Erm I am not so sure everything is ok, had many lights from them and have been happy but my rear city slicker one has stopped working I suspect the battery, but the lense has cracked as well.

Contacted them and was told to buy another light!, not what I expected.

Its the monte carlo version and has not been type approved, went to my local tow bar place to get and quote and was very miffed when he showed me the towing weight sticker that said nothing by it.

He said some places would fit one but it would be illegal and could void insurance etc.

Have since looked into it more and he is right, gutted.

    Standard fabias can have towbars!

Yeah car based ones, must be petrol as in the week used for short journeys  if at all and we have had trouble with diesels in the past, also worried about future tax etc.

Hi Wiggles, how have you found them lots of horror storys about bits breaking etc on the internet?.
You run them standard or lipos battery etc?.
I am hoping it will be reliable and fast enough standard.

Thule have said that while a 598 with a carbon frame protector should be ok on most bikes they say to ask manufacturer and will not be liable for damage caused by using the rack.
If you ask the manufacturers will say no its not safe!.
The new upride will be there flagship rack and its being sold as carbon safe.

Im sure a 598 would be fine but my carbon road bike cost me a fortune so thought i would ask.

Hi thought this might be of interest to some people, have contacted thule and giant and the advise is bascally do not clamp carbon frames,or if you do we will not be liable.

Thule are bringing out a new roof rack in march which looks ideal and just clamps the front wheel and rear wheel.
    Oh its called the upride.

    Hi Bez

I am in the same boat as you, do not want to spend loads just want something he can play about on, not sure why the hate for mafiabikes but the mafia madmain looks good for the money 179 pounds in the black out sale.
Love to be able to find a really good one for this sort of money but they all look battered.

    @bullandbladder

I think we both know the answer to this. :D

Everyone have a good ride and be safe.

Oh and sign up your interest for 2018 velo Birmingham on the site.
Let’s keep this going and hopefully little by little attitudes will change towards cyclists.

Some of the NIMBYS in Belbroughton are planning a protest with anti-velo banners. Sorry on behalf of the rest of the village. We don’t all feel this way,.

I live very close to this and have not heard about it but have had lots of people moaning at me about the velo.
I have not been very polite the last few days sick of people moaning about it.
Then I tell them I have raised inbetween 800 and 900 quid for charity and I get told oh well do the ride elsewhere.

I should add I am really looking forward to it I know what pace I could set but just want to enjoy the day and the closed roads, training has gone well with a few 80 mile days under my belt so should be fine I think

I am in and trust me the climb is not that bad maybe after 85 miles it might be!.
Ribble are helping out on the climb with some surprise things not sure what these are.
I am of at 8.00 and riding for charity should anyone wish to give a few quid towards Birmingham hospital cancer patients.

Hi all thanks for the replies my boiler at home has packed up so the new bike idea has had to be put off for the time being, still fancy a carbon bike but keep telling myself train the body first!.

    Thanks for the replies,

The bike will only be a summer bike so the discs are not that important and I am not sure if I am being marketed into a carbon bike and discs to be honest.

TIRed have looked at tcr but was worried I would not get same riding geometry etc as the defy and I still want the comfort that my bike gives me.

Propel had not even entered my thoughts!

David thanks for that and I agree with your comments and your right all out performance is not the be all and end all my racing days came to an end a while ago :(

This is not to say that if I continue to progress the way I am with training and seeing continued big leaps forward that I will not want to race again.
This might be next year if things go to plan but if they do the defy will be moved on to make way for a dream bike but that is another story and thread.

I was just told that the shimano ultegra 6800 or campag zondas would not be worth upgrading from the standard giant pr2 wheels that I am using at the moment.

Hi thanks for the feedback, they will be going on a giant defy alloy frame, so not sure if this is considered stiff?.

Thanks I thought zondas might be the better option, have just seen the shimano 6800 on ribble with two gp4 season tyres and tubes for 320 so thought this might be a better deal?.

    Hi all,

Thought I would post a quick update to anyone who cares to know how its going.

I went for a bike fit which has been awesome and I have started cycling to and from work and also getting some rides in after work which is going well, due to family commitments the long rides will start this weekend, which I am looking forward to because the night time rides are getting faster and slightly longer.

Thanks for all the comments :D

Thought I would update this and my other thread, thanks to all who have donated offline and I am now up to just over £500 pounds which is great and I hope to keep the donations coming in.

    Thanks ed and phil.

With reference to the diet, I have stopped drinking in the week this week which I am going to carry on, was never a big drinker but one or two real ales soon add up, just going to have a couple on a weekend.

I really could not give up all together, as for the rest of the diet I have been eating breakfast every day this week, something I have not done for many many years this has stopped me eating my lunch by 11 am and then looking at getting something else for dinner  , and have also cut down on crisps and chocolate bars, one each a day instead of comfort eating!.

I know what needs to be done deep down and its just will power at the end of the day, as for eating while riding I am not so sure about this but will practice over the next few months, when I raced many years ago this was something I struggled with but time and products have changed.

Hi just managed to catch up with this thread and thanks for all you comments something to be thinking about.

I am really looking forward to it and the just riding my bike again without injury or illness, have commuted to work 3 days this week and are going to fit in a long ride maybe two over my days off, even started looking into clubs again, love riding on my own but miss the banter and social side of a club, I have become a lone wolf with no riding buddies

Just hope there is a group at my speed so we can all ride together :D
