All sounding good. Now to find a SH frame at sensible money…

    Thanks for the replies,

To be honest, I will mostly use it at Swinley, which is a short ride from my house. I leave my trusty old VT2 in the Alps, which copes brilliantly, especially with 140 Revs. I have recently built up a lovely HT for UK duties, but found it a bit “bouncy” in places at Swinley. If I could pick up a good Trance frame and space out my 100 Rebas to 120, I could build something quite nice!

Many thanks for all your useful replies,

    Dom.

Thanks for the info and quick replies. Good news about forks as it gives me more options. Any idea on steerer tube length – 200mm plus?

    Thanks again, Dom.

Just got back from the local motorbike shop, as recommended by Reluctant (see above). The guy there was very helpful and had a go at putting a helicoil in, but it wouldn’t hold. He ended up tapping a thread in a bit deeper so there should be some purchase for a longer bolt. Just waiting for a 185mm adapter from CRC, then I’ll have a go. Don’t want to put anything in before that as I,m not sure how many attempts I’ll get. Magnesium lowers sound great, but the metal is VERY soft.

I reckon I’ll be off to my LBS later…

Cool. I had heard about helicoil but will try a longer bolt in the meantime. The bolts are for Avid Juicy 3’s, so does anyone know the thread size? (Non engineer…bit woolly on things like that!)

Brilliant. Thank you! Spacers: 2 drive side, one non-drive side? I heard a rumour that it was the other way around with giant frames, and it might have been with the XTC frame I just built up…if I could remember. Having said that, two drive side seems to be working!

    Many thanks,

I found the RF Deus bars at JeJames for £24.99 delivered, so I have ordered them. Thanks for the idea. I also found a matching stem on eBay for £22. Cool!

Coleman – the headset has been ordered after a chat with Giant. I went for an FSA Orbit integrated and followed your advice too about bearing angles of 36 and 45 degrees. Got it for £18, which I feel is a good price. Now I am after some Hope Pro 2s with Mavic XC717/719 (what’s the difference?) and some Rebas!

    Thanks again for your help,

    Dom.

Yep, it looks like that. At least I can crack on now. Still reckon it’s not the best system, however. Thanks for your help, Coleman.

    Kind regards,

I think it’s integrated (no cups to press into the frame.)

    Any thoughts?

Thanks, Jamie. I have the same problem. The SRAM website is no help.

I have now managed to get everything sorted EXCEPT for where the little l shaped spring goes.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks, James. Very useful information.

couldashouldawoulda – sorry, but I really don’t want somebody else to get the wrong end of the stick. (Like I did.) I had no intention of ‘pushing it’, but I can see why it might look like that. I’ll say no more: the subject is closed on this section of the forum. Thank you to everyone for your help.

I have now been advised that the Revs I have for sale are 130mm, not 140mm. Please see my ad. in the For Sale section.

Here’s the link to the original advert:

Remember, the Poploc mechanism is now absent.

Well, I fitted the longer forks today and went for a ride in the snowy Alps which included a couple of technical descents and ascents. The bike climbed as well as ever and felt fine, so after everything I think I’ll stick with the longer forks.

This means I have a pristine set of Revs (140mm) for sale. They are dual air and from 2010, I believe. 1 1/8 steerer cut to 185 mm. I bought them on here from a guy who had used them very little. I have used them once for a short test ride. They have Poploc, although the cable and lever have been borrowed. I paid 200 pounds but will let them go for 180 pounds posted. These would be great for an XC machine, either lightweight HT or FS. I will post photos when I get home.

ATB and thanks for everyone’s input,

    Dom.

OK. I won’t worry about the oil too much.

Is there any definitive way I can tell model?

They are not U-Turn, but as to their history, I will need to ask the sellers if they were adjusted.

    Any thoughts on the oil?

I have put 100 psi in both chambers of both forks and the stanchion lengths between the two is still not the same: there is about a 20mm difference.

As an aside, the negative chamber of the set on my bike expelled oil when I detached the shock pump.

    I still don’t know what I’ve got!

Sorry – cross posted, there. Yes, they are dual air and I will give it a go! The set on the bike are set up as per the recommended pressures for my weight, so I presume these are looking as they should.

Fair point, but they are physically not the same size. The “taller” set are 20mm taller from axle to crown, as well as having more stanchion visible.

I have a Langster from 2010 – the black, understated one. If you could pick one up in your size I reckon that wouls fit the bill perfectly.

I run some CLs on my TCR C2 with Michelin Pro Race 3s and my average speed increased on my usual routes by about 1.5 mph. I also use the bike for climbing in the Alps and the weight saving helped in this context. They are great wheels and good value for money.

I think you made a good choice. Enjoy!

OK, no joy here. I know it’s an old bike, but it seems a respected one. The other approach is to ask for the head tube length, I suppose. Any thoughts? It’s an 18.5″ frame.

Thanks for that. I’ve got my eye on some but they have a 187mm steerer and I don’t want to make an expensive mistake.

    domderbyshire

Yep, it’s 18.5″. Any ideas as I would love some Revs?

    Oops! It’s a medium, which I think is either 18 or 18.5″
