Aye, that was me. Sorry I’m not very talkative with people I’ve not met before. It’s a bit cosy for four in the back of the landy

You’ll have to book via the website, though there sometimes is space but I wouldn’t bank on it.
Interesting the comments regarding helmets, I was riding golfie yesterday then popped over in the afternoon for a single uplift (on the off chance, there was a no show so space available). Stopped off at the car on the way to swap to my ff lid. It’s a mental thing I think, cos its ‘downhill’….

Yorkycsl, is that the descent that hugs the road for a bit then veers down towards the woods just south of grange? We parked near the slate mine and did that on an earlier visit along with a push up and ride back down of rosthwaite watendlath. both a real blast downhill! Harry’s done the Bb before but I havent.
Still new to lakes riding, so still plenty to find, only other one I’ve done is skiddaw via the steep scree. Didn’t do ullock though, mistakenly took the route down Dodd wood hoping to find some loam but only found fire roads

I’ll answer for Harry as we were riding together.
We ended up doing the 4 passes going up from honister slate quarry, over and down warnscale, scarth gap, up and over to black sail hostel, up over black sail pass, up great gable then sty head to stockley bridge, then back to seatoller and back up to the quarry where we parked.

There was a LOT of hiking up hill, some good descents, by the end of it I was knackered, and we just caught the last half hour of daylight by the time the bikes were packed up. The weather held off which was a bonus, only one flat and luckily this time Harry brought a spare rear mech!

Been looking a lot lately for this type of bike on a budget
Just bought a white Sussex from edinburgh cycles
Not strictly cx, has 28c tyres but should take 35? Sora gears, hydro discs, 510 quid, will do for me

That link… sweaty Lycra clad men sweating and in pain! Not for me, I’m not bothered about speed particularly, I’m bumbling about on a twenty year old chro-mo frame! Just after a bit more comfort on the off road bits 🙂

    Thanks
7mm was the tightest, there was plenty space around all other points . I’ll give it a go 🙂

There was an earlier thread where someone posted a link to the tenn sports ones for £17.99
I gave them a punt and must say well impressed. Looked a bit ‘nylon-y’ until covered in mud, but it ain’t a catwalk and they live in the garage unwashed until each ride

It would be early mornings or later afternoons so as not to impact on the sight seeing. 36 degrees would be hell like!

    When is important

    It’s July, plenty of sun!

I think we’ll be using train as a lot of places (such as cinque terre) don’t have car access?
I’d be a fool to be so close to finale and not get to ride there I think! 2&1/2 hrs from airport though, although I’m used to being chauffeur on holiday

Ok, just what I need to hear 🙂
I guess the riding is as good as it looks?

I doubt it, he’s on the other side of our semi so not joined directly.
He’s not letting on, he used to be a local mp so maybe she used to direct all complaints there

full time job for the mrs = happy mrs + more bike junk

She works part time-trade off is less house work for me! 😆

In response to cinnamon girl. When I knocked at the door I did approach it thinking “what if it was my mother”
I’m not tackling her again, my other neighbour says he’s been on the receiving end before, and numerous others in the street apparently

Thanks, haha the wire cutters thing did go through my head . I keep telling the missus one good winter will finish her off

As for environmental health-hopefully her folks will be up for Christmas so I’ll tackle them, as politely as I can. But keeping a diary is a good call

Look into a second hand Chromag frame. I’ve had a few and I’ve never found anything else so nice to ride.

I’ve just picked up a 2nd hand stylus, fitted up with a marzocchi 55 and some bits I had lying around. First ride impressions are good, quite comfy, reckon it’ll take on anything I can throw at it
Negatives-it’s a bit heavy (tho it could have a lighter build kit) and the price new is ridiculous!

To echo what mega says when you point it downwards. It is very, very good. So much so that I got rid of my dh bike soon after 😆

I’ve got the comp (green one) and very happy with climbing, a lot of the time I’ll leave the monarch open-especially for techy climbs as it grips great. On long drags I’ll flick it into trail mode. Use this setting as well on the flatter smoother trails (think hamsterley transmission/gt spooky wood?) but even when fully open it responds well when you stamp on the pedals
Don’t have a problem with a wandering front end/160 forks/short stem but most bikes I’ve had have been slack

I can’t say for the rune but I have the green capra comp and it is very, very good. Not just on spec for the price but in actual use. Comparing to a 2010 sx trail or a 2013 norco sight 650b it descends and climbs better than both (although the norco was a great bike let down by cheap dampers) In fact it goes downhill so good I’ve sold my dh bike.
Only thing I would say is I would have got the cheapest one (2×10 transmission) if it wasn’t sold out when I ordered, 200 quid plus when I need a new 11spd cassette is hard to stomach!

I see bike tart have the rune frame for 1399, looks very nice and you could probably build one up for a similar price to the yt if you prefer aluminium.

I did the blind bearings with expanding bolts from jewsons. The type that are used for fixing into concrete. Don’t get the brass coloured, get the silver ones with thin walls. Pop in the hole half way and tighten up, the end will flare and create a lip behind bearing. Then press or drift out as usual 😉
You’ll need to cut lip off after each use but you’ll get three goes out of one…and they’re a quid each.
