Mine was doing the same. I checked the air pressure and it was very low. Topped it up to 250PSI and all good (for) now.

I had to store my bike with the seatpost compressed. Not sure if that would cause any issues.

e13 xcx works well. I am using the ISCG 05 version with a BB adaptor and the allignment is perfect with a 50mm chainline. Very sold and not much more than the BB version.

The Thomson is a great stem. I really like the 70mm version. Currently using the Raceface turbine 60mm stem which is up there in terms of built quality and looks. The fact that I could get a 60mm version with a some sort of rise was the deciding factor.

I think that all stems around that price mark are going to be pretty solid and it really comes down to length, rise and aesthetics.

If you can find a set of raceface turbine cranks second hand, they would be ideal as they have a removable granny ring spider. The newer raceface cranks a much less faff and easier to set up.

Running saint shifter and zee short cage mech on the trail bike. Works great. The saint shifter is very nice. I think it has quite a different feel to the XT shifter I had before which felt pretty light. While I would not notice the difference of a shifter on the DH bike as there are too many other things to think about, it makes a bigger difference on the trail bike.

I used a 34 up front with a 11-32 at the back when going 9 speed. At times I wished for another low gear. Now running 34/36-11 and it made a nice difference. When changing the fron ring I may go 32 as I only ever spin out on the road, and would find a lower gear a little more useful, even if it was used only every once in a while. There may also be a little more ground clearance, but that is not such an issue with a hardtail.

I always ran normal NN at about 30PSI and that was as low as I could go. The casing was thin so they still gave pretty good grip at that. I now use UST RQs and find that I need to run them at around 20-25PSI. The thicker the casing, the less PSI as the casing will give the tyre support. I would go as low as possible without the tyre squirming and moving around.

Vondally, I have a pair of the Haglofs approach shoes. They are great for their intended use. However, I think 5:10s are much much better for the bike. The design of the 5:10 sole suits flats better. I would use a pair of cheap skate shoes ahead of them.

And that makes it reasonable, fair and just? The law is an ass.

One individual is jailed and deported, a British citizen is possibly left without their husband, and a British child is possibly left without their father. All for a public nuisance offence. How can that be considered reasonable, fair or just?

I have sold about ten items over the last week or so. All went within a day, except one item which I have just sold. They have all been well priced, in good condition, photos included, and I have been willing to haggle. As was said above, the key is to be reasonable and flexible with the pricing. It does also help to time your post well so that it is on the front page during peak hours.

This is all you really need …

On a more serious note, when your partner feels it is the right time to do it.

General marking schemes should be available. They are usually in the student guides or module guides. If not, ask school office for one. There will usually be a more specific one for each piece of course work but that will not be available. You should have a clear enough idea from the general marking scheme.

May I ask what degree your partner is completing. Is there a possibility that the question/task was just not answered correctly (even if a lot of work was put into it)?

Did the lecturer give reasons for the grade re:how the work fitted in to the marking scheme? If the mark is in the system there may be no way for the lecturer to change the grade at this stage and you may need to go through the formal appeals procedure.

Did you find out if the paper was second marked?

Course work is usually moderated or second marked. This may only happen to a small sample in the middle (and those that fail or get firsts). I would go to the lecturer first. Ask if it has been second marked. If not, ask for a second reading and clarification on the grade and reasons for it. You should have a clearer idea at this stage. This informal stage is pretty important, and it may be the case that there was some issue with the course work itself. However, mistakes and oversights do happen given the time constraints on getting grades back to students. If after this stage you are still not happy, follow the formal procedure. From experience, it will be objective and fair.

Also, it is worth noting that if this grade is the difference between a first and a 2.1, and is out of place in relation to their other marks, they may still be awarded a first at the exam boards.

I have used the meteor for climbing quite a bit and really like it. It is very light which does make a difference. From memory, the hard shell helmets deal better with multiple impacts which may be important where there is the possibility of rock fall and no quick way to retreat. For that reason, I use a hard shell helmet for multi-pitching. This is probably being overly precautious, but does make sense.

The seller did not send the item until after they received payment. I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect that they would not refund until after they received the goods.

