Martin – chain was replaced pretty much same time as the cassette – well within say two weeks (or 200 miles for me)…I commute to work 22 miles a day on my full sus camber ! Crazy but it’s a bloody good workout :)

Xt rear cassette, xt deraileur, yes – slx chain rings….

Feel your pain Hilton …maybe I will just turn my music up and lie with it until it gets
    Worse or something breaks.

Martin yeah my first though was the chain …it was a brand new chain sourced from ze Germans (not that that has anything to do with it!) so kind of dismissed this. I have never washed the chain in anything – just a wipe down with a rag and re-lube.

Was soaked in 30w engine oil – fairly thin for motor oil but may not be thin enough to get in guts of chain.

Could well be a stiff link or maybe the powerlink??? I have had the chain off say x5 times with the same power link …..thinking about it – could it be this???

Bloody annoying Hilton isn’t it !!! I will make sure I keep a close eye on the chainrings tomorow then! However, the noise/grumbling is present on all 3 chain rings :( its unlikely they have all worn the same…thus again points to something In my rear end (should think before I type sometimes) ha

Not sure Dave :) to be honest! I will keep a close eye on it tomorrow now you mention it. No chance of shadows though!

Will check the b screw again…and check alignment again for my own sanity.

Oh – actually, just remembered….it is a kmc chain…I remember some shimano chains are directional….I think the kmc can be run in any orientation but can anyone confirm that?

Maybe it’s time for a belt driven single speed !

Dave h – could be related to chain rings – they are the oldest part of the drivetrain. No noticeable wear though and no probs with shifting or chain suck/lifting….

    Thanks :)

Waderider – pulley set at 5mm spacing (from lowest gear) as per the setup guide.

Pinkster – yeah good point and I don’t really know…it feels like the grumbling is coming from rear derailer but I guess the frame could be carrying the vibration from anywhere! Spinning wheel in drop outs with chain off throws up nothing. Plenty of clearance on pads and my pencil and masking tape dial gauge says my rim is as true as it can be.

The camber frame – sorry never mentioned what bike it is! Is known to have a flexy rear end :) and chain does jump of the highest gear when chain crossed and I slam the power down.

Oh and thanks :) Keep the suggestions coming! I don’t want to admit defeat in this one :)

Guys – nope it’s not that :( wish it was to be honest! See a few posts above (I-ache)

Al – no not yet – good idea though will try that tomorrow

Ha! Yeah been there done that! Was the first thing I checked :)

    Jockey wheels spin fine.

Does seem to be worse when I go through a big puddle or muddy bit….maybe that points to something?

I am stumped – everything looks fine and is fine when turning cranks over in the stand. It seems to be load related, happens in lower 5/6 gears. Does feel like a stiff link or cage rub but I am 99% sure its not.

don’t really want to start swapping stuff over but I guess this may be my only option to eliminate possibilities. Or just turn up my music and ignore (easier said than Done as I am sure you lot appreciate)

New hanger has not fixed the issue – alignment looks spot on. Thanks though for the reply!

Haaaaa :) you bugger!!!! Will bring my tyre back and you can try doing it with that if you like ;)

Yes – I did mention to my wife that she must know the difference between a tool and a tyre – this is the reason why I am drinking my tea in the shed and cannot gain access to MY house.

    Maybe a couple I quid….think tyre is £19 quid ish (-20%)

not worth the hassle of reselling and posting …and I wanted my tool so I could tinker this eve :(

Edit – just ordered xtr one from rose for £22 all In! Bloomin good price from
    Rose as usual.

Cheers guys :) its grinding and there is a bit of play when I wiggle cranks (bolts tight)….it’s been in there since new and has had a lot of abuse!

Thinking about sticking in an xt one for 21.99 on chain reaction ….unless anyone can suggest a really good alternative! I use the bike for commuting (22 miles a day) so don’t fancy replacing too often! Don’t mind spending a bit more if it’s worth it

Cheers Nobby … Dug out a pic – yeah definitely hollow through one side, only one crank bolts off, and the other side has a plastic cap with star shaped drive in. So I think I am clear now! Thanks for all your help guys

Thanks all :) Signal pretty rubbish here at work but wifi good ;) makes a change from messy gardens or long cable comments he he.

I am pretty sure the bolts are only on one side and no bolts on other but will have to double check! Thanks for linky Jonathan – yeah that looks like what I have.

Will take some pics later ! I contacted spesh customer service and they had no idea what was fitted.

Not the biggest tank (180l) but currently mine looks like this :

    doncorleoni

Yeah it does really well actually. It has a spoiler that extends it another 3 inches or so (not fitted in pic). It has some rubber strap / bolt fittings that attach to seatstay…bloomin strong fixings. The only thing I would say is that they will struggle to fit large diameter seatstays….I could just about slide the mounts down to give me around 10mm clearance between wheel and underside of guard.

