Fine on my Trance X 26er, but I did move to a RADr cage which works even better. 32NW up front, 11-40 (T-Rex) at the back. The RADr cage is worth it as it alters the geometry so that running on the extender cog is less of a strain and within normal B screw limits.

I get the worst off outside with a hose, then let it dry in the garage. After that I bring it into the kitchen when the wife is out and clean it properly. Just wipe the flood afterwards and all is well.

I like my Hope ones, even if they are expensive.

I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I’m impressed. There is no build up of black gunk, it washes off easily and does indeed appear to lubricate the drivetrain. I’ve found that it took a few applications to get things up to speed and that a gentle brushing of the cassette post ride helps. Also, I use a dropper bottle for the chain and protect the discs when I reapply as it’s very runny. All in all, it seems a great product that does everything I need it to do, i.e. one product, instead of several. Everything is left beautifully clean. I still use Fenwicks suspension lube spray on the stanchions, dropper post and shock, mind you.

Ice spikers go up tubeless a treat. Just saying.

    Even the non-pro versions?

That looks fantastic. Good work. I’m very tempted to make the trip from sunny Berkshire.

It’s much better in France. Walkers are friendly and even encouraging. The space is there for everyone to enjoy in their own way, so long as they are reasonable. It’s a breath of fresh air.

Looks ok to me as the mech is long cage and the bike a short travel machine: Anthem?

Me and a mate have both ordered. I don’t actually need one right now (he does), but I just know it’ll come in…

Shimano MW81 are working well for me. They got me through the deluge that was last winter and I have even used them in the snow in the Alps with great success. Buy a size up, however.

Size wise, I bought a large based on their size chart, but had to sell these as they were too large and buy a medium, instead.

I’ve crashed in my Glacier gloves and they survived. They are warm, totally water and wind proof and, as mentioned above, tactile. I think they are a great idea. Yes, they get clammy, but dry out well enough if turned inside out. They don’t pull out a built in liner if you remove them on the trail, either.

Bell Super has been great for me., and at £60 it’s a bargain.

Ta. I bought some Sondico studs earlier, but they don’t fit….

I ran the 26″ version last week in the Alps and they held together over clear tarmac, ice covered tarmac and the odd piste… I was impressed by them.

An Allen key on each side is the way to go. It can be quite stiff, so persevere!

Can you get MT 15s in 15mm QR front?

So you apply pre-ride and simply spray off with water afterwards, let dry and reapply?

thegreatape – thanks for that. I’ll give it a go.

carlphillips – that looks good. I recently bought some of the Scottoiler UBS stuff, but am unsure about how best to use it. What is your method? Yes, I know it has instructions on the bottle, but some real world experience would be great. Many thanks and Happy Christmas.

A similar thing nearly happened to me in the summer when I was out on my road bike. A roe doe ran out on the other side of the road to me and crossed in front at a safe distance, such that I saw it, did not need to adjust my speed and could admire a beautiful animal close up. However it then ran along the ditch/hedge line on my side of the road looking to get into the field. Unfortunately, it could not, and so decided to cut back across the road close in front of me. It was one of those situations where you resign yourself to the fact that you are going to crash and start wondering how much it’s going to hurt. I slammed on my (non disc) brakes and somehow avoided the deer. I did skid and flat spot the rear tyre, though. It was exciting.

Pugster – I followed the vid on One Up’s site and had no issues, unless you count ballsing up the spring replacement… The old inner cage comes away from the body of the mech with two 4mm allen keys, one either side. Make sure you have removed the clutch cover.

Think I’ve worked it out, so don’t worry.

Right, all sorted. Stu, you were right, I had not got the spring correctly in place. Thank you very much for your help. Now to go ride the thing and see if it was worth it over the stock Zee mech…

Yes, I watched the vid. I’ll go off and check everything over now and get back to you.

Also, with the cage fitted the chain is very slack when on the 11T cog:

Could I lose a couple of links? Here is the setup when on the 40T cog:

It all works fine on the stand, by the way.

My Zee works really well on a Trance X. Now the Radr has arrived, I hope it will be perfect!

Interesting. I run a Zee FR with 11-40 on a Trance X. I like the sound of this. I presume it’s fine with 40T, even though the blurb aims it at 42T?

I found one on eBay in immaculate condition. I built it up into an ace bike that I love. If I ever go for / can afford a 650b carbon Trance I’ll advertise it on here! I was just very kicky and found one quickly in the right size.

I’ve had this happen. I now have the tool from Hope to reseat the free hub, which goes back in after cleaning, regressing etc with a soft click. It’s good to know everything is back together correctly!

Bottom section of Alp D’Huez was exciting this summer. I tried to hit 50, but was held up by a Citroen driven by a local, having overtaken a Lexus higher up. Still good fun, though. The Garmin showed 75kph, whatever that is in old money.