The fact that paypal was used seems to negate any argument of trust (unless there was no other way of payment). It is not something which is needed if there is trust.

Without a doubt, the best online retailer for both price and service. I have yet to have a bad experience with them.

^^^ + 1. The Optimo podcasts are also super. The How to Kill the DJ comp is one of the best I have heard. Well worth checking out.

The shockworld service sets also have a great mix of stuff.

Great. Thats for the advice Loco. New forks received yesterday so will be giving the seals, lowers and foam rings a little love before they go on the bike.

Thanks Loco. While you are here Loco, I remember you saying somewhere that you can put 8ml of oil in the lowers of the Revs instead of the 5ml which it states in the manual. Can you do the same for the Sid RCT3?

I have lost count of how many bad patches I have hit during the Ph.D. They come and they go, just like in any job. The end of the first year is hard. It is like Tuesday. You have just had to go through a hard Monday, and Friday seems so far away.

I know is sounds trite, but set your milestones, be they daily, weekly or monthly. Complete those, and things will come together. It is also very important to not let it take over your life. Tasks will fill whatever time you give to them.

There is no need to be isolated when doing a Ph.D: meet your supervisor a little and often, even if they just tell you that you are on the right track; present at conferences; organise a workshop for the Ph.D community in your department or school. Research is collaborative.

Given how long they have lasted, I have enough spares in the tool box to keep me going for the next decade or so.

If you can’t use full lenght outers, then I would spend a little more to get the gore ride-on set. I have used the transil ones as well. While they work well, the gore set works that little bit better. They have been on my bike for the guts of two years now and I have only had to adjust the indexing when I replaced a rear mech. The cost, when spread over the life time of the product, is very little in the grand scheme of things. Why spend £££ on nice shifters and a good mech and let the whole system down with less good quality cables.

Patagonia capilene crew, r1 pullover and traverse jacket. I have used this system, in various combinations, for xc skiing down to -15, to mtbing during the summer heat and everything in between. All for just over £100 from the patagonia outlet store. Whilst still not cheap, it is very good value for money.

The best pump I have used so far is one of the lezyne alloy drive ones. It is very simple but works well. It has a hose which would be one thing I would require on a pump. I have used the mountain morph as well and it is also very very good.

For some balance, I called this morning and got through straight away. Ordered yesterday and dispatched this morning. They did mention they were super busy and apologised for not getting the order out yesterday evening.

If it is that you just want to go tubeless [and not that you would like new wheels;)] then the 719s would would fine. I converted a set of 717s with rim strips and they worked just as well as my current 819 UST rims. The rim strips can be bought pretty cheap and are a more convenient option than tape and valves. Maxxis tyres always worked well with sealant.

If you go for new rims, I would just sell your current set of wheels and buy a new set. It makes more sense with the cost of wheel builds and new spokes.

I also spent a long time thinking about going tubeless. However, one beautiful evening, on the best descent in my local area, I got 4 punctures. The next day I went tubeless. I have not had any punctures since (touch wood). Do it. You will not regret it.

Remember that there is only so much someone can learn from a lecture. What are the main ‘take home’ messages which you want the students to leave with. Repeat these a number of times. From experience, this is appreciated.

The two best I have had recently are the Mikkeller Czechet Pilsner and the Goller Kellerbier. Both very nice. I am a big fan of Vienna style lagers and the Thornbridge Kill Your Darlings is the best I have tried for a while.

I am on my second soul now and could not be happier. I would not say that it is a light build (Revs, 819s on pro 2s, Conti RB UST, XT etc) but is really nice to ride. The build quality of the frames is really good, great material, great customer service and up to date spec. The are expensive for a steel frame, but spread over the years of enjoyment you will get, it works out at good value. The resale price is also pretty good if you later decide to sell on.

Fitting it in is hard at first but it just becomes part of the daily routine. I was getting up at 6 rather than 6.45 which was a killer for a short period of time but your body gets used to it (and you just get to bed earlier). As fluffy as it sounds, I was the most content I had ever been. Difficult to expain, but it does more than make you flexible and strong.

It greatly improved my trad climbing as well where breathing and being able to calm your mind and body are so important.
