We still have a reciprocal health care arrangement with the EU. I would get insurance for a ski/climb/mountain bike holiday in Europe but I wouldn’t bother for an ordinary sightseeing or cycle touring trip.

I think that “generally accepted as a good thing” is still quite a high bar to aim for. In the real world there are always drawbacks to any course of action.

The popular thing to do seemed to be rafting/kayaking down the river through the town combined with drinking beer. Looked fun on a sunny day.