    Better link to pic :

Yeah Rob its much lower now…almost following the wheel profile. This was the only pic I had on my phone :)

I use a zefal no mud …about £12 squids from cyclestore. Looks a little bit industrial but works brilliantly…mounts to seatstay so is well out the way and if you have a full sus moves with travel. It keeps all the crap off my reverb dropper post too :)

I think it is just to validate your identity. Not had a problem with it personally – if you have an issue with it…just don’t use it!!!

Experian and equifax are much more detailed anyway so suggest those are better :)

    doncorleoni

Remember the time limit thing is bollocks …it is easier to claim for loans that have ended in last 6 years but not impossible for loans 6,7,8, 10 years +! I know of someone who claimed for a loan ending in 2001. The 6 month thing relates to an active loan! You could for example have taken a loan out in 1995…so long as it was still active (ie being paid back) in 2006 you will have a claim.

    doncorleoni

Yeah do it! You can try this free credit report site first :

    https://www.noddle.co.uk/

But experian and equifax go deeper. They will have details of closed loans / credit agreements. Remember even if the original bank has been sold / dissolved / destroyed etc then you can still claim. For example egg ppi credit card stuff being handled by barclaycard and loans by Canada square ….all the info is on google. Takes a bit of time but it’s really not that hard to do! I found it quite fun actually :)

Everything you need to know is here :

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

Basically get a free credit report from experian etc (join up and cancel within 30 days)
Then call up / send letter to bank asking for details
If they don’t provide them send a SAR letter and £10 (basically a letter asking them to give you every single piece of info they hold (data protection laws etc). The £10 covers costs.
Then once you have this, use the info to fill in the standard template You find here :
    http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/technical_notes/ppi/PPI-consumer-questionnaire.doc

    Then wait …..
This is all the claims basta&5s do anyway and take a big cut. I have absolutely zero legal / financial background and have successfully claimed £870 from barclaycard, £280 from virgin and just had claim approved for £987 from egg! Do it!!!! If you need any help PM me :)

    Good luck

Yeah it does seem to work fine so you are prob right that it’s a normal thing. Guess I am just worrying as had a bad stans fluid (or lack of) failure during my commute a few weeks ago! (not helped by forgetting my pump 3 miles into swinley which I am still recovering from).

Belugabob – it’s a cuprinol (sp?) fence sprayer, I just unscrewed the head – the bit with the spray nozzle in. The hole at the end of the lance is a tight fit on the valve at first but you can run a small screwdriver down it to tease it out. Literally just pop this onto the valve (with valve core removed)….pump up the pressure vessel, and when you ready, pull the lever on the lance and watch your tyre pop up.

Seriously – for £12 it’s a very useful tool! Pumps tyres up and you can use to wash your bike after a ride (keep mine in the car sometimes).

Until I discovered this, I too struggled with tubeless and dont have the pennies or space for a compressor.

Unfortunately G.Mick this place is full of fecktards (clearly demonstrated by SOME of the replies to this thread) so I would advise you to take the advice from the helpful genuine posts on here and seek professional help.

You prob don’t want to listen to me though as I have an Xbox too (but am 32 not 14) What was I saying about fecktards…..Right back to call of duty. Good luck anyway mate.

Pretty much all positive reviews on here (and elsewhere). Lots of high power lights out there ranging from sweet and sour mass produced cheapies to made in uk custom specials. I assume you are asking about the luminator…..I ordered mine today and mtb batteries have sent to me for delivery tomorrow. I based my choice on the reviews read on here, the beams shots which look ace, the video on YouTube, value for money….and most importantly….the owner is an active member of the forum and from what I have read, seems to offer great warranty and backup support (hoping I never have to find out though!).

Will be taking light out on maiden voyage tomorrow which I am very much looking forward to.

Do a search on here for reviews etc

Hi – you prob just got a text from me Smudge :) Asking about availability. Sent a few emails this week (via website). No worries …you are clearly a busy chap :) desperately trying to get a replacement for my commuting lights that have died for Monday…..is next day delivery possible (tomorrow?). Reply direct if you feel that’s more appropriate.

    Cheers :)

2013 – 90% chance of working out the box
    2012 – 60%
    2011 – 20%

As far as I am aware the visual differences happened between 2011 and 2012 (black collar vs silver, metal hose barb instead of plastic). Chatting to a SRAM tech a few internal changes were made in the 2013 version but did not go into details.

My 2011 has been back to SRAM x3 times now. The 2012s are much more reliable but still have problems and the 2013s I am not sure about.
