e-mails sent on a Sunday!! Questions answered directly etc. So much so that if I ever get round to but a FS, I would seriously look a Pipedream again.

Sirius is worth a try…Go for it!
