Cars are bigger than tents so it takes more of your body heat to warm them up?

    Celia,

The least unreliable weather in Scotland is late May/early June.
Whilst you can get lovely spells of weather in October the chances are much better in the late spring and early summer. I’d recommend postponing your trip until the following spring.

    rainfall

    winds

    sunshine

In terms or routes. I’d suggest a cost to coast (west to east). There are plenty of options that google will throw up and some on here will help out too.

Not sure of the roads that would be best to use to get to Grantown from Inverness – maybe head to Forres and then over the Dava?

No – go over the Dava towards Nairn, then after Ferness take the minor-roads towards Culloden.

StB – The Braemar Lodge is a good stop for cyclists. We stayed there last year on a “Tours des Cairngorms”. The food is good and they have a washing machine and drying room you can use.

Why would anyone be embarrassed about “The Big Blue”. It’s a classic.

Now “Love Actually”, a film so sugary that you could stand a teaspoon up in it. If you were to admit to liking that then that would be embarrassing. No way would a cynical middle aged engineer like that.

    No way.

I think we should do what Australia do-swear an Oath to the U.K

What? People visiting here from a foreign country?

    Negotiate.

What I’d do is ring up the people who’ve offered you a job, tell them exactly what the situation is, tell them that you are happy to take the job on 1-week’s notice but at the rate they are offering you aren’t prepared to make a six month commitment. Suggest they look elsewhere, increase the rate or reduce their expectations about how long you will commit to them.

Going to the Britannia / ocean terminal is one heck of a long way round. Sherrifhall is much better idea IMO

But the OP wants to go to the Britannia!

Driving in and out of Leith at start and end of day is pretty tricky at the moment due to extensive roadworks though. I’d avoid it if I were you.

It’s fine going east. I do it every day.

Get to the ring road and turn right.

Turn left on to the A1 and then drive in to Leith. Park at Brittania and then use buses all day. The 22 takes you from Brittania to the city centre.

does anyone live in a house with sloping ceilings

    Yup

do they ever bang their heads on them

Yup – used to when we first moved in

do you just adjust to them being there?

Yup – and then you get to laugh at your visitors hitting their heads.

The only problem with bedrooms built into the eaves is finding enough space for wardrobes.

I would suggest that you can afford a lawyer.

If everything is as represented here then you will have an incontestable case for unfair dismissal and will receive a decent compensation package (or your job back plus legal expenses).

I’d suggest you find an employment lawyer who is technology-aware.

If everything is as represented here then I think you have an excellent case.

Did they give you a formal “grounds for dismissal”?

Nothing to worry about. You’ll be in and out in a few minutes but you may have a couple of stitches.

They’ll send the tissue to the lab for tests so you can expect a follow up appointment to discuss the results.

Must be all that expensive moisturising cream you use :-)

Get a second-hand one? Used road bikes are good value and have usually had a quieter life than mountain bikes. You won’t need to spend a grand to get a very capable second hand road bike.

“Okay, I think this will probably take a weekly session for the the next year to sort it”

“That’ll be £35 for today. See you next week for another £35…”

Yes there’s a tendency for that to happen. But Dentists do the same thing. It doesn’t mean that there is no merit in their treatment.

The “why” is easily answered. Culling seals is legal.

I think it’s the “how” that is controversial.
