Thing is, i would have thought it would take a long time for 3 cupfuls to dry out…its weird though how a perfect ball has formed…would have expected stringy stuff as you mention neninja.

Maybe my shed has turned into a sauna with what little sun we have had…. maybe it could be also to do with the thin rubber and surface area of the large hans damf tyres. Must admit, i had the fluid in 6 months + on my spesh “captain” tyres and you could hear the comforting sloshing sound.

will just need to check for the slosh more frequently i guess!

Nope – never used Co2 thingy on it. They are big tyres (2.35 Hans Damfs)…..never had this issue before! I am wondering if it was a bad batch (unlikely though as i suspect the QC is quite good at the factory). Also never been nearer a heater just kept in my shed subject to good old british weather (ie cold crap and rain).

I am at a bit of a loss! i have kept the ball of latex as a souvenir and have emailed stans to see what they say! it does bounce well … like one of those super bouncy balls that you probably had when you were a kid.

Thanks all :) some good stuff to focus my shopping tomorrow. Agree with the comments about second wheelset ….really wish I had not sold my stock rims now :( sure changing tyres in a bit of a faf but with my pump up fence spray ghetto compressor tyres pop up in an instant. Will have to suffer the changes.

Paul – thanks for the offer – may well pm you if I get some time spare! In Bracknell so not too far away.

    Yes the cables need tidying
    Yes that is a mudguard
Yes those are pikes running 130mm on a camber (works bloody well)
    Yes those are bar ends
Yes I commute to work on this :)

And I love this bike :)

How much play would you say you have in the post Neil? I too am very interested to hear about other people’s post play (snigger)….cannot be arsed to send mine back for the fourth time.

Must be lots of reverbs out there now! If anyone has a reverb, would you be so kind as to give it a wiggle forward and back and side to side…..any noticeable movement?

    Thanks :)

Agree with that mate. I bought the 2011 version just when it came out with the plastic hose end….this inevitably snapped off so I bought the new metal clip, the 2012 version fixed this issue. Then about 3 months later, the post lost pressure…supposed to hold 250psi but would only hold about 100. Sent back to SRAM, and they replaced internals for me. Came back…all good….apart from the play which I am pretty sure was not there when I bought it. Now this may have been to do with the replacement internals but who knows. Anyway, back to SRAM again to investigate the play. As I said, prob about 1mm side to side and 1mm forward and back. You can see the flex in the rubber dust shield a tiny bit as you move the post. Post worked fine and air pressure held at 250psi. They sent it back to me saying no fault found and a tiny bit of play is necessary for the post to work. I am a chartered engineer so know all about tolerancing issues etc so can agree with them to a point. What seems weird is the inconsistency between different posts. I have physically seen some with absolutely zero play, and seen some a lot worse than mine.

I don’t really think SRAM were ready to release the post when they did – the R&D was not complete and they used us as the consumer as the test subjects….at 250 a pop back in 2011, this is not really on!

The 2013 version is better so I am told but to be honest when mine dies I will dump it and stick with my quick release.

Mine has been back twice. There is about 1mm side to side play and again about 1 mm rock forward and back. Cannot really notice it on the saddle. SRAM say nothing wrong and a tiny bit of play has to be present by design. There are 3 brass keys that hold the seat tube into the lower tube so I am thinking these may just be a tiny bit undersize causing the play. I have ridden 250 ish miles so far and play is no worse so I think I will just accept this is standard. Have read other forums where 1-2mm play is considered normal after a bit of use but fresh out the box many people say there is no play present. As much as I low my uppy down post I am not sure I would trust another reverb.

To be honest the music was not so much the problem. I guess at 32 I was 17 years to old for some of the so called artists! I actually thought the music was ok – I like muse, elbow, kaisers and even quite partial to a bit of take that and the spice girls (waits for flaming). What I could not stand was the production and “B” movie feel to the whole thing with pointless montages and mashups. Some of it was really cringe worthy. I guess we were spoiled with the opening ceremony – that had me going wtf but by the end of it I was actually enjoying it. I think people are going to be massively split with opinions.

+1 to giantbiker! The kiwi’s are great :) I bought a few pairs and wear over padded shorts…very light, quick drying and more importantly dirt cheap!

Thanks :) the camber is an absolutely brilliant bike ….very light and responsive. I got the 2011 expert with decent end of year discount and so glad I did. Was looking at similar spec bikes ghost amr, trek fuel, canyon etc etc and test rode loads. The camber was easily the best for me….I was (and am still not) interested in wagon wheels for the kind of riding I do. I prefer fast xc chuckable stuff which the bike is perfectly suited to. I think spesh stiffened up the frame a little in the 2012 version…..I do suffer a bit of frame flex under really heavy load.

The geo is really good and it climbs so so well (using platform on rear shock) never really feel the need to lock it out. I am saving up to replace the triad at some point with maybe the new float CTD factory (or maybe rp23 if I can find the right tune).

Yeah you are right – mine do look different from the retail versions but seem to have all the same features. At least my triad is a standard size unlike the old spesh sizing weirdness.

    Cheers :)

Yeah just got in myself :) deerstalker and axle run followed by strickler, seagul and back round to corkscrew. All seemed to be running nicely at the mo but some areas look to have taken a beating with the shit weather we have been having. So lucky to have swinley on my doorstep (live just behind coral reef)…..about the only thing good about Bracknell !

After all the problems my mates have had with their Hope brakes ….no thanks!

Just out of interest for those with xt’s, do you too up the resevoir all the way to the top of the threaded fill port?

Cheers guys :) they seem fine so will just ignore and enjoy.

    doncorleoni

Hi – yeah they work fine :) just seemed to happen after I put a bit more oil in resevoir. I did not think the resevoir is pressurised anyway (???), when pulling level you can see oil rise and fall in the bleed screw port (assuming piston displacing fluid). Just weird that 4 very new xt brake levers all bought from different suppliers have this issue.

If you put your ear close to lever you can Hear oil “squishing” through what I presume is the top cap diaphram seal.

Mikey – could you explain a little more about your bleeding technique :) not quite got the orientation clear in my head from what you describe….do you rotate brake lever so it’s parallel with ground? By cap and seal I assume you are referring to older shimanos – the new ones have just a bleed screw….no cap and seal as such.

    Cheers mate

Ashima SOS worked really well for me. They are a mixture of organic AND sintered friction material. Great for the mixed weather we have now! (great in wet and dry). Seem to wear very well too – much better than the standard avid organics. Tried superstar pads but they were poop (but very cheap).

Not the cheapest but if you get from Germany (action sports de or rose etc) they pretty good! Around £10 a set.

When my elixir 5’s work – they are fine. Good stopping power and modulation. Fairly easy to bleed with kit. But…….. The bladders are made from Gorgonzola and split real easily. Had my front go 3 months into warranty (with bike), rear started to go last year and again replaced. And now the brand new warranty replacement on rear has yet again split and oil is weeping out of reach adjust.

Got fed up with them and replaced with shimano xt’s. Power wise they are a bit better but nothing major. As I said, perfectly happy with the performance of avids but in my experience they are not very reliable. Would I ever buy another avid brake???? – NO.
